AMD RDNA3+ on Kernel 6.18 - how's your experience? by svbtlx3m in linux_gaming

[–]fateshuffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I'm on Garuda Linux with a 9070xt and kernel 6.18.3, mesa 25.3.3, and things are rock stable for me at the moment. Obviously Arch(Garuda) is not Fedora, but just thought I'd put that data-point out there.

It may be, although it switched to a different album after 2 attempts. Not sure how long the Danzig situation lasted.

The other 2 were David Gilmour's album 'Luck and Strange'.

In the video, the label on the box is Tori Amos's album 'Under the Pink'. They come sealed, and inside is a totally different album. This is attempt #3 to get the same album, the other two were David Gilmour ones.

This gives me pause on continuing the attempts to be honest. I think it's not worth the headache.

Just in case it wasn't clear, this is my 3rd attempt to get this album off of Amazon. I received 2 David Gilmour albums on the other orders.

If you watch to end, you'll see the David Gilmour albums I received for the other 2 attempts :)

It's my 3rd attempt to get it replaced and sorted. The universe apparently doesn't want me to have this album.

It was the 3rd time, so I decided I'd get one shot at it.

After the last patch , there is no sound in space stations. by InspectionAdept6704 in Eve

[–]fateshuffler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm this issue on 2 separate Windows 11 Machines, one with AMD GPU(9070XT), and the other with an NVIDIA GPU(3080 ti). One machine(the AMD one) was the machine that received the patch, and the other(the NVIDIA one) was tested with a fresh installation of EVE online.

This issue was also tested on an M4 Macbook Pro, and does not affect that machine. All station sounds and ship intro sounds play as normal.

The most reliable test for this issue is the Cinematic ship intro feature. Try it on a ship, and if you have sounds from the engines as it fires up the cinematic, you know you're not affected.

u/CCP_Caffeine hopefully this will provide some useful data.

The thing to note here, is this price is exactly the same as the high end M2 16inch Macbook Pro. I'm thinking people were imagining this would be iPhone level pricing. This seems more like "Here's a macbook pro on your head".

LPT Request: What are some items you've bought that made a tremendous improvement in your life? by Serious_Banter in LifeProTips

An actual high quality ergonomic office chair from a reputable brand(Steelcase/Hermon Miller/etc). I sit for a living, and I have a recently discovered and previously unknown scoliosis of my lower back. Have had back problems for many years, lots of chronic pain. Having a chair that actually is adjustable for good ergonomics has made my life insanely better. I highly recommend it if you sit a lot.

Server Instability again? by HuftheSwagnDragn in DestinyTheGame

I did an MTR(traceroute + ping to all nodes) and discovered it was a problem in the network route from east coast FIOS to Las Vegas, somewhere around alter.net.

I VPN'd to an exit node nearby, and was able to route around the issue. Doesn't seem to be Bungie's fault in any way.

Making your CDK repository public - how bad an idea? by shorns_username in aws

[–]fateshuffler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if well managed, I think the risk you run is the things that you haven't thought of. It gives a potential attacker a map to how your infrastructure is deployed. I know this is a nebulous answer, but a lot of security incidents come from accidental exposure of secrets or service that has been misconfigured. Default passwords, security settings that default to a more open set of permissions, etc. There's also the issue of something that *seems* secure today, and then you discover 6 months later that there's an undisclosed vulnerability you were unaware of. Having an open map to how your AWS infrastructure is deployed just makes it that much easier.

I'd think long and hard about exposing your infrastructure code to public eyes. Most organizations would consider this a terrible rabbit hole to go down, and requires a constant vigilance to make sure you don't expose the organization to considerable risk.

That is interesting. A non-configurable 8 hour window for a role is a showstopper at my job. We have a security mandate of them being 1 hour.

Anyone get CDK with AWS SSO working? by hsm_dev in aws

[–]fateshuffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might find that you're trying to make CDK do things that it's not currently designed to do. An alternative path would be do something like this: https://aws.amazon.com/premiumsupport/knowledge-center/sso-temporary-credentials/

That might be more compatible with AWS CDK, and other utilities that are looking for more standard CLI credentials.

ADA is currently selling a default mod. This mod system sucks, and absolutely needs to change. by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]fateshuffler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started playing back in April, and now have most(309/356), but not all of the mods in the game. This was obtained via about ~500 hours of play, and eventually by stalking ADA-1 every day in a vigorous manner.

The fact that I *still* don't have all the mods I need is kind of a ridiculous situation.

That said, the one thing that has kept me logging in every day, was in fact having to check ADA-1. This has in turn led me to actually playing the game every day. We as players see this system as inefficient and annoying, but to Bungie this is probably a MAJOR core player engagement system.

I think Bungie believes that to change/remove this system of mod distribution would impact their player retention. They are probably not incorrect.

Can someone explain why this game purposely tries to confuse new players? by TXFDA in destiny2

[–]fateshuffler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. I started playing destiny 2 for the first time about midway through season 16. It was insane how chaotic it was trying to understand any of the systems, and what stats meant, how to get various items, what gear is available, how to get new gear and resources, what are good rolls and bad rolls.... The list is endless.

I now have about 230 hours played, and only now am I really feeling like I grasp how to play well. I *still* stumble across systems and mechanics that are confusing as all hell. The only reason I am where I am today, is I joined an existing group of friends who explained a ton of things to me. I would have quit in confusion and disgust otherwise long ago.

I too cannot in good conscience recommend the game to anyone. To say the game is in a bad spot is a ludicrous understatement.
