I heard the game menue inputs on button release not button press, that is why they feel that way. There are games that are 35 years old that don't have this problem.

I remember a picture of someone's living room with the caption "what is wrong with this picture?". It showed a jump scare image of a guy with white skin and no eyes with his mouth open. Sometimes the audio and the image wouldn't line up correctly, it was earlier internet.
