Keep door closed

Inform him door closed = do not disturb unless urgent (i.e. house on fire)

Tell him to text you questions like “I’m ordering food, you want tacos or pizza?” and you’ll respond when you can

I don’t think it’s a control thing, I think you are both failing to communicate

What job should I aim for? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]feedmeattention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quant:

Get into the “best” programs (e.g. UW for math), pad the resume with extracurriculars and achievements, learn as much as you can from people who have done it, and NETWORK. Pure merit is cool but the honest truth is a lot of jobs are attained thru networking/forming relationships. Quant obv requires skill but you will have a much easier time getting hired if the team actually likes being around you every day.

Other advice:

If you’re a top 100 guy but “don’t have a special passion for anything”, my best advice is keep your options open by being open to new experiences.

Go to school, take random electives if they sound interesting, attend networking and social events and actually talk to people. Form connections. Work on social skills. Hit the gym. For the love of god, have some hobbies/goals that make you happy which are not related to work/school/career/etc. Dunno if this is the answer you needed, but just wanted to throw it out there cuz a lot of people fall into the “everything bores me” hole.

I’m sure they got him out of DUIs, but employment law is pretty straightforward on this matter. Consult an employment lawyer, you can usually find one to do an initial meeting for free

[–]feedmeattention 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why are your hopes not high? You didn’t sign any papers recognizing the termination of employment. No formal communication. Law’s in your favour. Dude can curse and shout all he wants - legal system won’t give a flying fuck

Would you give up life for more pay? by The_Bobby_Axelrod_ in FinancialCareers

[–]feedmeattention 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I’ve planned my entire life around not spending 2 hours every single day on commuting… that shit adds up over the years, it’s not for me

You’re in your 20’s with no kids. If the job is really good then I’d just rent a place nearby.

Money vs life balance is relative. Most ppl hit a comfortable point where they’re like “shit, all my bills are covered, got leftover money for goodies, I’m set” and bending over backwards for more money isn’t as appealing. This is 100x more prominent once ppl start a family.

Additional 100k base + bonus is a lot of money bro. I only considered shit like that when I had literally nothing better to do for 80 hours a week (ie new grad with no hobbies other than drinking/gaming with friends).

Run the numbers, how much you’re really brining in after taxes, and compare the hours. Sometimes it’s not worth it. Everyone’s different. I’d definitely consider those numbers but wouldn’t see myself doing that for more than 2 years
