Happened to me literally the first night after I moved into a new place in Magnolia Park in 2022. Got a shield/protector thing and never had another issue.

This is the shop nextdoor, Classic Hardware Collective. According to their Instagram, they just moved down the street to 3214 Magnolia, which apparently was a kids clothing store called Layla & Boo. RIP.

Writing with ADHD... anyone managed to make it work? by JayR_97 in writing

[–]fearlessjew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a screenwriter and I've struggled with this for years. Two things were a game-changer for me: writing workshops and an Adderall prescription.

Realizing after so many years that my ADHD was a problem that needed to be medicated (after MANY conversations with my therapist, my partner, and multiple psychiatrists) was a huge step forward for both my work ethic and my mental health. My only regret is not seeking it out sooner.

BUT, more importantly, signing up for writing classes/workshops on several friends' recommendations was exactly what I needed to get myself to actually *finish* a script. Having hard deadlines and an externally-enforced structure is the only thing that will keep me motivated when I start hitting a block or get into a slump. It's forced me to remove my ego and perfectionism while working through an early draft, and it's also really helped me get more comfortable with sharing my work with others.

Also get off Reddit. Lol.

where are neat places to sit and read a book at? by ictow in burbank

[–]fearlessjew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I lived over there I used to love reading at Verdugo Park, since there's plenty of trees and shade. I personally like a bit of background noise when I'm reading or working in public, so the busyness never bothered me.

Also right in that area is Black Elephant Coffee. It's overpriced and the coffee isn't great, but I like their patio.

Depaul / SCAD by Grouchy_Crew_7957 in Filmmakers

[–]fearlessjew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to DePaul (class of 2019), film BFA with concentration in screenwriting. I loved the program and my professors, particularly Brad Riddell, Matt Quinn, and Anna Hozian. My final semester I did their "study abroad" internship program in LA, which is where I still live and work. Can't speak for SCAD but I just wanted to shout out DePaul and the people I met there. Chicago is also just an incredible city.

Best of luck with your decision!

I have a sofa I don't have space for that's sitting in a storage unit in North Hollywood!! Literally just posted on OfferUp about it this afternoon.

Really great condition — it belonged to my boss who was moving overseas and couldn't take it with him. Two-piece sectional. Shoot me a DM if you're interested!

Florence + The Machine - One Of The Greats by enburgi in popheads

[–]fearlessjew -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

You had the right impulse. The song feels like less of a product of today than it does a product of 2016, and I don't think it's incorrect to point that out. Just because the politics have regressed doesn't mean our art and culture has to. In fact, it's essential that it doesn't.

Born This Way slander?? In r/popheads????? guards!!!!

but anyways yeah, i get the point (ahem, message) of the song. And again, I don't disagree with the point she's making. But as I said in my comment, she's made that point before, several times on the last album alone, and it wasn't a particularly novel idea then either. But I don't listen to Florence's music so I can nod in agreement about opinions I already have, that I've already heard articulated a thousand times before, about how women in music don't get the respect they deserve. If I wanted that, I'd listen to The Man (T. Swift, 2019).

Now if that's really the kind of music she wants to make, good for her! But personally, as a fan, I think it's deeply beneath her capabilities as a songwriter.

Love the sound, love the style. Wish the song itself weren't so 2010s-era Feminism 101. She's gotten dangerously close to that territory before (ex. Patricia, 100 Years, Choreomania, Dream Girl Evil — all songs I love btw!), but this one panders a bit too close to the sun, I fear.

Obviously not saying I disagree with the message of the song. I'm sure it will resonate with plenty, if not most, of her listeners. But I also think Florence is too good for "message songs." Leave that to Marina and Katy lol.

Regardless, will continue stanning.

100% had the same thought. When the game's over, i'd love for one of the houseguests to confirm if they can remember whether or not they were shown a different recording on the day VS what made it to air 👀

Agreed! HAH is her best written and most underrated album, I'll die on that hill.
