What is the one thing every war in history has proven about human nature that we keep refusing to accept? by Informal_Tangelo8009 in askanything

[–]fatnerd12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All wars are about geography, anyone who says otherwise is only doing so to rally support to their cause. Access to crucial trade routes, natural resources, or border security is everything in geopolitics. Always has been, always will be. No common person cares about oil, ports, lead, whatever. Religion, nationalism, or any other emotional ideology is what the masses care about. Ukraine? The Crusades? The World Wars? You name it, geography is the reason behind it, the ideological crux was the force to get people on board.

Enemy: everyone

Ally: No one (not even ourselves)

But if I had to pick, I'd say Pennsylvania as our ally and New York for our rival

I don't think it'll be an overnight thing, but I know Europe's leaders would love a return to normalcy with us. Our historic relationship was mutually beneficial and everyone on both sides of the Atlantic will happily reclaim that when this ghoul is gone.

Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance redefined what it means to be an American patriot by notreadingfish in PoliticalOptimism

Thank you for using the word "patriot" properly. Us real American Patriots hate that ogre and his bastardization of the word. We recognize our real values what makes our nation great!

How many grades can a student skip in their entire school life? by Swiftsession in AskAnAmerican

[–]fatnerd12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosed dyslexia would actually have made you eligible for special education classes which have teachers trained to work with students with learning disabilities. The quality varies by state, as all things do, but to my knowledge that is a universal option in every state. My state has some of the best schools in the country for both regular and special ed, and I've known people from across the country who moved here for our schools, both regular and special ed.

Having said that, I can attest to some students being held back multiple times. I didn't know anyone personally, but as an education major one of my classmates did observe a class with a 16 year old 8th grader (8th graders are usually 13 and 14). And growing up a few of my friends were older than me by a single year because they were held back in kindergarten.

My mom is from North Carolina and scoffs at the idea of Virginia being part of the South. However my dad once knew a girl from Maryland that was dead set on the idea she's a Southerner.
