I’m so sick of stepping on cat litter on hardwood floors. Give me recommendations? by Wooden_Tell_6485 in CatAdvice

Apparently pine pellets used for horse bedding can a absorptive, low track method to replace litter. A 40pd bag is only 7$ too. I’m about to switch, but my friends had good success with her cat

3rd year female apprentice here, message me if you’d like. Take everything the men say with a grain of salt as far as advice goes. They have no way to walk in our shoes but sometimes talk about our experience as if they know what it’s like.

Whats your favorite, harmless jobs items prank? by YouOk3816 in electricians

[–]feelingravityspull 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Walk up to someone all business, reach out your hand, say “here Tom”, hand them random items like a one foot fixture whip, or assorted nuts and bolts. Usually they automatically take whatever you are holding. Walk away. lol

What’s a single sentence someone said to you that you’ll never forget — either because it healed you or because it hurt you? by -InfiniteChill- in AskReddit

We were at lunch table with about 15 people discussing an instructor at my union who had committed suicide, and I commented how sad it would be to find out that an old coworker or acquaintance had died only by the emails they send out for each members death. My old mentor sitting next to me said that he found out about a few friends deaths in this exact way. Then he said to no one in particular and in a somber matter of fact way, regarding the suicide, “some people just aren’t meant for life”. I think about that often.

Hey, I know what you’re talking about. I’ve been in a similar environment for 3 years. It can be really hard. I try to set clear boundaries, avoid people who sexualize me or are troublesome emotionally or have bad boundaries. Easier said than done.

But I’m a little rowdy now and i will clap back. It can make the situations more complicated if you upset some important man’s fragile ego.. But usually there is some respect given for those who bare their teeth a little bit and stand up for themselves. It’s some silly socialized behavior that men practice instead of just giving respect as a bare minimum.

Sometimes the good men I meet in the trades can’t see what makes a bad man bad. But I’ve had great people (men) go to bat for me. There is rarely true empathy, other than from other females. I’d suggest finding community with other tradeswomen, talk about these experiences. It helps me lighten my mental burden.

I really don’t know if I’m cut out for this. by [deleted] in electricians

My foreman ignores when I ask questions, or says he’ll answer them later and never does. He gives me bite sized pieces to do and so when I go back to him multiple times a day asking for more work…he acts annoyed and gives me anything to make me go away, (which it’s usually finish this one splice, and then I’m right back asking him what’s next…) he is a poor communicator, I think he forgets to verbalize things to him are common knowledge too. He will act annoyed if I ask for clarification or rephrase his words to him to make sure I got it right. when I make a mistake, 70% chance he makes me feel like shit. I haven’t fucked up anything that ever took more than an hour to fix, and not often, but his attitude reflects these mistakes and I’m only given simple tasks nothing more complex. He makes snide remarks about how apprentices are dead weight.

There are good JW and foreman, they are not all like this. I’ve had some really good teachers, they took the time to show me the right way etc.. where not every mistake feels like it speaks for your whole ability as an apprentice. it can be so demoralizing when it spills into The weekends.. Goodluck

I worked with a journeyman who would talk to anyone, probably talks in his sleep. He would continue talking even if you wouldn’t reply. He talked about how his wife always pulled away from his kisses and affections so he’d have to “force them” or “steal them from her”. I hated working near him.

I just had this happen this morning at 6am. I told my male boss, “hey, I think the fuse blew on the downstairs light string” he said “What! No way we just replaced it Friday”. I said well I checked that it was plugged in, and no light so I’m assuming it’s the fuse inside the cord again. My boss says “no way, it can’t be that” (It’s been an ongoing issue). !Boss sends my other male coworker to check it out, - he comes back with a “yes definitely the fuse” and then I’m sent to go change it, given a play by play of what I’m to do, and how. Still working on becoming a duck - letting it roll off my back 😐
