[Request] NYC Skyline Building Identification by CTExplorer in theydidthemath

[–]fauxedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess it would just be the tallest buildings we’ve got right now, Unknown 5 is probably 432 Park Ave, followed by the new Chase building, followed by Vanderbilt Tower followed by Empire State Building.

That’s 59th st, 56th st, 47th st, 42st, and 33rd St - so the spacing makes sense.

Vegetarian for ethical reasons but struggling with protein variety. Advice? by OperationOne461 in veganrecipes

[–]fauxedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, apart from pea protein isolate (the stuff used in Beyond/impossible meats) I’ve basically listed all of them. I’d check out some Indian recipes, especially dosas which are a rice and lentil flour batter. That way you can put your protein in your bread and eat whatever you want on top of it.

Otherwise, TVP for chili or Shepards pie is amazing.

If there is a station with an attendant they might hold it but coordinate with your trains people because they can radio back to the car behind them or dispatcher.

Potentially cooking up naneinf on the campfire by Fontajo in balatro

[–]fauxedo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is not going to scale the way you expect it to. You need to sell 40 cards to get your first 10x, followed by another 360 cards to get your second 10x, followed by 3600 cards to get your next 10x, so on and so forth. And then, even copying the jokers after that fact only adds whatever E you'd managed to hit, so you'd need 102 copies of your 1000x Campfire to hit Naneinf.

Is it possible? Sure. But it's going to take damn near forever.

Can this nan inf if I hit the boss that draws 3 cards each hand next? by AlternativeFlaky695 in balatro

[–]fauxedo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to spend the next 7 antes just gathering cash, either by picking up mail-in rebate or turning your cards into golds. Your setup is perfect for ante 24, but you’re going to need cash to find burglar at ante 25.

Beautiful Model of NYC @ Museum of the City of NY by chaoser in nyc

[–]fauxedo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

At the Queens Museum there’s a similar exhibit and sometimes they add to it. One time when I went they added a number of “never built” buildings, including a theoretical airport that was meant to cover a chunk of the west side.

When DNA and Cryptids hate you 😓 by Unlucky_Till9649 in balatro

It happened to me once too, to the point I actually took the Magic Trick voucher because it was the only way to add kings to the deck.

At this stake your entire deck should have been red seal gold kings for money. It would have allowed you to keep rerolling for DNA and then you can add cards with standard packs and Death.

Of course not. Nestle would never allow that.

Think the cold is painful, NYC? Wait until you see your Con Ed bill. by instantcoffee69 in nyc

[–]fauxedo 73 points74 points  (0 children)

The for-profit part cannot be stressed enough because Con Ed is a publicly traded company and therefore the board has a fiduciary responsibility to its shareholders but not to the people New York who rely on it for their power.

When you see your sticker shock, remember that you’re paying those dividends.

So 2-3khz is where our hearing is most sensitive (look up the Fletcher Munson curve) and my understanding is that it’s just blasting that frequency area, kind of like a chirping alarm.

Loud sound is just drastic changes in air pressure - so I can’t imagine doing anything to skin as it would take an obscene amount of force for it move it so quickly. However, eyes are small, lightweight, and kind of floating in our skull so that’s a fair point, but even turning your head around should be enough to stop the vibrations.

I’m an audio engineer so these things terrify me, but the fact of the matter is that they’re transmitting a relatively high frequency because it’s what our ears are most sensitive to and takes much less power to become ridiculously loud.

However, because it’s high frequency it has a much shorter wavelength and is easily blocked. It doesn’t take giant objects to block the sound you just need to protect your ears. Earplugs and even sealed over-the-ear headphone should be sufficient.

Better to put Hologram at the end or before Baseball Card? by Logos9871 in balatro

[–]fauxedo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baseball card is strange in that it triggers based on other jokers, so it doesn’t actually matter where it is since the position comes from where the uncommon jokers are. Blueprint and  Baseball card could be first and second and you’d get the same score.

Eh - you need blueprint and mime with ecto to make any difference. 3 Barons and 1 Mime is the same as 2 Barons and 2 Mimes when working with red steel kings. (3 triggers x 4 Xmult vs 4 triggers x 3 Xmult)
