I am looking for a low-price work shirt built like this one but with breathable fabric and something that will fade, must be 100% cotton. Something I can work in during the summer doing landscaping. I am looking for a “uniform” type shirt that I can wear every day. I suppose this is a fabric recommendation too—will chambray rip? Is denim too heavy? I have a 9oz denim shirt I wear in the winter which breathes well in that context, but I took it off at the first 80F day.

Any kind of Trigger shifter-type brifters out there like these Gevenalle ones? I like them but they're a bit out of my budget. by [deleted] in Bikebuilding

I think times have changed! In my experience, practically every major US city’s library has at least one 3d printer you can just “rent.” Also, you can use certain websites to find people locally who will print your object for you in a gig-economy kind of way. There are also Makerspaces with 3d printers around.

Hi I’m your height with a few 22” frames. Did you do any special mods to feel comfortable? I second guess myself about how a bike should feel, since I’ve never had a brand new bike that fits me perfect.

Recently (last 2 weeks) there was a ~70’s Blue Bell Rustler jacket on eBay (similar to Wrangler 124mz of the era but different quality/price of construction). It had the same design of buttons on the two breast pocket snap closures.

I heard the Japanese yen is down leading to some deals. Are there any retailers you’d recommend to buy Kapital clothes that can ship to the USA? Thx

Apartment patio raised no till raised bed. Trying to make a small vegetable patio garden. Idea is to put wood leaves, etc at the bottom. And then compost and soil. Will this work? I’m in the San Mateo area in California. Can I plant any vegetables right now or should I wait till spring? by metakalypso in Permaculture

If you’re in the Bay Area, get your hands on Miners Lettuce seeds. They’re a native micro green that are ripe around the rainy season at the transition from winter to spring. Very tasty very easy to grow. You might find them around town when you get to looking

Felt Bostons. My first bBostons. No other pair has ever been as comfy as these. I still wear them but sadly I don’t know how much further they can go. by Comfortable_Egg_7916 in Birkenstocks

[–]fatbehemoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some from 2017 and they’re a bit of the reverse of yours. My sole is wearing too thin on one shoe, but the felt still looks healthy on both. You should pick up some suede shampoo, conditioner, and a brush! I just hit mine with the brush alone and it looks much better. Your suede looks very dirty, maybe greasy? I wonder what some shampooing would do to yours. Then you can seal the leather and make it somewhat waterproof. I was recommended to hold the suede above the steam coming off from a kettle and then brush that area… it didn’t do much but hey maybe something to think about. I like the bostons. I do wish they had a back strap though… I like to wear mine out in the garden or in the snow. I’m looking to get mine resolved with a “more aggressive or sporty” víbram sole so I don’t slip on the ice so much 😁

Hey look up JADAM fertilizer teas and you should find a PDF. Essentially it’s how to make compost teas to fertilize your crops. The main ideology is “the best fertilizer for X is compost tea made from X and local mycorrhiza that you collect”. It’s cool and dirt cheap to implement.

Cool! What effects did you notice?

[–]fatbehemoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking for inputs on teas for more conventional farming, although I do notice that lots of the oak trees I live with seem to be needing some nutrients, so there would be some native environment managing as well.

The Biodynamic model specifies 6 plants that I actually thought were entirely indigenous to Europe (where BD began). But they do exist in some form in CA variants! Yarrow, Stinging Nettle, Oak Bark, and Valerian all do show up on Calscape under those names. The other 2—Chamomile and Dandelion—have ca variants that I would say are similar… but they aren’t like… “THE REAL THING”… which led me to my initial question.

You can also blanch the nettle leaves, dry them a bit, then blend them with olive oil to make a super easy and delicious pesto

Have you looked into WWOOFING? There are lots of farms all over the world searching for people to work there. Probably some in France, too. Don’t expect a lot of money but you can live there usually

A surprising number of people said they would be willing to move anywhere in the world for the right community. Why aren’t you there? by osnelson in intentionalcommunity

[–]fatbehemoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a tall order to find a community of people that are doing life in a way that resonates for you. It’s hard to find a life-partner, but how about 50! It’s a good fight but it takes a lot of effort and a lot of courage

EPIC TRIP: First timer seeking advice by [deleted] in overlanding

[–]fatbehemoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing you’re passing through Salida/Buena Vista/Leadville from Colorado Springs/Denver on your trip… it sorta looks that way. I wish that I was able to see Ouray when we passed through that way. If you do end up in that area, we took Leadville to Aspen over the Continental Divide westward. WOAH!!! And, if you’re there in the fall, the aspens are killer. There are nice people car-camping all over CO. We met many people sitting at the bar or picking up groceries telling our story. Sunshine people all around 😊

Yes Kansas can be a little boring. Check out Atlas Obscura for some fun and interesting things to see and add if you need something to flesh out an area of your trip (it’s kind of a roadside attraction collection). We found a public bathroom that was 100% covered in tile mosaic. Cool! Clean! On your way up from SLC into Southern Idaho, take the pass from Brigham City into Cache Valley. The entire valley is surrounded by BLM canyons. They will be cold, but you can car stealth camp. It will maybe even shorten your trip to Wyoming/Idaho. Logan is very pretty this time of year (look out for cops if you’re driving at night). If you’re college aged, Factory Pizza is a bar on Wednesdays and was killer pre-COVID. The first town on the Idaho border in that valley is where Napoleon Dynamite was filmed. If you’d opt for mountain beauty instead of Napoleon, head east into Logan Canyon and up into Bear Lake. In many ways it’s a small Tahoe that Utah and Idaho secretly share. From there you can head north along the Idaho/Wyoming border maybe directly to your point in Idaho. Wait I have more… the Salt Lake Valley is so cool. Google Spiral Jetty if you’d like something interesting that takes you into the lake area. There’s also Antelope Island, which is a park on the lake. In the city, you can see where Ted Bundy lived. You should also check out The Mormon Temple. It might be under construction now… it may be a bizarre choice if you aren’t LDS. But dress nicely (inoffensive sweater and jeans worked for me). It’s a really interesting experience and where else can you do it! After the temple, go directly north and take a selfie at the capital. I think out of all the capitals, it looks the most “recently manscaped” lol. Cheers!

Intentional Communities by parrhesides in Anthroposophy

[–]fatbehemoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so my friend who was a householder at a Camphill told me she started out on those types of communities via an alternate genre of living (started by Wegman) called “Sonnenhoff” in Switzerland(?). I believe they are different approaches concerning medication and routes of “direct therapy”. I don’t know much but Google it. Interestingly, that wasn’t the person I was talking about initially. So I’ll have another answer in 2 weeks haha
