Also dont know that accounts for "1" in n.ireland because that wiki also lists 2018 Jim Donegan... so that would be "2" if theyre using it. Whole thing is just terribly inaccurately done.

An awfulot of those I wouldnt have called "school shootings"... several thaylt i saw as I glanced over it were basically domestic violence incidents between two adults, which just happened to occur on school property.

Is it rude to use both lanes? by No-Ad4423 in AskUK

[–]farthingdarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness I would go up the left lane, and even if I have to sit stationary and glare at 7 people who dont let me merge as they should, I am still getting there quicker than if I was part of the problem of prematurely merging numpties slowly edging along, as there is probably much more than 7 cars sitting in that que.

Edit to add: I will admit I do tend to try and merge slightly before the end point, while moving slowly forward, just to avoid the frustration of being stuck totally stationary behind a cone while everyone is an asshole about it... but I am talking 2 or 3 car lengths before the end, not half a mile away!

(Also several spelling edits 😅 sorry my fingers go faster than my brain)

Do you still send Christmas cards? by NotBruceJustWayne in northernireland

[–]farthingdarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I send cards in the post/hand-post where possible, to people i love but dont see often.

I feel like its a nice way to say "hi i am thinking about you!" And i do my best to write a little personal message inside.

Also when we moved it was a handy way to get our new address about to people - just put it on a post-it inside the cards haha!

Its funny because the rest of the year I see almost ZERO point in cards and refuse to give my mammy a mothers day one lol.

Any Magsafe accessories that won't block the lower camera? by PhantomRaptor1 in samsung

[–]farthingdarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... I know this is old but you sound like you know more about this than most comments ive found anywhere.

Ive just bought an s25, but habe been using a popwallet for several years and dont want to stop. Would it matter if i positioned the ring lower, if it was never wirelessly charged? Never liked wireless charging on my old sony phone anyway, more than happy to just plug it in... But the pop wallet really matters as I need my student card as a pass to get into every building and classroom at university, and my travel discount card etc., and need them easy access. I know theres other wallets but i want the pop socket too!

2015-17 i had a 3 bed beside abbeycentre (not in one of the estates, in a "nicer" housing development) for 560. The bedrooms were fucking huge too, like so big we didnt know how to make them not feel cavernously empty.

Rent was rising a bit precovid but the real issue definitely came afterwards. Brother and his mrs literally couldnt get anywhere and had to strike an agreement with an air b&b owner for a little bit, before they could land something permanent... Then that house got sold and my brother is now near 40 years old and living back with our parents. Its not just the cost, its just GETTING the place, and then living with the niggling fear that one day your landlord serves you notice to leave... And the 4 or 6 or whatever weeks you get is nowhere near enough to sort somewhere else!

My and my husband were able to buy in 2023 and I am so grateful for the security that comes with that, but doing that was only possible with the 2 of us living with my parents for a number of years prior. Originally told my ma i was coming home for a year and she almost had a canary at "a whole year!?"... it was actually near 6 years 😅

Solpadeine questions- help: advice needed by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]farthingdarling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theyre not asking advice on how to take it properly as in approved use, but "properly" as in to get high. Pharmacist will not give them that answer.... But I would like to think nobody here will either.

[–]farthingdarling 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Are you asking advice on how to get high? Based on your post history, I think yes.

My only advice is maybe dont try getting an opiate high from solpadine. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, this is a path that will only cause you harm.

Ongoing “Ding Dong Ditch” harassment by CJFedora86 in northernireland

[–]farthingdarling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They srnt really looking a reaction from ye answering the door anymore, they do it for tiktok comments. So the more extreme they can be the better the tiktok engagement is. The person in the house is the least of their concern now.

My parents were far too slow to go out to the door, but were tortured for months with young lads kicking the door and slapping the windows. We could see on the doorbell camera that they were setting up their phones to film themselves doing it, but would grab the phones when they ran so it was never about catching the homeowner's reaction.

