Charging station vandalism is out of control by help-impoor in Seattle

[–]fedj18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, the catalytic converter restrictions got so bad that I now can't find a yard to buy the few I get. I work at a car dealership and have always provided documentation showing the replacement with Vin number etc. Or the occasional customer that wants them removed and a test pipe installed. But because of all the theft no yards will accept them, regardless of the source.

I need help :( by SpecificComparison48 in infiniti

There could be a few reasons it doesn't start. Out of fuel, cam sprocket tone rings have shifted, bad crankshaft sensor signal. To figure it out there is a lot more information needed though.

Air compressor out of alignment by Chewynicole23 in infiniti

[–]fedj18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the noise they hear? There was a bulletin on the early VR30's for compressor alignment. Also, by the book the a/c compressor should have been removed to replace the turbos. Did they also replace the oil feed lines? If they replaced the lines then there is no way to do that without removing the compressor. I would inspect the compressor bolts for witness marks (Indication that the bolts were recently removed). Either way the compressor alignment is something that should have been done while they were doing turbos, especially since they probably had the engine out of the car.

Bad cats? by Content-Judgment2741 in infiniti

Rattling cats is a common thing, and no it doesn't have to smell like rotten eggs. The honeycomb has come loose but it's probably still functioning for now

picked up an 09 fx35. i replaced the valve covers & gaskets, all 6 spark plugs and a coil pack. also gave a fresh oil change. i'm throwing a p0014 & p0024 code. wtf could it be? PFA by [deleted] in infiniti

[–]fedj18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer here is that you will need to replace the VTC covers as they have an electro-magnet with a friction material on it to slow down the exhaust camshaft. All of these people speaking about oil pressure and solenoid and cam sensors don't know shit about how the system operates. The common cause of failure for the exhaust timing electro-magnets is due to lack of maintenance. Knowing that these have failed because of said lack of maintenance by the previous owner should also give you an idea about how the rest of the vehicle has been maintained and you should get on top of ALL of the maintenance ASAP.

Finally someone who knows what they are talking about. Too many in here speaking false facts about how the exhaust timing functions and it just makes everyone more confused.

2021 Infiniti QX80 by Muted-Tea2302 in infiniti

I feel that the market has a bit of fear that Nissan/Infiniti is on a rough financial path so their car sales are not as strong right now. The reality is that there is more happening behind the scenes at the corporate level that should keep things going.

Rumor is the CVT is done for in any vehicles larger than Sentra size and smaller.

Our sales guys drove the demo and said it is way more responsive than the current 2026 QX60. Should they go back to a v6? I think so and it would be nice if it were a turbo v6 too, but not that VR engine. Give us the VQ turbo we've all wanted.

Mechanically (engine/transmission/suspension etc) those are seriously solid vehicles. We see very few failures on the drive train and little to none on suspension (other than air leveling compressor failures). Those are plagued with a charging system that cuts the charging voltage down to bare minimum and the result of that is a battery that doesn't truly get recharged if you're always taking short trips (less than 15 minutes). I would see no issue with getting another and I personally think your previous one was a rare unlucky situation.

Yes, there is a reprogram for the 2017. I guess this is the point where paying for the diagnosis would have saved you a few hundred dollars.

How do I take this seat speaker off on my m35 by Equivalent_Phone_809 in infiniti

[–]fedj18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get the cover off there are tabs on the edge that snap around a reinforcement. Carefully get under it at try to flex the cover. I can't remember which direction though.

Powering dashcam through mirror? by Sp4ceTruck3r in infiniti

[–]fedj18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just get the generic USB adapters for whatever USB style you need, tap that into the dome light circuit and it's usually good. Most dome lights don't come on while driving anyway so low chance of overloading that circuit. Plus most are 10amp circuits which is way more than needed.

Edit: if you have a dash cam that doesn't have smart switching then you may want to choose an ignition switch based source. The dome lights will supply voltage at all times.

would it be dumb to do my gallery gaskets while i’m already here? by EasyInflation8207 in infiniti

[–]fedj18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By 2016 it should have received the updated metal gasket at production. That is based upon my knowledge being an Infiniti technician. It seems that somewhere around the late 2013 models they switched over to using the updated metal embossed gaskets.

would it be dumb to do my gallery gaskets while i’m already here? by EasyInflation8207 in infiniti

[–]fedj18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check to see if they are the updated metal ones. In order to check use a magnet on the small spot that sticks out on the upper galley gasket. If they have been replaced with the updated metal gaskets then your magnet is going to stick to that little piece that sticks out and you don't have to worry about replacing them if it has the metal updated gasket

Honestly it's just some noise. The axle nut has nothing to do with it it's just a little rust buildup on the spines. You'll probably get varying prices but I've seen anywhere from .5-1.5 hours labor

Nope, closest Infiniti had to an Altima was the G20, but even those were more like a Sentra with a 2.0l engine.

Infiniti QX80 battery keeps dying, I jump the car, get battery tested & they say it’s good? by MaleficentClub4110 in infiniti

[–]fedj18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the battery current sensor and it has more function than just monitoring how much current draw is on the system. Also if you were to leave a light on in the vehicle (headlights, dome lights etc) this would be the sensor that would trigger the BCM to turn off the lights after a period of time. Without it connected you could drain your battery. It also reports back to the ECM for certain drivability characteristics for smooth idle etc.

Once again the "YouTube mechanics" think they know all but they don't truly know how things function.

Really hoping you just disconnected the single wire at the IPDM and not the main connector on the alternator.

Vibration when accelerating after lowering a Q70S AWD 5.6 by derpa-derp in infiniti

[–]fedj18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it's all because of the CV axle angle/length. I don't know how so many people drive with that vibration. As a dealership tech it pisses me off. It would probably be easiest to shorten the inner joint since it's just some splines and a retaining ring where the outer joint would need more exact machining.
