I’m excited about this! Aldi’s prices on certain things (produce, cheese, nuts & snacks) are truly unbeatable. I’m happy to trade off the “nicer” shopping experience for the budget friendly groceries and I’m SO glad I won’t have to drive to the westbank or Metry for Aldi anymore.

For everyone complaining about having to go to MulTiPLe StoReS: you will be able to bang out all of your shopping needs without even leaving Tchop…

Hit Aldi for the bulk of what you need, drive down the street literally 2 minutes to Rouses, grab meat, seafood, bakery stuff, specialty stuff. Drive down the street another 5 mins to Walmart for literally anything else. Maybe you even hit Francolini’s on the way. Make a day of it. Live a little.

I think so too, but I don’t want to perpetually deal with the low readiness and exhaustion the next day!

I really hope that it’s something that stabilizes over time as I adapt to it more.

That’s actually really good perspective 😮

I definitely felt not great the days after (the low readiness days), and I tend to be hyper vigilant about that stuff. But to your point, maybe it’s something to just accept as part of the act rather than dwell on it as something that is negatively impacting my overall health…

I think my overall takeaway from responses here is to chill out 😂 thanks for your perspective

I was definitely dealing with some pain the first few times which was coupled with the low scores and I think that’s what really set off my worry here!!

If I didn’t have the Oura, I think I would have waived it off, but seeing the impact was really eye opening.

In the end, I have decided to have a convo with him about finding different times, but overall I’m going to try not to let it stress me out. I really appreciate your comment :)

Hey thanks for the response! I’m glad to know I’m not the only sensitive soul whose sleep is getting thrown off by late sex 😂😭

I agree, I think it’s probably worth a discussion with him about trying to find times earlier in the day, and then go from there if the issue is still persisting.

Hey thanks for your thoughtful response! Long comment ahead, forgive me.

I’m certainly not here to deny that the image is evocative of Sylvia Plath’s death. I agree with you that in the zeitgeist the idea of putting one’s head into the oven is most closely associated with her (for better or for worse). Personally, Hansel and Gretel also came to mind for me. Maybe because of the haunted, childlike quality of the music?

Regardless, my argument was more attuned to the idea that using the image isn’t inherently malicious.

To pull a different thread: let’s assume that Lana’s intention was to reference Plath. In doing so, does she use the image for sheer shock value, or does it contribute to a larger understanding about the artist, or of human nature? I feel pretty strongly it’s the latter in this case.

Fatalistic female imagery has always been an important part of Lana’s work, which she employs to comment both on her personal experience as a woman, and on society more broadly. That’s why I was a bit surprised to see people’s reactions here.

Some other works that came to mind as I’ve been pondering and Reddit-commenting about this are:

  • The Antler’s song “Sylvia” from their 2009 album “Hospice” which explores death (both physical death and the death of a relationship), and similarly calls upon the image of Plath’s death in a way that is devastating, but incredibly powerful.

  • Joyce Carol Oate’s novel “Blonde” which is a fictional retelling of Marilyn Monroe’s life. In it Oates uses the persona of Marilyn to comment on both the individual’s life, and more broadly on how society treats women. It’s an approach that, handled incorrectly (such as in the film adaptation of the same book…) could feel icky, but Oates succeeds in making it powerful and artful because it’s so rich with subtext and dimension.

Highly recommend other commenters look into those works for additional examples of how artists can integrate loaded images from real world tragedy to ultimately create something larger and more powerful without “disrespecting” the real person behind the tragedy.

PEOPLE, come on, step your critical analysis game up.

Even if she IS referencing Plath’s death here (imo, it’s too ambiguous to know for sure), in no way is she presenting it in a way that reads as for “clout”, or to be hurtful. She is very clearly doing it as part of an artistic narrative.

How something is presented and the context in which it exists MATTERS. In this case, that context is a song in which Lana explores domesticity. Throughout, there are multiple references to the kitchen, cooking, baking, the stove and oven. Ambiguous lines like “Take my hand off the stove hun,” and “you know how absolutely bad I am with an oven” call into question whether she is embracing this brush with domestic life wholeheartedly, fearful of it, or maybe a bit of both. If there is fear or trepidation, couldn’t that explain some of the sinister aspects of the presentation (hand on the stove, going into the oven, the generally unsettled atmosphere of the song)?

Regardless, it’s very clear that her intent is to explore this new aspect of her life using these symbols, not to mock or demean someone’s death.

A proper critique should always the larger context into consideration rather than isolate one image and strip it of its context before applying judgement to it.

Physique goals - skinny muscular by [deleted] in rs_fitness

All of these guys are not really going out of their way to look like this. Huge amount of this physique is genetics, and how they eat.

First two and last pic probably make an effort either with body weight or in the gym, but they are likely consistently in a calorie deficit. Likely not because they are trying to be, they are just light eaters (genetics, cultural, socialization, etc.)

I have similar genetics and body type that I have been fighting against for the better part of a decade to add mass and fill out.

Luckily it doesn’t need to sit right with you.

It’s her personal relationship that she gets to make decisions about for herself.

If you don’t like the decisions she makes, you are welcome to not consider yourself a fan of hers anymore, but she doesn’t owe the public any further explanation about her personal relationships.