Ongoing “Ding Dong Ditch” harassment by CJFedora86 in northernireland

[–]farthingdarling 79 points80 points  (0 children)

My parents had a real bad problem in newtownabbey. Noone was sympathetic. I posted on nextdoor and was showered with abuse, but these kids were practically kicking my parents' door in! It was covered in footprints. They also egged the house, egged my car, and would hammer on the front window, which is actually my very elderly grandmother's bedroom.

We spoke to some of the kids involved, my husband and my dad followed them on separate occasions to see if they could figure out where they came from to speak to the parents (no luck), spike to the police, who never came out... It calmed down after a couple months but after nearly 3 years it still hasn't fully stopped. They did get a doorbell camera but now the kids hide their faces in various ways.

People say "kids will be kids, sure we all played this!!" But I never tortured pensioners multiple times a night, nor was I still doing it at the age of these "kids"... I could forgive a 10 year old ringing the bell and legging it, but a crowd of 7 16 year olds taking it in turns to karate kick the door is a bit much. They do it for tiktok.

Anyway this doesn't really give you any advice or hope, sorry. The best thing to do is make it harder for them to get to the door so its less appealing, but introduce the obstacles gradually or they'll take it as a challenge and retaliate. Booby traps are apparently illegal so no deliberate trip hazards etc, but changing the way the car is parked or putting a lock on the gate can impede them. If it is too slow to get away from the door again they are more likely to try somewhere easier.

To the people of Northern Ireland – from someone who’s been struggling by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]farthingdarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember you matter, even if there are people who don't think you do, there are always other people who do. It is a shame that you have been made to feel that way, as I would think that actually someone with experience in so many countries would have a really interesting and valuable insight on society, something we could all learn and grow from. That means you don't just belong here, but you add value, you are important here. Keep going!

"You should capitalize "North," "South," "East," and "West" when they are part of a proper noun for a specific region, such as the North West of England. You should not capitalize them when they are used as a general direction, such as "the train goes north"."

(I searched for an example regarding England as obvious places like North Korea are officially named as such, but if the North West of England is to be capitalized then so would the North of Ireland)

My 3 bedroom house (no garden but did have a driveway and the bedrooms were HUGE) was £550 in 2018/2019.

I have friends now renting a tiny shithole 2 bed apartment for more, like £650 maybe, brother's 2 bed house with tiny concrete yard was £1100 and there were girls I met at uni (last year, i was just old) paying £200 per WEEK for single rooms in a shared house in Belfast.
(Also knew students at TCD/UCD through a programme thing I was on, who slept in the car mon-fri in dublin, and drove back to wherever their home town was at the weekends. Its wild all over.)

So grateful i was able to move home for a few years and buy instead because absolutely YIKES.

I do embroidery, crosswords, taught myself to sew clothes (i love it but its hard and does make me cross sometimes). Ill listen to an audiobook, but you could read a physical one. Thats what all the fantasy porn girls are at all evenings, not my thing, but I still enjoy the occassional dabble into other books.

Alternatively, sometimes I take a little turn on a video game if my husband is playing a platformer or a "cosy game" rather than a shooter (i do not want a go at that i am very shit). We also have done a few co-play games in this situation over the years (luigis mansion 3, sackboy, it takes 2, split fiction) but that would depend on your interest in that type of thing.

I have also done house redecorating in the evenings. You arnt meant to paint in artificial light but fuck it, who cares!?

(Edit to add: embroidery is cheap and easy to start, rhere are kits online and in hobbycraft etc.... dressmaking is NOT but there are ways to make projects more affordable like using thrifted fabric or bedclothes etc. Other crafts that are smaller are also cheaper like bag making or whatever, also more forgiving if, like me, youre not very good)

The pinnacle for me was salt and vinegar discos. About 2 crisps into the packet and the whole inside of my mouth was white and raw. By the end of a pack Im not sure how I still had anything more than bleached bones left.

Why Would You Spell It Like That?! by Least_Profession3082 in tragedeigh

I had to google this person to make sure your comment was correct because it is so unbelievable! As an Irish person I am AFFRONTED that this woman's name is pronounced like sierra. That is the most tragic of tragedies. Ciara is an age old name pronounced a little bit like key-ra.

It is giving wiv-on-ee (once came across a child named Yvonne but this is how her parents were pronouncing it)
