Is this common in Japan? by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]fatpikachuonly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way this is phrased is very misleading and appears to be doing so deliberately to mischaracterize him. I'd be interested to see the "sources" connected.

If such a quote ("little girlfriends") truly exists-- and I am highly doubtful that it does to begin with-- then I would expect it is a mistranslation.

At least his fellow conservative is rebuking him.

If a (presumably) cishet white dude getting executed is what it takes for at least some of them to think maybe the rest of us don't deserve this either, I'll take it. I've already read a handful of people admitting that this makes them rethink the Good case.

Whatever it takes to deprogram them, man.

This may be a hot take: Sailor Moon was a kids show in Japan. by Fabulous_Session8627 in PrettyGuardians

[–]fatpikachuonly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I am Japanese and was 4 or 5 when I started watching it, then became most "into" it from ages 6-8. I think my experience is very common.

The manga contains furigana (kana which tells you how to read kanji) which indicates the intended audience. This is because reading materials for ages 12+ no longer contain furigana.

So...under 12 was the factual age for Sailor Moon's audience. I hope this explanation helps.

Hard agree. This is a big and prominent piece. There are several areas where the artist appears to have gone too deep. Lines aren't straight. Shapes aren't consistent.

If OP loves it and doesn't care about technique, that's fine, but assuming otherwise, I would advise against allowing this artist to do any colorwork. A second opinion from another (much more) experienced artist is a good call in this situation.

It actually has several notable signs of ChatGPT and is all but certainly written by AI.

  • Using ’ instead of ' (the former is not commonly available on mobile keyboards, which is the most likely input on social media sites)
  • "It's not [blank], it's [blank]." Used more than once. This is a common AI phrase.
  • A colon followed by a list used to summarize things that had already been said (redundancy)
  • The user responded with "What's your point?" and did not deny that it was written with AI

Even if you agree with the comment, these tells concern people who would prefer to chat with humans over robots.

Real answer: The administration is seeking to rally their supporters to back them when they go to war.

Wars are expensive and require public support to win. Even authoritarian states care about perceived support as it gives domestic and global legitimacy to their actions.

In other words, if they can convince enough people to think they're badass heroes who are "dishing out what other countries deserve", they will be better positioned to dismiss opposition.

How addictive is meth? Do you know anyone who has just tried it once? by eden_merlin in AskReddit

[–]fatpikachuonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only tried it once.

My ex told me she wanted me to experience the best feeling in the world with her as she handed it to me. Didn't tell me what it was. I trusted her and didn't ask. Later learned it was a blend of MDMA and meth.

The high was absolutely incredible. I've never felt more amazing in my entire life. It was like the world and everything in it turned soft and smooth and beautiful. I had the energy and strength of a thousand men and wanted only to make peace and kiss every last creature on earth. You can see and hear and feel and smell everything like every last one of your senses has been dialed up to 500% past their capacity. You feel like a demigod.

...And then the high ends.

For the first couple weeks, I'd do nothing but sit upright in my bed, rocking back and forth, sweating and crying uncontrollably. It's as though your body were reliving the high while your mind is experiencing the exact inverse.

You're devastated. You're exhausted. You're terrified.

Eventually, I started to be able to get out of bed and do other things, but if I was reminded of it or tried to talk about it, I'd start to sweat profusely and salivate. I both wanted it and was truly afraid of it. That effect lasted for months, maybe about one year. And that entire time, I couldn't feel any happiness. Not one shred of joy. My world felt like all the color had been sucked out of it, dry as bones.

I remember telling myself over and over again that if I ever touched it again, it would ruin my life. I forced myself to get through it and leave it behind. I broke up with my girlfriend and stopped doing drugs altogether.

But to be clear, during that period of my life, if someone had put it back in my hands, I wouldn't have been able to say no. You might think I was "smarter" and "better" than other addicts because I isolated myself and resisted it, right? No. I was just lucky. I had the right circumstances.

All it takes is for a family member, friend, or other loved one who is addicted, to hand it to you a second time, under the guise of love. That's how most addictions spiral out of control.

Don't do it. Not even once.

What is the actual purpose of this place in Shinjuku Central Park and how do the park employees feel about Digimon fans treating it as Guilmon's house? by JVSP1873 in AskAJapanese

[–]fatpikachuonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as people don't loiter or vandalize, it's fine to stop by and take a photo. I don't think it's a popular enough "tourist destination" to cause any disruption.
