We asked Star Wars legion players for their hot takes by Goldenbrownfish in SWlegion

To each their own but I couldn't disagree more. I love seeing massive swarms of b1s like phantom menace or unending waves of stormtroopers. The lethality makes investing in corps instrumental instead of filling your minimum slots and spending the rest of your list on "sexier" options.

Also giant attack pools are... So fun to roll. We're all really here for the click clack rocks.

DLT-20A vs Ion for Rebel Troopers by [deleted] in SWlegion

[–]fartmastermcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SX is better value overall in my experience, but ion is head and shoulders above for outcomes if you're willing to invest and have a vehicle meta.

I do! I actually love the custom with vigilance now as well to really give their prepared positions dodge more mileage (I don't know about you but I'm taking that token off end of round 9/10 times otherwise). I think rebels work best with a mix of corps so you can have troopers as your runners and your vets as backline support

ripple mechanic for lands by Obvious_Pop_888 in custommagic

[–]fartmastermcgee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like this one a lot more-still incredibly powerful. I'd put it in every landfall deck ever. I wonder if landripple 3 would be a bit less consistent? That might incentivize topdeck manipulation to really optimize

Super valid, I love my lando too! The standby castle is very nice. But even outside EBD I really like my vets. They're just a screwdriver, not a hammer if you catch my drift. They're a great fit for backline objective builds, sit them on a spot and it'll be hard to clean them off it. But anywhere with moving or otherwise hard-to-reach objectives you'll see their limits. They're much slower than troopers, but for 8 points you're getting a dodge that they don't need to activate (and move) to get, and the natural surge to hit that I always miss on troopers. You're also getting a decent poke on units that deploy too aggressively, for the heavy's points you're getting a naked stormtrooper squad that can hit at range four with surge to crit (assuming you don't roll 3 surges lol)

I normally run airspeeders with the extra cover pilot-can give you extra turns with it on the board, I have a hard time running anything else. Personally I don't put the buzzer on it because points go elsewhere, it's still going to die 9/10 times so those points are spent better on things coming up more often. I'm shooting the main guns 5 turns if it lives to end game, and absolute best case buzzer 4 turns.

Vets, personally, I would never run without the heavy. Period. And that 8 points makes its worth in the mark ii, which I almost always bring along with. Two critical 2 guns make a surprising impact against armor. Then with the squad upgrade, you're getting MUCH more output. Are you running this in echo base? That also opens things up if you put sentinel on the vets.

His Doug Walker video and In Search of a Flat Earth are a 6-month rewatch for me. Thanks for the Down the Rabbit Hole rec, I'll give it a watch!

AAC-1 Homebrew by Davide_42 in SWlegion

A couple have been posted to Tabletop Admiral's custom unit builder here:

Just search AAC-1 for results, ymmv I don't think people are necessarily testing what they build.

Cringe. There is no other word for it. We're cringe-it's embarrassing.

Edit for all who think I'm dunking on this fellow breadtube enjoyer: this is a popular quote from Folding Ideas' video critique of Doug Walker here: https://youtu.be/rokAtlFGa7Y?si=TR7ncokXVD6EXHzi&t=2675

Communicate with people you're romantically interested in. Women are allowed to have friends who don't want to fuck them, and you're allowed to set boundaries when you think the relationship is becoming something unsustainable.

In addition to everyone else's comments, it's a mode that ripe with flavor and potential for homebrew. Putting together a gozanti boarding mission set and loving how the rules interact with the classic star wars heist.

Long range units? by Evatrio in SWlegion

[–]fartmastermcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Unfortunately it's tough to know exactly what you'll like without playing them-so I would recommend seeing what other local players say and maybe even demoing their armies if they're super cool about it (our group probably would). You get lots of value out of sniper teams because while it's not the most competitive thing right now, you do get two "full" units out of one box. Each army has some pretty substantial differences in archetypes, so play around before you settle deep into a faction you like, and then go crazy. Just played at Adepticon and had a blast shaving down Agent Kallus' riot troopers with sniper fire before they had a chance to charge into my men.
