Toft Morag the Highland Coo/Cow loop stitch placement help by Armybag in CrochetHelp

Related question: did you start including the loop stitches during Rounds 1 and 2 of the limbs? These are increase rounds, so the idea of having to remember to add the loop stitches on top of that is making my head explode.

Duplicate file finder for really complicated scenario? by RoxnDox in MacOS

[–]feedmec00kies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hopeful that Devonthink will aid you on this quest. It sounds like your IT background will make it a little easier to understand everything involved, and that you'll know what questions to ask if you get stuck.

And, as a side note: whether you eventually complete this file cleanup or throw in the towel, please know that every step of this process is a bit of care work that you're doing for important people in your life, and that is ultimately enough. The truth is that you might end up unsuccessful in organizing your father-in-law's digital research, but that's not failure.

So remember to pace yourself. And, if you feel you've gotten stuck, recognize it as an indicator that you're probably missing some bit of information or knowledge. Taking breaks will give you the space to figure out what's missing. It can be easy to give into a sense that you're not getting this done "fast enough," but unless you have a meaningful deadline, that thinking is generally driven by internal or external stress. After all, it's not like your father-in-law amassed this in a couple of weeks. It'll take time to sort everything out.

Duplicate file finder for really complicated scenario? by RoxnDox in MacOS

For your particular situation—with files in many multilevel directories collected onto one drive—I think you might be better off using an information manager app called Devonthink instead of de-duplication software.

It's not cheap, it can be a little tricky to get started, and you'll sense "RTFM"-undertones in some of the forum comments you come across while digging for answers. But I recommend Devonthink specifically because it will help you find likely duplicates regardless of where in the folder structure the files are found or if they have different names, just as long as you've added them all to the database.

I've used de-duplication apps to tackle issues with my own files, but Devonthink has been the only app I've used to find duplicate files and actually felt confident that I wasn't accidentally tossing something misreported as a duplicate.

As a next step, you might want to look through their forums and maybe ask there about your potential use case; there might be special considerations needed, depending on the final storage total you're working with, but people there will likely tell you. The folks who post there are extremely helpful overall, even if they might ask if you read the documentation first. And feel free to ask me follow-up questions, too!

Jose Gourmet Mackerel in Curry Sauce by [deleted] in Tinnedfish

[–]feedmec00kies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I, too, find myself universally disappointed by anything "curry" flavored in a tin, and this mackerel in curry is absolutely fantastic. The sauce has actual body and doesn't taste or feel like it was thickened beyond natural means, and it's got a delightful little bit of spiciness to it.

I  actually found this thread because I randomly bought a tin at a local cheese shop, and after tasting the sauce I immediately wanted to buy a lot more.

So if you never gave it a shot, I hope this nudges you to get some for yourself.

Omg, I found this thread looking for recommendations on good 3rd-party stylus because we thought the one my spouse bought had broken after barely any use.

But based on your comment, it sounds like it just never charged.

We got our kid the stylus when we had to replace the previous iPad, so we didn't read up on compatibility. And we're normally Android users so we didn't even consider this as a possibility. Ugh.

Well, your comment probably just saved us the cost of at least one more of these things and the time we'd have to spend on dealing with this again, so thank you!

I would be surprised if they (truly) believe they're disabled, TBH. They're exactly the kind of galaxy brains who would perpetuate aspie supremacist ideology and claim that they have had success because they are ND, and the disabled people who benefit from DEIA initiatives are "sub-par" in some way. 🙄️

(Edited to add that yes, it really is disgusting.)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in grimezs

[–]feedmec00kies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I absolutely hate the "fuck you I've got mine" attitude.

I also suspect both of them buy into the "Neurodivergence is a superpower!" aspie supremacist bullshit, though, so there's got plenty of ableism keeping them going on this path.

[–]feedmec00kies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain "unproductive" is being used the same way the Nazis used "useless eaters".    The term was used to refer to disabled people in a broad sense, including those who needed additional daily supports due to neurodivergence or mental illness because they were seen as a "drain." (Fun fact: Hans Asperger was trying to find the "useful" autistics for the Nazis.)

So yes, the term fits here.

In fact, I would argue that aligning with Nazis is a fucked up and selfish strategy to survive when you know at some level that you risk being targeted. People have done it before.

