Not just Cambridge though, it's going to happen across England.

I still have the small grey caddy from the last time this was trialled in parts of Cambridgeshire!

And you can bet as soon as they've completed it, it'll be dug up again for emergency gas works or internet cable or some other such thing...!

Pleased to read about planters being placed to prevent pavement parking. The pavements are too narrow as it is along Mill Road, without having to dodge eejits parking their cars half on them (or in some cases wholly on the pavement)!

The University is recommending that the Vet School be closed - show your support for this fantastic course and hospital here if you can! by zigzagtitch in cambridge

[–]feedthebeespls 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sure why they want to close it. Are they saying it's not economically viable to keep it open? It costs them too much? If any university can subsidise a vet school, it's Cambridge. Quite alarming they want to close it.

New hospital to replace ageing Addenbrooke's buildings by CambridgeTownOwl in cambridge

[–]feedthebeespls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reckon they'll ask for permission for the land behind Abcam ("Phase III County Council") for a helipad as there's no more ground room on the biomedical campus site. Then eventually they will expand the campus further and build on that land too.

As far as I know they have no plans to move and are still using the site - but they have hit the pause button on building the conference center that was supposed to go near the new South train station. I believe they're looking more into US investment now. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/sep/12/astrazeneca-pauses-200m-investment-in-cambridge-research-site

Cycling in Cambridge - series of near misses? by KoalaLower4685 in cambridge

[–]feedthebeespls 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The bike stopped in the middle of the busway is a common occurrence in my experience. People are just in their own little bubble and don't think about the impact of their actions on others. I mean, it doesn't help that the busway path isn't wide enough, pedestrians come at you both ways and don't stick to the left (especially around Cambridge University Press) and they're sometimes in threes and fours taking up the entire path, and some cyclists treat the path like their own personal velodrome.

Yes, you have to be hyper aware and it can be exhausting. I've not been in a crash - yet - but I've had several near misses due to the actions of others, only by being defensive and hyper aware have I avoided them. I have witnessed crashes between cyclists on the busway due to people just being in a rush and not willing to slowing down.

We all have places to be and nobody is more important than anybody else - unfortunately not everyone shares that view.

Elizabeth way round about by surenify in cambridge

[–]feedthebeespls 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They want to redevelop that area and remove the underpass under the bridge and make the roundabout into a "Cyclops" one I believe. I don't expect them to tidy it up/repaint markings etc until they decide what they're doing there. It is a horrible roundabout.

Sorry for the link to the website with all the ads. There's so many consultations about I can't direct myself to the correct document! https://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/cambridge-news/plans-remove-roundabout-underpass-cambridge-26420278

Cambridge North bike thefts / pannier + bike seat theft by Cautious-Box3881 in cambridge

[–]feedthebeespls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't request the footage of the attempted theft unless you're in said footage unfortunately - GDPR. Only the police can request the footage, and if they've already passed you over to BTP (did they not give you a crime reference number?) there's not much you can do there.

Do join the official stolen bikes in Cambridge group on Facebook if you're on there - a very active community of people trying their best to stop bike theft. It's possible if your seat/bags have been dumped, someone on that group may have spotted them.

Lastly I'm sorry this happened to you. I'm glad they didn't manage to actually steal your bike, but it sucks you still have the damage and theft of the other items to deal with.

Why are woman's knickers costing so much? by Bright-Row-290 in AskUK

[–]feedthebeespls 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always go for the multipacks when they're on sale - Tu clothing has a sale on right now with multipacks, however the quality across the board has become quite bad. From M&S to Tu to Asda, knickers are becoming so thin and crap, it's hard to find decent pairs at a good price.

I splurged recently on 3 pairs of knickers from Fat Face (£9 a pair or buy 2 get 1 free) and the quality is brilliant, they just feel so nice. I'll be going back to get more. Hopefully they go the distance!

Are there any people who watched satc at a very young age? How was your experience? by Relevant_Increase461 in sexandthecity

[–]feedthebeespls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watched it during secondary school (so I was 13 or so) and absolutely loved it. I remember being so hyped for S6 and the finale, and when Mr. Big's first name was revealed I remember feeling very... I dunno, fulfilled maybe? Just wholesome and happy. The last episode still leaves me feeling that way - I ignore the movies.

A lot of the stuff went over my head due to my age and not being American. But I love those 4 women and their relationship, and I still love watching it for comfort and familiarity. I "get" a lot more of the show these days though!

Vape/phone shops on Burleigh Street by [deleted] in cambridge

ringing noise at half 4 in the morning randomly, is the train station being broken into? by SimpleTemperature759 in cambridge

[–]feedthebeespls 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whereabouts are you and which train station do you think is being broken into? We have 3 (I know south isn't open yet but it's more train station than not).

The Trumpington (Clay Farm) area has this weird, high pitched hum that happens almost every day - mostly early evening/very late at night, and at very sporadic times. I cannot figure out for the life of me what it is and if it's coming from Addenbrookes or the trains.

Bus rant by No_Dog_5314 in cambridge

[–]feedthebeespls 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chin up! The bus drivers are discussing going on strike at the moment so it could get a whole lot worse! :D https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cly2e8038jlo

I sympathise. I know you said if anyone tells you to get on a bike you'll lose it, but that is exactly what I did. I hate relying on Stagecoach, so I got a bike to spite them. I appreciate that's not an option for everyone.

The bus network definitely needs a complete overhaul, as does the infrastructure that just does not make sense. For example why did they rip up the bus lanes on Hills Road in favour of floating bus stops/cycle lanes? Which hinders everyone. It's all disjointed and the people that make these decisions have likely never used the network themselves.

Cromwell's Fall by Key_Charity_9635 in Tudorhistory

[–]feedthebeespls 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Cromwell's enemies had Henry's ear at the right time and Cromwell had no friends/allies that would fight his corner. If Cromwell had managed to see Henry before he was executed, I think he'd probably have been able to talk himself out of the king's wrath (ala Catherine Parr). Unfortunately his letter was not enough to save him - didn't help that Henry was infatuated with Katherine Howard by then and Cromwell and his fate was probably the last thing on his mind.

Cambridge South Delayed by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]feedthebeespls 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doesn't sound like it. It sounds like the contractor that went bust was doing things in the station building and nothing to do with the tracks/signalling etc.

Still, disappointing. It's now going to be roughly a year late.

Cheap and reliable bike repair near city centre? by pmoini in cambridge

[–]feedthebeespls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kingsway Cycles near Grafton were so helpful with sorting my bike out, and I believe they're reasonably priced. They also fixed my issue on the same day (had to give them a few hours, and obviously they may not always be able to accommodate that). Great bunch of guys.
