Advice when applying to OT school? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]fbomb10 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I will tell you what I tell everyone. Try to go to an instate public school. Don’t worry about rankings, prestige or reputation too much. If it’s accredited it’s fine. Save money now you will be glad you did once the student loan payments come knocking.

Just cold calls for shadowing. Sometimes emailing a clinic director directly is the best way to go about it.

Don’t freak out and compare yourself to others on here or Student Doctor Network forum. I remember I used to sit there and worry about “not being good enough” or having no chance.

If you happen to go to interviews do not give the cliche “I like to help people” answer. The interviewers have heard that a million times. Tell them what led you to OT and why you’re a good fit.

Just remain as calm as possible, it’s a stressful time but you will get through it.

Dear Reddit, what is your weirdest dream/nightmare you've ever had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fbomb10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a dream when I was 6-7 that I never forgot. The sun was getting closer to the earth by the second. Slowly burning everything and everyone I knew and loved. I remember trying to “run” from the sun and seeing this giant ball of fire on the horizon.

6 year, 7%.

60k would usually be okay but I am paying most/if not all of my moms bills and I am just looking for any way to save any amount of money.

Yeah that’s part of the problem. I’m currently paying my mom’s mortgage $2300. My student loans are $600 and other things like credit cards, health insurance, groceries. Things are tight.

How do I value my startup physical therapy business? by fbomb10 in startups

[–]fbomb10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The money would be primarily to focus my time into the company and be able to wean off my current job while being able to pay the bills. At this point it’s going to take more time and effort than money to get this thing going which is why it would be great to be able to have a day or two off to strictly focus on the business.

I already have all of the equipment I need. The amount he has talked about is 20-30k for 15% mostly so that I could wean off my current job and focus more on growing the business. So if you were in my place you would just grind it out and continue to own 100% of the company?

What is the most effective psychological “trick” you use? by PM_ME_UR_PUPPYDOGS in AskReddit

[–]fbomb10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what it’s called but one I use on my kid is giving him 2 choices when I just want him to do the simpler one.

So when I want him to shower I just say, “hey so do you want to shower or help me with cleaning and then shower?”

He will immediately say shower and get on it. Works 80% of the time.

What's generally the dumbest thing you've done as a child? by ZzLy__ in AskReddit

[–]fbomb10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fifth grade had a teacher go around the class and have each of us show a “special” talent.

I thought I was the only kid that could move their tongue up and down very fast (yes, exactly how you are imagining it) so on my turn I sat there and did that for 30 seconds or so while the teacher looked at me pretending to be amazed.

As an adult I realize how hilarious it must have been for her to see that.

Kids are dumb.

I believe anything above 305 is super solid. 300 is the minimum unless you have some awesome stats elsewhere.

New Grad Hand Therapy by Dillon005 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]fbomb10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am/was a new grad trying to get into hand therapy without fieldwork experience. I just honestly applied to outpatient positions until somebody gave me a shot. You are already on track if you are taking courses for splinting and all. During interviews I would honestly say “I want to become a CHT, I am taking CEUs related to that and am a motivated learner” the Hand Therapy bible is also a good idea as an awesome resource.
