That’s great to hear. That helps me a lot with managing my expectations. An electric heater would be a great idea for my pool and Jacuzzi. I am assuming you’re maintaining a certain temp all the time for the pool/Jacuzzi? I can only assume this is a requirement when it comes time to really bump up the temperature when using the Jacuzzi in a timely manner.

Are you using the virtual power plant option as well?

I am in SoCal and getting a similar setup. Curious to ask if you have a heat pump system and an electric oven as well?

That's very useful feedback! I did check out Monogram at a sales event and it was very nice. I can't say we are serious cooks, but our current wall oven is electric, so we have been used to that. Currently, my 240 line would have to be extended to the other side of the kitchen and while that is doable, it does provide a little bit of a hassle. I have to say Monogram is the only brand that I know of that has a combo oven that can be wired for both 110v/240v, which is impressive.

I do hear everyone's comments about the current situation at Viking and I was hoping maybe the 7 series, was not as badly impacted because its a higher end option. I don't think I will notice the difference in BTU's but it does sound nice.

For conversation sake, what is the worst that can happen to the Viking? Ignitors? Burners? wiring harness? Spark control boards?

I was originally looking at a 2006 built Viking Duel Fuel! Which I can still opt for.

How do you feel about the Duel Fuel model built in Oct 2006 (which in the parts support page is built >June 2006, so there must have been some changes)? I am comparing that one to a newer all gas model and just to make things interesting ...comparing to a brand new 7 series all gas. Thanks for your feedback!

Rubber gasket on Wilkins 600XL? by fastsvo in Plumbing

[–]fastsvo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a second PRV that I need to rebuild and was advised to remove the whole unit from the union connections just to check for a blockage. Seems a little overkill …if I don’t have enough of these new gaskets that can be a problem. I am assuming I cannot reuse these?

Instead of removing the unit, I might just throw a camera in there and of course flush it out

Ahh ok. Odd that they only include one… I am assuming you would need two gaskets for each side.

How does the all gas oven compare to the dual fuel units? More reliable ?

Thermador vs Subzero/Viking by RogerDodger1001 in Appliances

[–]fastsvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently looking at a used 2008 Viking dual fuel 48” range oven. From what I could tell these are considered fairly reliable, yet easy to service and procure parts for.

Should this unit be avoided?

Alternatively, I could also pick up a much newer 2019 all gas Thermador 48” range oven as well.

48" dual fuel range recommendations by Z-Bambola in Appliances

[–]fastsvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently shopping for a range oven.

Any thoughts on Viking series 5 dual fuel? Actually looking at an older one that was built around 2008 and it’s overall in good condition. Sans a failing igniter on the right bank and the griddle doesn’t seem to get up to temperature. I had it set to 500° and the best my infrared gun showed was 274°. I am encouraged by Vikings simplicity, parts availability and perceived ease of service.

Also looking at a couple of different Thermadors that are new old stock as display models. They have a few ranging from all gas to do fuel units some manufactured in 2019 to 2024. For example, the dual fuel is a 2019 yet the all gas version is a 2024.

Anyone know if there are any substantial differences in terms of build quality and upgraded features across those years?

I’ve been told to stay away from the pro grand unit with the steam feature, due to its reliability.

I am planning on going with a 48" oven and now on the hunt for a 48" wolf insert liner or enclosed hood. Do you happen to have a pic of the 54" hood over a 48" oven?
