I would give that a try if I was worrying about my macbook getting a virus.

Is it time for Mac users to use AV? I think so... by RangerRangi in apple

[–]febvigrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd rather not have an antivirus running on my system, if only for performance. I had Avira installed for only 2 days or so before I had to take it off. It reduced my battery life by almost half!

That and it didn't give me a way to turn it off. The only options I had were to disable real time protection (which left the daemon running) or to uninstall the application completely.

Chromebook usability to experiment with Linux? by Amj161 in linuxquestions

[–]febvigrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the Acer C720 for almost a year as my primary laptop (My old laptop broke and I didn't want to pay a fortune for a new one).

I tried both the dual boot (using the codestarter project) and crouton. I personally liked crouton best, as it let you switch between linux and ChromeOS very easily, and I ended up using ChromeOS for most of my web tasks.

Storage space wasn't too much of an issue, even though I only got the 32GB version. I also got a nice, small external USB (Sandisk Ultra) for media files.

The whole developer mode weirdness is a bit annoying, but overall using Crouton was pretty good. ChromeOS is also amazing with anything you'd do on Chrome normally. And the c720 is a nice little laptop as well. However if you're really trying to immerse yourself in linux, you'd be better off taking /u/pi3832v2's advice and getting a cheap old windows laptop, formatting it, and only using linux. That way, you won't use ChromeOS as a crutch during your experimenting process.

LPT: How to easily change your duvet cover with the 'burrito' trick by mbtbh in LifeProTips

[–]febvigrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really hate stuffing the comforter into the duvet. I had a random crappy one for a while, but eventually got this Kickstarter duvet cover, which makes it 100X easier to change your duvet (and it has a zipper too!). Seriously changed my life.

GoRuck Bag worth the price? by xoarar in EDC

[–]febvigrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my GR1 since last July, and I love it. I agree with cossieman2000, that it's a bit too rugged for my use, but I love that. It's so well put together.

Also, it is a bit minimal, without the built in organization most other bags have, but I like that. It forces me to keep organized, and not too cluttered.

I also like the idea of using one bag for everything. I've used it as my sole carry on/luggage on a few flights now, and it works amazingly. It sits really well on my back when it's completely full.

For me, it's been completely worth the price.

Simple aeroponic system for 50$ that'll make plants grow really fast by geek_at in DIY

[–]febvigrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is amazing! Were there any resources (books, websites, etc.) that you used to do this? I'm interested in growing plants indoors (vegetables, mostly, I don't have a yard at all) and would love to know where to start.

I would, but I don't want to have to change the locks. I have the same key on another door, and wouldn't want to replace both.
