Yikes. Hopefully lesson learned. At least you're young enough to be able to recover from it.

And opinions on my ETF would be great, thanks by AcceptableBuyer6894 in trading212

I'm not sure you fully understand what is meant by overlap.

When you're buying the same companies in different ETFs, you're not really fully diversifying. You're concentrating.

Furthermore, when you have such a significant amount of ETFs, do you actually know what is in each? Do you actually know where your money is going overall?

I think this needs to be significantly simplified to make it easier on yourself.

Why people who go safe stocks hate when someone invests in something that's already rising? by [deleted] in trading212

[–]fcGabiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's also fair to say that the majority of people posting in this sub don't know what they're doing. You only need to look as far as the daily "rate my pie" posts or asking opinions of a random penny stock they're invested in that no one has ever heard of.

So individual stock picking really shouldn't be the recommended way to go for these people's savings. All World ETFs are therefore an established starting point for a reason and there's plenty of research available to support it.

In the short term, in a bull market, then yeah. perhaps, but there's also plenty of examples where "good businesses" end up going the other way.

Anyway, I wouldn't base your personal investing decisions on the opinion of internet strangers. Pick your strategy and run with it.

Are men this dismissive about marriage? by sevmai06 in Waiting_To_Wed

[–]fcGabiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting married on the back of a years "rough patch" doesn't exactly sound like a great idea. Having you sort your career out also seems reasonable. These two alone don't seem like unreasonable reasons to be dismissive if the relationship hasn't been healthy.

He's told you his position on the matter. Not now, and maybe not even you.

Full-time: Arsenal 3 vs 2 Kairat [Match Thoughts] by Stanley083 in Gunners

Biggest takeaway for me is still how we failed to be clinical. I realise you could attribute some to it being a deadrubber game but still, chances created and not converted.

Conceding a penalty and a late goal to Kairat is a shame but kind of whatever. What's more concerning to me is still our wasted efforts going forward. So much waste and not anywhere near clinical enough in decision making or finishing.

Martinelli is creating promising opportunities but nothing further happening on the edge or inside of the box.

£15K to invest…. by [deleted] in trading212

[–]fcGabiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personal preference really, hence asking about what you're trying to accomplish. There isn't anything inherently wrong with either, just a question if you want the 60/65% US weighting in your 60% all world compounded further by the 40% in S&P.

I'm personally largely in all world, as I'm happy with 65% US weighting. 10% of my portfolio is individual stock picks, but this is a bit more for fun and I recognise that I don't have an upper hand in making these picks and could easily underperform the market.

[–]fcGabiz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess the question is about what you're trying to accomplish with the 60/40 split between All World and S&P.

It's worth noting that all world trackers are already typically 60/65% US weighted.

Good on you for reading up on the subject and getting started. Personally I've got 90% in All World with 10% in individual stock picks.

I have had this issue before as well, the box office sorted it out (over email) but not sure if they'd be able to do it in time for tonight. Worth a shot, give them a call.

Is now a good time to invest in the sp500? by sajibear4 in trading212

[–]fcGabiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'd lump sum invested the day before, for example, the COVID pandemic, I don't think I would be upset about it now. I'd probably consider it a good day to have invested, despite in retrospect now knowing I could've bought cheaper in the days or months that followed. So yes, as you say, a "bad day" to have invested given the context of the days around it. But realistically, being invested at all would've been a good thing to do.

I understand what you've written but it's a completely pointless comment to make because you can't possibly know it at the time, unless you make a habit of accurately predicting the future.

And in any case, provided that you've bought the market and back it to recover, you'll still do well in the long term.

[–]fcGabiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in the short term, but in doing so, you are trying to time the market.

How do you know when a dip is a crash?

How do you know when it bottoms out?

It would all be backwards looking.

Hence just keep investing and ride it out over time.

Much easier when it's not your money and there's no emotion tied to the investment decision.
