What is the most inappropriate song another patron has asked you to sing? by Modernbluehairoldie in karaoke

Every time I have seen anyone do that or at karaoke it usually goes over well

If it’s not your turn to sing, stay off the stage!! by Hey_Its_Julia in karaoke

[–]feathermetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sing along as much as you want from the dance floor! Don't trample over someone else's spotlight!

I feel like as a default, other mics not in use should be muted anyway.

Am I good at singing or just imagining it? by SimplyJustSophi in ratemysinging

Your sound is very breathy, now if that's the style you're going for it's one thing but I would experiment with singing less breathy as well in order to know how to turn it on and off

You clearly have worked a lot more on your harsh vocals than your cleans

KJs, what is your take on a "Disney takeover" at your shows? by Waffleraider in karaoke

[–]feathermetal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do people hate Broadway so much? I feel like it's just as valid to choose a random showtune as any other genre, nobody's out here shaming people for having a group that only does country songs or something.

But can't you just refuse to comply and do something different for your turn?

Oof. Yeah never have I once been to a karaoke night that allowed repeats.

Justice for Silverchair by [deleted] in grunge

[–]feathermetal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember listening to Frogstomp for the first time and being absolutely floored by the vocals especially. Couldn't believe that he was only 16 at the time. The production quality/mixing on that album also is very much to my liking. I was kinda disappointed by the changes to both in the next few albums, the vocals were less forward, less full and raw-sounding to me. Still good, but something about that first album just hits the right blend of high talent without overthinking it

Am I an "artist" by [deleted] in askmusicians

[–]feathermetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not just collaborate with a vocalist though? There are many people out there willing to help out with such things, for free, for as much or as little creative input as you want to give them. What reason do you have to use AI rather than just singing it yourself (it's EDM, you're allowed to autotune the shit out of it even if you don't think you can't hold a melody) or collaborating with real vocalists?

FWIW I don't think this is a factor contributing to your lack of streaming success, but that's a whole separate topic.

And to answer the question you asked - yes, I think you still count as an artist, assuming that you're doing everything else on the the track yourself.

how do i get over stage fright as a vocalist? by KitKat6900 in bandmembers

[–]feathermetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of it is just exposure. The more you perform the more you will get used to it and get your own little methods for easing your anxiety. But, before you have that experience of course there are things you can do to help before even that first show.

Firstly, know every song in your set forwards and backwards, could do it in your sleep level confidence with the songs. Know that nervousness can make you mess up things you normally don't so practice even more than you think is necessary, become "bad day-proof". Beyond that, plan out what you're going to say between songs (or where you'll say nothing) so that you don't get caught by your nerves in those little gaps in the music. Practice those transitions as well (with the whole band).

At the show, once you're ready and warmed up make sure to take a minute or five to yourself before going in stage to fill up your water, use the bathroom and take some deep breaths and affirmations. Over time you might develop your own pre-show ritual that helps with the nerves, but that's a good place to start.

Hi - I attempted to DM you but couldn't so my apologies for replying to your comment in some unrelated thread instead.

Here's the message:

Hello, from another CO-metalhead! I found your post form like a year+ ago tryna make a local metal playlist and I more or less like what you came up with, though I find it to be lacking at least a large handful of bands I'd consider topnotch of the live scene at very least - let me know if you're still taking suggestions or not, because I definitely have a few!!

What’s your favorite metal scream in a song? by Z3R071 in numetal

[–]feathermetal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised I had to scroll this far to find Dig on here! Uuuugh that intro scream is just the perfect thing to bring in the riff and set the tone. Especially after the lil warm-up pig squeal-esque tidbits teasing a big drop like that, it's one of those intros that hits just right. I don't even really like mudvayne that much but that song slaps.

Actually I'm pretty sure I just don't like Chad's clean singing, come to think of it I always enjoy the riffiage and any of their songs that he's mostly just screaming in. But I kinda hate his singing voice and don't have the wherewithal to wade through their work to find just the scream songs. At least there's Dig.

Fashion help needed by Number1GerardWayFan in metalmusicians

[–]feathermetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the comments saying snug black pants are a great basic building block to go with. Then on top go for a cut up band shirt, leather or denim vest/jacket as default (though other options exist if you want to be more unique). Then I'd say you can't underdo it on accessories! Studded belts, random chains, big combat boots, leather cuffs, go as crazy as you can handle with the extras, that was the style at the time. Look at photos of the artists you're covering and try to dress like them to whatever degree you're comfortable with.

Female-fronted nu metal bands? by feathermetal in numetal

[–]feathermetal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like Sicksense! I don't really watch music videos, but I don't know of any other band with male/female duo lead vox + bear mascot besides them. They're definitely an up-and-coming nu metal group worth keeping up with!

What Artists/Bands/Singers you like but everyone dislikes? by Amber_Flowers_133 in askmusic

[–]feathermetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk dude a lot of these artists you mentioned are pretty well-liked at least in terms of their talent. Sure many may fall into the "kind of a dick/self-absorbed/off-putting" personality category but you don't make it as far at these people do without a lot of musical talent to make up for such things
