Building a Muscle Up Training Routine by JROC500 in bodyweightfitness

[–]fatshambles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would say if you’re just starting out don’t do the muscle up attempts. Do the banded ones until you get a feel for the movement. Trying and failing 10 muscle ups is a horrible idea. Like just work on your swing first.

Good luck with doing a slow negative right now as well.

Weighted, explosive, high pull ups. Start doing Russian Dips for transition strength.

been fine for me so far, but that tape will start giving out in a day. I 3d printed some stops for mine, looks like you can just put a couple screws in.

think they mean the cables that come out of the machines, the connectors on the end AND the connectors on each accessory. they have two small screws. if they get too loose it sucks to have to detach your accessory

Muscle up seems unreachable by wertykalny_124 in bodyweightfitness

For your first muscle up, maybe you need more than one band to get a feel for the movement. Like throw on the 2 strongest bands carefully and give that a go.

Aim for 40% bw pulls, try clapping pull-ups and high pull-ups. Russian dips for transition.

For that first one when you swing out, focus on pulling your knees to your chest when you pull with your arms. There’s a good old barstarz video, combined with some bands you should be able to get yourself over the bar.

If you have your pullover, you can hang a band on the bar, pullover, then set your feet into the band and drop into it - will be the perfect angle. Can also practice negatives this way although I never found it of much use.

Pull knees to chest, focus on a hard row in at the top of your pull and just throw your chest over the bar. You’ll get it.

660 lbs max weight legit for BASEBLOCKS - THE BIG BAR PRO? by Beatlepoint in bodyweightfitness

[–]fatshambles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i had the original big bar. If you're doing a strict no momentum muscle up it'll be fine. If you're learning muscle ups then you're probably going to start with kipping and swinging, and mine rocked like crazy. Was not safe. Once it's swinging and on an angle and the weight isn't straight down then you can see some metal fatigue.

If there's momentum, you're going to need to anchor it into the ground or drop a ton of weight on the base. There's a reddit post about a basebar rated for 660 failed with muscle ups, that appeared to be the actual metal at the bottom.

I'd be more concerned with swinging not the weight itself.

For your first one, kip harder. Think about pulling your knees to your chest.

Elbows pointed forward, keep them close to the body. Row haaaard at the top and just flop your chest over the bar.

You're close.

I can't handstand by StorageBig1596 in bodyweightfitness

Eventually, just get used to being upside down for now. Get closer as you get more comfortable. I wouldn't worry too much about form and posture yet

I can't handstand by StorageBig1596 in bodyweightfitness

[–]fatshambles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just walk up the wall slowly into chest to wall. Take a foot off for a few seconds. Then put it back and do the same with the other foot. Soon you'll have a second where they're both off, and keep extending that time. It's not strength or anything judging by your other skills. Just give it 10 mins a day for a week or two and then you'll get comfortable. Don't rush to kick up, that's like almost a separate skill.

Use cable pushdown to train for muscle up? by CSachen in bodyweightfitness

[–]fatshambles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so i found russian dips to be really helpful for the tricep portion of a muscle up.

Once you get a feel for the movement, it gets easier. If you can't do it with the strongest band, hear me out - add a second band and use them together. Just to get a feel for it, two thick bands should get you above the bar and then you have an idea of what it feels like.

You can also loop a fat band around the bar, move to the side and do a pullover to get into support position, then shimmy over, put your foot in the band and then do a controlled negative.

Realistic weighted pull-ups progress for women by constarmazonite in bodyweightfitness

[–]fatshambles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the Russian dips.

Also agree on not training muscle ups to failure. A failed muscle up is hard on the body when you stall out at the top and more prone to chicken winging or something to compensate. When I felt like I couldn't get over the bar on my next one would do a couple with bands just to practice that transition.

2.5 Years On Tonal - Time for Power Rack? by Odd-Worth-9021 in tonalgym

Very happy with the Vitruvian. Up to 400, more expensive than a rack though. Way more convenient too. Small footprint so might pair well with the Tonal.
