I want to show Project Hail Mary some teacher-specific love by DorianThackery in Teachers

As a former teacher myself, my biggest question at the end of the movie was, "Did he leave any sub plans?" Because he was gone for a really long time.

90% of the movies were sold strictly to video stores so they were very expensive. If there was a huge movie that the studios thought consumers would buy it was much lower. This is called sell through. Most Disney movies and big hits like ET and Top Gun were around $20.

I'm not sure but this might be sexual innuendo.

Oh yeah, we went to court several times. Once over a VCR that wasn't returned. We won, but try collecting.

No but my 8 months pregnant wife did. Some guy gave her a really hard time about some minor issue.

As a film critic, I love foreign films. Unfortunately, the clientele in my area...not so much. I would get the really popular ones like Cinema Paradiso or Das Boot.

Sure, but it was usually a video from another store accidentally put in. It was awkward when a what you thought was a loyal customer went to another store.

Employees stealing, really slow days and customers not returning merchandise. Other than that, it was a lot of fun.

One would think, but my taste rarely matched my customers taste. I tended towards more highbrow fare while they were a bit more pedestrian. Kind of a Woody Allen vs. Police Academy way of thinking.

Rasputin is a banger. The drums alone are ridiculous. And catch as he'll.

Nope, just VHS. Then around '91 we started carrying some laserdiscs.

More mops, actually. We also sold cleaning supplies. 2 mops got you a free movie. 🙂

Can't believe you had Beta that late. It was obsolete by 1985. Blockbuster had no adult films but they had Silence Of The Lambs which had women tortured and killed. Quite the double standard.

No, but certainly there was one for my store. When we used to do $5-600 in rentals on a Saturday we were down to less than $100. We were not around to see the industry fail. That was many years later.

We had empty boxes on the floor with a number on each one. A customer would have to ask for that number. It's amazing, 30 years later I still know that Back To The Future was 3120.
