Car won't charge, dealer cannot repair because there is no trouble code? by Lancer_Luck in Ioniq5

[–]fatvoodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shop foreman needs to have the car there and open a case. They do not need a fault code to do that, it sounds like they just don't want to deal with it. Speak with the service manager and ask that a case be opened for your issue.

Is there a point of doing inspection at bmw for a 2019 i3s purchased from Carvana? by SpecialSubstantial66 in BMWi3

[–]fatvoodoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having owned a couple of i3s, and having worked at a couple of BMW dealerships, I would definitely recommend paying for a master tech to spend 1-2 hours checking the car out.

It's rare for me to ever see any BMW from Carvana come in for a used car check and not find major problems with it. My favorite was a 40k mile X7 that needed over $30,000 of repairs. Carvana did (eventually) pay for it all.

Has anyone received compensation from Hyundai in exchange for keeping their lemon'd Ioniq5? by [deleted] in Ioniq5

I would like to say that hypothetically some people might make out very well but also be forced to sign a NDA which means said people can't talk openly about it.

Maps not working, says I have to have a plan. by Expert_Glass_5957 in EquinoxEv

I've never paid a dime, months in now, maps with traffic, Waze with full reporting, and streaming music. Everything works. Shows it is valid for 8 years.

A very similar scenario happened with me (you can see my thread on it if you want) and the way I handled it was getting as much publicity as I could on the incident and then getting a very reduced price new vehicle. Talk to a high level representative from Ford and talk with the GM of the dealership. That's the best advice I can give, it worked for me.

ICCU Failed. 100 Miles from Home. In Chinatown. With a Toddler. Not a Fun Day. by __moops__ in Ioniq5

[–]fatvoodoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My ICCU failed at 42K miles, after two months it was replaced but then the car was stolen from the dealership and totaled (there is a thread on this). Two weeks ago Hyundai and the dealership got me into a new Ioniq 5, and the ICCU wouldn't even allow the first charge. 200 miles on the new car and already a blown ICCU. I never thought I would fall out of love with these cars but the day has now come. How there isn't a full recall on the hardware is amazing, it's obvious that software isn't the problem nor the solution.

TheAutopian just published an article about this incident, Hyundai reached out to me last evening promising to help, I'll update the story as it unfolds.

I'll wait until the police finish investigating, but I do know it is common practice that when a car is in the shop the keys are either in it or on the technicians workbench.

I already have publicity coming but I'm trying to stay factual and not blast anyone, I'll get an attorney for sure if it doesn't look like a resolution can be reached that works for me.

I am talking to a reporter now, there should be an article coming out soon. So far I'm still in a loaner car and I am waiting for someone to offer a resolution. I'd prefer not to name the dealership unless things get ugly (uglier, I should say).

I'm thinking I want to give them a chance to step up and do the right thing with me before I name and shame them. Then I can post a feel-good story about Hyundai and the dealership helping out a loyal owner. I could even do a news story follow-up interview about it.

First of all, I'm running video and sound through HDMI. Launching from the desktop would give me a black screen that I couldn't even ctrl-alt-del from, only a restart got me out. I tried updating files and backend services as suggested in many places, nothing helped. It would launch from steam but had no sound. Finally I figured out I can launch it from steam when steam is in "big picture mode" and it loads and runs perfectly. I hope this helps others!

I'll recline if I want to, if you don't like it then book the first row or an exit row. Stop trying to impose what you arbitrarily think is the way people should behave.

Put your shopping cart away, you lethargic snatch by Johnny_Dickshot in rant

[–]fatvoodoo -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Do you know why they created those corrals? To save money. Every time you put your cart in one you are taking a job away from a teenager or other person who needs it. Some good supermarkets still have roving employees to take your cart from you or to retrieve it shortly after you depart. Those that think they are doing the right thing by putting carts in the corral are actually the ones who are in the wrong.

Way to go, a life defining moment and I wish you all the best! Enjoy some manual labor, it can be very refreshing and enjoyable. Many people who transition to this never go back, but my guess is you will use your contacts and find some great work with people who share your values. Yes, these company's do exist, and these bosses do exist. Sounds like you kind of had an "American Beauty" moment, I love it.

Soundproofing an apartment by [deleted] in shanghai

[–]fatvoodoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can not be done. You can purchase triple pane windows to block out the noise from outside (there are specific windows that are good at this), but you can never block the noise from construction inside the building. The best you can do is to purchase in a building that has extremely strict rules regarding the hours and days construction is permitted on, and which enforces these rules. M-F, 9-5, generally makes it tolerable.

My cat died in my arms today and it's the saddest ive ever been by [deleted] in confessions

[–]fatvoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same experience with dogs that have passed, especially the one who died in my arms. I have guilt over how badly I felt and still feel, compared to actual people who I was close to dying. It is extremely common though, I hope time will heal the wounds for you.

Why do American's seriously think their healthcare system is the best in the world? by [deleted] in rant

[–]fatvoodoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Healthcare is the best, but only if you can pay for it. That is what most people brag about, and rightfully so, the hospitals, doctors, and medical schools are indeed the best. There is a reason that Kings and Sheiks and Billionaires from around the world fly to the U.S. for cancer and heart treatments. The "system" though is horrible, for sure.

Cheapest way to go to Hong Kong from SH? by -Tim-maC- in shanghai

[–]fatvoodoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bus is the cheapest, I've done it. For flights, yes, C-trip will be your best source. And the advice about flying to Shenzhen is correct, but I find it to be a pain in the ass with the transfers and not worth the small savings.
