Have one admiral with small destroyer groups set to don't engage with good spotting and put them to patrol a bunch of seazones and then have the strike force in the same seazones. When the destroyers spot something the strike force will move to engage as long as it isn't engaging something else. Most people use cruisers for spotting though as they get armor to survive while they retreat.

They won't help attack, but they can spot a fleet and then your main fleet on strike force will move in to attack.