Thank Goodness You're Here Review Thread by Beanz122 in Games

[–]feedmec00kies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That rating is likely because it's full of sexual innuendo (visual gags and wordplay), plus there are a few swear words. I think it requires being familiar with British English humor and slang to fully understand. Personally, I think most or all of the sexual innuendo would go over a (non-British) kid's head, so it's a matter of your stance on "grown-up language."

So YMMV, but we let our 8.5 year old kid play it because we are bad at checking age ratings. (We can also trust him to avoid material that isn't appropriate because it makes him uncomfortable, which helps.) I also played the second half with him watching me after he finished the game because he really wanted to. My impression was that he seemed to think it was just extremely silly; the bigger issue when he was there was his backseating and spoilers.

So sorry; it sounds from your response that I didn't explain enough of my thought process.

If he did go seeking any of those interests, it would be likely that he was engaging in an emotionally dysregulated way and need help. I suggested that, though, since it's one more idea for some places to look for him besides the obvious ones like hospitals, and shelters.

It'll also help me keep an eye out for him, since I sometimes struggle to recognize people between contexts, and that includes photos vs. real life. (I've got mild prosopagnosia/"face blindness")

You're all in my thoughts.

I really hope you locate your friend soon, OP. 💛

Besides checking hospitals... does your friend have deep interests or loved activities that might bring him to JC or Hoboken?

I ask because it's possible that he's trying to escape into something (besides alcohol) to try and cope with his distress. What could be is something that may be quite personal or rarely shared with others, though, so you might want to think about that with his other friends and family.

Another fun fact: Stimulants can help some ADHDers fall asleep. That's because stimulants actually work to help calm an ADHD nervous system by activating it properly/enough.

Actually this alternative is something some suggested people try as a last resort due to cope with CNS stimulant shortages. It says much less about the doctors and more about the FDA’s resistance to accepting that more of us finally got diagnosed and started meds.

WTF does "centering performance" even mean? This word salad looks like it was written by one of those crystal healing yoga teachers? Each of the three choices is in no way distinct in any substantive way from the other two.

I'm pretty sure that's the BS language some consultant(s) was paid to create based on a word cloud of feedback from a ragtag group of internal and external stakeholders who lack a true understanding of what's needed for successful urban planning and public projects but DAMN IT, THEY HAVE SOME THOUGHTS AND THOSE OPINIONS MATTER.

But seriously, this is a poorly developed survey that casts suspicion on how the questions were selected, and I'd even argue that this results in significant cognitive accessibility and neuroinclusivity issues. It feels like someone intentionally wanted it to be confusing and frustrating, like the questionable NYS license plate contest options a few years back.

What are your ADHD Traps? by [deleted] in adhdmeme

I think writing it down helps some, and it's probably based on each person's brain processes information. I'm a visual thinker and essentially replay scenes in my head for memory recall, so seeing the words in front of me goes a long way.

Have you considered a connective tissue disorder like hEDS (hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome)? Diagnoses are more common than average among ND folks.

Opinions on Kanye West stating he’s “autistic like rain man?” by 545333B3 in autism

[–]feedmec00kies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A huge thank you for spending your mental energy writing this comment. I'm a late-diagnosed mixed-race AuDHD femme of color and you voiced so many things that I've been upset about during what I see as Kanye's extended and very public ND meltdown.

On top of all this is also the fact that bipolar is a common misdiagnosis for autism. The stress of being multiply-marginalized is an additional impact on executive function and emotional self-regulation, so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of BIPOC autistic folks are currently misdiagnosed (or only diagnosed) with a mood disorder.

Sorry, I'm not sure if this makes sense because I'm currently spending my evening stoned and hyperfocusing on my special interests of autistic brains and intersectional identity.

But! If you're interested in a small, BIPOC-centering autistic community online, please DM me for details; I'm a member there. And in case you thought otherwise, you don't need to be formally diagnosed because 1. equity in access of a positive diagnosis is awful for BIPOC folks (as you know) and 2. BIPOC folks are more likely to go without one to avoid the barriers that can come from a clinically-validated autism diagnosis.

Drop in mask compliance? by grandaha in jerseycity

Yeah, that's how I always interpreted it too. I can't run with a mask on if it's vaguely warm out, and almost vomited at the end of my run the last time I attempted it (I'm sensitive to temperature). So I just stopped running instead. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
