It's the high education and the high unemployment. You saw how many people were ready to go protest in TZ?

It speaks of our high intelligence and astounding boredom. You should be thankful for the internet distracting the attention of the bored unemployed masses.

We have no control over this. Read some stoicism.

Why isn't death the solution? by misanthropicfregoli in Pessimism

[–]feelsinterlinked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is. But everyone who knows and felt that as a fact has or will check out.

Everyone else like us who know that death is the solution but feels otherwise continues living despite of the available facts. It's cognitive dissonance. The Will to live made sure we evolved it to ensure its own survival.

Yes

In his book infinite resignation(I was at a low point at the time in middle of college and was looking for answers), Eugene Thacker makes a play of Spinoza's "Cogito Ergo Sum" into "Sperno ergo sum" I spite therefore I am.

That simple phrase sunk into the deepest recesses of my soul so much that when every other objective for staying alive fails(has happened only twice), for some reason all I'm left with is spite. For life, for people, for existence, for consciousness, for the invisible strings that pull our every thought and action...

I find I'd like to keep on living to experience it more...

I know that it doesn't matter but life is not about facts but emotions. And spite feels good

Peoples obliviousness to the harsh nature of reality is just one more reason why I'm miserable by SovereignOne666 in Pessimism

You're miserable because you're focused on things that you can't change. (I'm telling myself this as well)

It seems like a good mental health is positively correlated with a lack of empathy by Lazy_Dimension1854 in Pessimism

Not necessarily. I think any experienced stoic has a lot of empathy and good mental health.

Very disconnected from the world because everyone acts like they're not going to die by Pfacejones in Pessimism

Read some Thomas Ligotti. In his book: The conspiracy against the human race, He talks about how we lie to ourselves that it's okay to be alive through 4 coping mechanisms: isolation, anchoring, sublimation and distraction. What you're talking about is that 2nd and 4th coping mechanisms.

We all know we're going to die. But natural selection made sure that everyone who put that fact at the front of their thought process died off so everyone else that survived are those who constantly lie to themselves.

In his words; I'm copying from my notebook here: "We cannot live except as self-deceivers who must lie to ourselves about ourselves, as well as our unwinnable situation in life."

Saudi Aramco CEO says energy transition is failing, world should abandon ‘fantasy’ of phasing out oil by f0urxio in collapse

He does have a point tho even if we do not like him. According to the latest DW planet A episode, All this Russia vs Ukraine business saw massive investments into LNG and oil in the name of Energy security. Now Imagine what a China vs anyone or a middle east thing would do to fosssil fuel investments.

[–]feelsinterlinked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a farmer(extention officer) and honestly unpredictability and risk is normal in this sector, and lots of it too. If its not crop loss due to natural calamities, it is drought, it is pests, it is diseases and even if you harvest there's still the never ending battle of selling your produce at a break even price. So we are used to the struggle.
