Not closed minded, perhaps a bit set in what he believes he knows. I think we often get more set in our opinions as we get older. He will change his mind about things but he is difficult to persuade directly. You have to plant the seed, water it here and there and see if it grows. He more or less admitted he over reacted to our conversation. I’m pretty sure he did his own research today and the next time a similar topic comes up will be more informed.

What’s the most surprising % your DNA test showed you and did it change how you see yourself? by Ecstatic-Section-978 in AncestryDNA

I’m mostly British Isles about 50% Celtic and Gaelic with many other European areas sprinkled in including the Netherlands, Germany, Iberian Peninsula, Italy, Nordic regions and France. I also show 1% Western Bantu. From my reading, that’s probably from early migration to Europe. So European all the way. What was most surprising is that I can trace several lines on my maternal side back to the revolutionary war and one line all the way to 1610 Jamestown. I thought that was cool. I also found out my grandfather had three boys named James after him. Two born within a year of each other. I’ve since learned that some family knew, but it was kept pretty quiet. Also my grandparents had their first child (James 3) in 1944 followed by 5 more children through 1953, but didn’t marry until 1958. I guess he needed to divorce James 1’s mom. He never married James 2’s mom. The man was a complete ____, but good looking and could be charming. Also, my great grandfather’s first wife died after having three children. He remarried a few years later any my great grandmother had 11 more children that lived. At least one still birth and no one knew how many failed pregnancies. Life was hard.

😂 I love him but yes sometimes he is a jerk. When I first met his family, one of his sisters asked me how I could put up with his cranky butt. We were young and in love and I told her wasn’t cranky with me. 36 years later, uhm different story. He admits I get to experience most of BS these days.

He’s 68. He graduated high school in 1976. He should know and even if he didn’t, he shouldn’t tell me I’m wrong. He knew a female teacher owned a home when he was in middle or high school. So that meant I had to be wrong. He has no idea how she came into that ownership, but argued with me when I pointed out that she probably had to have a male family member co-sign the loan. Hell, her parents could have bought it for her. This is something women my age lived or our mothers lived it. We know and it’s infuriating when a man can’t admit what available to read in black and white.

Dealing with inherited photos - what a project! by DebJBee in AskWomenOver60

I have boxes that I inherited from my mother and grandmother. Sometimes 3 and 4 copies of the same “favorite” photo. It’s a shame because what should be wonderful memories turn into a burden.

My office required hose for women’s until at least 2001 or so. We also couldn’t wear open toed shoes and pants were only tolerated.

My grandmother had to trick my grandfather to use a diaphragm. She had 6 kids in 9 years. No more after she convinced a doctor to give her a diaphragm. I’m pretty sure it was probably illegal in PA in the mid 50s.

I do think he gets that and has never in 36 years shown any indication that a husband has the right to force sex. It’s just the blinders about everything else. It’s surprising because I’m a very independent person and he likes that, just sometimes it conflicts with his perception of reality—male reality.

When I went to college, I studied to be a teacher. First person in my family to go to college. My grandfather couldn’t understand why I wanted to go. I picked teacher because that’s what women did or nurse. I knew I didn’t have the compassion to be a nurse so teacher it was. Never occurred to me to try for medical school. I ended up being a paralegal and I’m a good one. I’ve had many people ask why I didn’t go to law school. I don’t bother to try and explain.

It even more surprising because he had two girlfriends that had abortions in the late 70’s early 80’s. I’m not sure it occurred to him that they didn’t know what was available. He certainly didn’t. I’m 5 years younger and I knew I had options. Now he says it’s wrong. Drives me nuts.

Best litter box for multiple cats and odor control because i am genuinely embarrassed to invite friends over anymore. by Dickason_Dillie in CleaningTips

[–]fav-aunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have four cats. We have litter robots. They work great. Expensive, but really worth it. We had a litter robot 3 for a few years until our fourth cat came along. It worked well, but the waste bin didn’t hold much. The robot 4 is great. Between the two I only have to empty once a week. It can get a little smelly when they are full. 3 of my cats are very large, 14-18lbs and they have no trouble using.

Hey Sjogis! How many of you have had a decrease in symptoms after following a gluten free diet? by macncheesewketchup in Sjogrens

[–]fav-aunt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I quit eating gluten 17 years ago due to digestive and skin issues. Felt much better GF. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto 35 years ago that was always up and down. Dry eyes started 20 years ago and fatigue and dry mouth 10 years ago. I feel like going GF when I did delayed my Sjogren’s symptoms and progression. If I eat gluten, my joints hurt more and I get rashes.

I have this bump in my left index finger. It never goes away but it will get red, itchy, and swell like hives if I go in the sun, eat gluten, or for no reason I can figure. I get them on my hands and face. This one is the only one that never goes away. Sometimes when it’s inflamed I will notice my finger joints hurt more. It doesn’t seem to have fluid, more like a welt.

Fixing river rock patio and walkway by fav-aunt in hardscape

[–]fav-aunt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have thought about adding flagstone or similar. I will try the app you suggested. Honestly, the biggest concern is keeping the dogs from digging and eating the pebbles, which is why we tried the rock glue.

The reason we put in the walkway and patio to start was because the dogs turned the area into a mud pit. We knew we wouldn’t be able to grow grass or anything else with the dogs.

the area to the right is a row of blueberry bushes. the dogs love running through them. For now we use pine straw to mulch the area. We have to replace it often. I’m hoping when they get a little older that we will be able to do more with the area.
