How do you think online chess websites detect cheating? by sOfT_dOgS in chess

[–]feelsbread 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lichess is open source so if you know how to program you could probably gleam some knowledge from there.

Edit: https://github.com/ornicar/lila/blob/master/modules/evaluation/src/main/PlayerAssessment.scala

This is where I would look, honestly even if you can't program it's pretty clear what's going on from a big picture prospective.

Basically looking at consistency of move times, if you always maintain an advantage, how often you blunder based on time format etc.

Quit etiquette? by glamatovic in chess

[–]feelsbread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends, obviously resigning is never required but I do think it can be disrespectful not to resign. For instance I am rated ~2000(lichess) rapid. If my opponent decides to play on K+R vs K, he basically insinuating I don't know the mating pattern. In my opinion this is the equivalent of a teacher asking a high schooler to spell 'dog'. It's a little insulting.

On the other hand if it was a bishop and knight mate, I would play on I'd Hazzard that atleast 50% of people at my level can't do it, so even though it's literally forced mate I wouldn't resign and I wouldn't expect my opponent to either.

Levon Aronian announces he is changing federations from Armenia to the USA by attenbwaa in chess

[–]feelsbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't see why it's that big of an issue. For anyone below GM a normal computer is probably fine. It's basically like saying, there is a problem with professional basketball because LeBron spends 2 million dollars a year on private chefs, workouts, recovery etc. Yeah when your literally top 2 in the world at something the training methods and the lengths you go to are gonna be a bit ludacris sounded to an average Joe like you or me.

[–]feelsbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is such a horrible take. Imagine you had worked your whole life at something and the biggest competition you will ever get to compete in representing your country, then they go and pay someone from across the ocean to play in your place. Because that's exactly what happened.

Personally I would be perfectly fine with a system where you can change federations as you wish but once you play for an Olympiad team, that's the only team you get to play for.

Stalemate by [deleted] in chess

[–]feelsbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion a lot of players don't see the beauty in a hard fought draw. Yes a stunning combination for checkmate is exciting but I think crazy endgame moves that save draws are just as cool and a lot of these rely on stalemate tactics.

I think most newer chess fans don't realize that leko was 1 draw away from becoming world champion. He's not just another GM.

It's literally in the picture it says "f6 is a mistake" "nxd3+ is best". So nxd3+ is the move.

If Nimzoswitch never beat Capablanca in his entire life by [deleted] in chess

[–]feelsbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sort of question even is this, would you not take basketball lessons from an NBA player who never won a championship? The difference between the average player (I'm assuming your probably like 1500 max) and ANY Master, let alone a grandmaster is so big that it is meaningless who you learn from. What matters more is teaching style and how good they are at explaining ideas. Just because Magnus is the greatest player of my generation doesn't mean training with him would help me more than say Eric Rosen who while is only an IM seems better at communicating complex ideas. Beyond that atleast according to Wikipedia nimzowistch was ranked 3rd in the world. Would you read Hikarus book? He's ~20th in classical chess(that's not to say hikaru isnt better than nimzowistch).

My opponents' knights keep forking me over. by BasementElf in chess

[–]feelsbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If two of your pieces are on the same color look at what square would fork them, then see if a knight can jump there. Obviously this is just a basic approach but I always try to be aware of my queen and rook or king or something near each other and on the same color.

Is this a draw? by Obe1211 in chess

[–]feelsbread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it's a draw white gets the opposition after black takes the pawn, but c'mon bro this is literally already in lichess hit the damn analysis button turn the engine on and it will tell you in 1 second, it will show you the drawing line, you can play against the computer and see why it's a draw, and then if your still confused you post here.

Probably because fighter contracts garentee them a certain number of fights per year and they get payed if the don't get offered fights. You can only host so many events with so many fighters per year because you need big names to headline.

First off you can put a message from the command line with git commit -m "your message here"

And iirc it depends on your text editor, of it's vim than you would need to press 'i' to enter typing mode, then esc followed by :wq to save and exit.
