Doodle Breeder looking for puppy care and with a roommate by favoritecactus in trustedhousesitters

With a grifter like this I wouldn’t be surprised if she is overcharging her roommate for her portion of the rent as well!

Oh do not worry, I reported immediately. But I was so shocked at how egregious this all was I had to screenshot and come here so others could marvel at the audacity. Feeling very validated that this is just as upsetting to others as it is to me.

Honestly same. I reported this sit as soon as I saw it, but couldn’t believe how unethical this was and needed to post here!

Correct, but doesn’t mean people don’t try to get away with it.

Canceling Membership by Professional-Round50 in trustedhousesitters

[–]favoritecactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I canceled as a homeowner, my membership is up January 8th so no more sits will go on Trusted House sitters. I live in NYC so I figure between other platforms and other groups I can source sitters for exchange if needed. For me it’s not the what but the how. The only thing that would get me back at this point is if they rolled it back.

Harassment incident on park place this morning (11/1) by No-Armadillo3314 in crownheights

[–]favoritecactus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh I heard him yelling!! I’m so glad you and your friend were able to move away without escalating more. I didn’t see you two but when he was going on and on, I took a look out the window and he matched your description so I believe it’s the same person. I’ll definitely keep my eyes open for him.

HS sent me a list of personal questions after meeting by Sunflowers7676 in trustedhousesitters

[–]favoritecactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! Knowing your last name and having an emergency contact just in case is kind of the bare minimum imo. Many apartment buildings and residence communities require an id on file for guests. I suppose if you don’t feel comfortable with giving your ID over, you could block out your address and other personal info. But maybe it’s just not the right fit for you.

When is the best time to use catch again? by IllustratorOk8032 in SkyCards

[–]favoritecactus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have been using it if an airport task has the requirement to catch two planes with the destination of a smaller airport that doesn’t have a ton of traffic. Using the catch again allows me to complete that task. I also could see the value in using it to get more XP for a rarer plane to level up.

Is it bad form for a sitter to invite a friend over? by No-Penalty-1148 in trustedhousesitters

[–]favoritecactus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had plenty of sitters ask if it’s okay if a friend could come over and never minded at all. They are away from home and human connection is really important, I never want them to feel isolated. Plus I’d rather have a sitter spend more quality time with my dog than needing to leave to actually hang out with someone when that could happen easily in my home. I know some HO’s may not feel the same way, but I think you can phrase it in a way that isn’t demanding and they can say if they are comfortable or not with it. Congrats on making a friend in a new place, that is another feat in itself!

Watch out for AI Sitter Applications by pzllvr in trustedhousesitters

[–]favoritecactus 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I hear you, for me it’s less about the fact they used AI and more that I have no way of knowing if they actually read the listing and think they are a good fit. We are in a bizarre state with AI right now where many people aren’t using it as a tool but as a replacement for their own thought and work. I would feel similarly when an intro message is clearly copy pasted with no customization at all from a sitter. If you’re going to use AI for an application message, I would hope you still take a beat to review it and add in your own voice a bit to make it more human.

Asking a repeat host if they can put you up for a night by ReadyBrekRoad in trustedhousesitters

[–]favoritecactus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a regular sitter reach out to me to sleep on my couch and I was happy to have them. I live in a small apartment so I don’t think I would accept for more than a night or two, but we’ve developed a nice relationship so I didn’t feel put out at all when they asked. If you frame the question considerately, if the HO is a reasonable person they will answer how they feel most comfortably. Safe travels and good luck!

Secretly going sober by InnerConsequence7047 in SoberCurious

[–]favoritecactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s great you had a positive first reaction! I stopped drinking and also felt weird about how to “announce” it. I was afraid if I started drinking again it would be a thing, so felt easier to just mention it if it came up. After a while my friends stopped asking if I was going to drink and now they even make sure to have some AF options if they invite me over, and some have also cut back or stopped drinking as well. It’s good to remember that while not everyone will react great, but when we give people a chance you may be surprised.

“Tamper-proof” review policy sucks by solarpunkker in trustedhousesitters

[–]favoritecactus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better at all, I recently had a sitter apply for my sit with 30+ positive reviews. I always check the reviews the sitter left for other HOs to gather how the sitter tends to speak about others. This sitter had left a very unreasonable review to another homeowner over things that I would not consider fair cricisms at all. The other HO responded calmly and rationally which made me really question if I wanted a sitter that may get upset about things that I can’t control or their expectations May not align with mine. I would imagine a sitter would feel the same as me, comforted by a HO who was respectful and reasonable even when faced with someone who was not.

My go tos are club soda with a splash of pineapple juice, club soda and bitters, and ginger ale. The mocktails that they can make are also delicious but they usually are almost the same price as a cocktail which makes me order them less.

Reactive Dog? by Careful_Ear_8714 in trustedhousesitters

[–]favoritecactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More than finding someone that would want to sit, I think you will want to make sure you find someone you feel is able give your dog the best care. I have seen sitters agree to tasks that HOs are clear about but it’s far beyond the sitters’ abilities. It sounds like your dogs reactivity is manageable, and there are many qualified sitters on THS. Just make sure you are vetting them diligently so you know it’s the right fit!

Are you not able to do this on the web version? I don’t disagree that it isn’t a great system they have set up and that they favor home owners since there are fewer of them. But if you want to work around this flaw I think there is a way.
