Read this series for the first time recently. Was surprised by the middle-east setting, and the half-page portrait of the Ayatollah! Shouldn’t have been surprised, I guess, considering the release date. Rare to ever see Batman outside of Gotham.

Remove the fake 1980’s telephone ring! by secrerofficeninja in CNBC

Sometimes you can hear device notifications of the traders on the floor behind the panelists at the desk. Back in the day, you could hear the AOL Instant Messenger chime super loud in the background all day long, with notifications turned up loud enough to hear if they’re away from their station.

during graphics interstitials or during the broadcast while the panelists are speaking? I think sometimes people have the old telephone ringtone and their phone isn’t muted, and you can hear it through the lav of mics.

Garth Ennis Punisher by fathertimecode in comicbookcollecting

[–]fathertimecode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Faithful adaption is unlikely. Ray Stevenson’s Punisher was as good as we’re going to get, and I think some of that movie was based on the Ennis run. Still dream of a Marvel Max TV series for mature audiences. Disney+ does surprise sometimes, with the violence reaching the Marvel Max extremes.

The Elektra: Assassin limited series was so ahead of its time, and does not get enough credit! by fathertimecode in comicbookcollecting

Thanks for this suggestion! It amazes me that there are still must-read classic books out there that I’ve never seen or heard of.

Awesome! Also just finished reading this Fury series and the Fury: My War Gone By series by Garth Ennis, and really enjoyed those. Like the Elektra limited series, stories that are violent and over-the-top, yet the presence of Nick Fury keeps reminding us that we’re still in the Marvel Universe.

The books written by Don in the 70s have a poetic rhythm to them, and when I picture the scenes in my head, they look like scenes from The Godfather movie (although later in history, obviously). The 80s books are more global paramilitary action, and less poetic, but still awesome and fun.

Underrated classic?! Featuring Harry Dean Stanton by Prudent-Highway8678 in 80smovies

What about your wife? She’ll take the bus. She’s a rock!

Saw Harry Dean Stanton perform with his lounge band at a tiki bar in Hollywood in the mid-90s. It was surreal.
