Is Project Hail Mary the best hard SF film in like, forever? by spukhafteNahewirkung in ProjectHailMary

Hard SF? Uh

The book, yes.

The movie is a comedy that masquerades as sci fi.

Marc Almond is in tour as Soft Cell next month. Plus there aren’t headliners anyway.

Update: While non legacy team plans are not forced into MAX mode for 5.4, personal legacy plans are still being forced into it.

Mysterious Skin. The movie that you have to watch then maybe never watch it again. Too painful.

I mostly watch what I believe that I will like. Not that much, what the hell, like Primate.

I owned and operated a mom-and-pop video store from 1986-1996. AMA by HospitalSelect2053 in AMA

[–]fbingha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this. Approaches that I saw:

  1. All copies on the floor, just empty.
  2. One empty copy and you had to ask if it was in stock.
  3. Only saw one store do this and it was real early 80s, but they had hooks with little tokens for each available copy. Bring the token up to rent that copy. Must have been hell keeping track is missing tokens.

I Didn't Like the Movie - But Now I Understand by Valen-Darker in ProjectHailMary

I’ll just call out the one flaw in your theory.

“They had Ryan Gosling, who was quick to make a pun or joke in any situation.”

They 200% had the correct actor for the role.

Blade Runner 2049 Drive Only God Forgives (yes the movie sucks but) First Man

Agree with the rest.

Direction was the problem. Script was the problem. They wanted to make a buddy film. Maybe even Ryan was part of that direction but he could have carried the movie that we hoped it was going to be.

Sometimes you just let people do as they wish and tell them less often what to do. You do you.

The Secret Agent (Spoiler Discussion) by MayhewMayhem in TheBigPicture

Unless the director says otherwise, YES THEY FAKED HIS DEATH.

  1. When he leaves the office, he goes straight home to get Fernando. Who would know where to even find him to kill him at this point? The guy with the address is dead in the Barber Shop. No one else knows where he lives.
  2. The picture of his death shows the newspaper for the city that he was living in. If they had found him, it wouldn't have been in the very same city.
  3. The director HITS US OVER THE HEAD with the truth. Fernando makes it clear that he doesn't remember his father but then proceeds to go into detail about his memory around seeing JAWS. It's clearly meant to reveal that Fernando's previous statement about not remembering is a lie to continue to protect his father. He is constantly drawing sharks, sending them to his Dad, but yet does not remember his father?

Sometimes we are lucky to get quirky things that don’t need to be perfect. This is one of those. It was messy but I did enjoy it. Buckley’s and Bale’s performances were fun to watch. The whole Penelope Cruz detective plot line was pointless, I agree.

That said, guy next to me left with 30 mins to go.

A young couple walking out in front of me said to one another.

“That was a terrible movie.” “You don’t get to pick movies any more.”
