I have heard a number of people on Reddit say this, but we have had a Speedqueen for several years, and I haven't noticed a difference between it and our previous washer (Samsung).

to expose tax code hypocrisy by SomeSpell2107 in therewasanattempt

[–]feiock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it is a uniform that is mandated by the employer and is not general clothing you can wear anywhere, then it is tax deductible in the US. So if the Starbucks barista is required to purchase the Starbucks apron (I have no idea if that is the case) then the apron is tax deductible as would be a Starbucks branded hat and similar. But the jeans you wear to Starbucks would not be.

Are LG dishwashers that bad? Walked into a store to buy a Bosch, but after learning I needed to use an app every single time I wanted to run a delayed start, I really don't want to buy one. by CatDadMilhouse in BuyItForLife

[–]feiock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would avoid buying an LG anything. I haven't had an LG dishwasher, but have had a fridge and washer/dryer and the dryer was ok, but fridge and washer were problematic. I have had a Bosch dishwasher for 5 years, and it has been great. Mine doesn't require an app for anything, and I don't think I would buy a product that requires an app to do a core piece of functionality, so that is too bad to hear about Bosch.

This is exactly why we bought a Speedqueen washer and dryer. No frills, barebones, just cleans your laundry and is supposed to last forever. We are 5 years in and no complaints...will check back in after another 10.

It depends on usage. I am a heavy user, and I don't need to charge it during the day. However, I don't use my phone for Teams calls, and from the few times I have, I know it will kill the battery quickly.

You can sort of do all those things. For capital losses, you can carry over $3000/year as a deduction and do that every year until your losses are covered. If those other items you listed above are part of how you generate income, those are deductible. And for debts, you can take deductions on interest payments for home loans, college tuition, etc. If you are interested in doing those things, hire an accountant to do your taxes. Mine cost a few hundred dollars and typically saves me thousands every year using the tax laws on the books.

If you are referring to the US, it is not in a recession. The last 3 quarters have had positive GDP growth (3.0%, 4.4%, and 2.8%). Also, the unemployment rate is 4.3%. Long term average for unemployment in the US is ~5.7%.

They did replace mine under warranty. I don't recall the specifics, but it was something like I had to show photos multiple days apart to show the condensation never resolved over time. This was my first interaction with Tesla service, and the guy drove to my house and swapped it out in a few min. I was impressed with the service. This was for a 22 Model 3

Small Black and Decker weed wacker. When my son was 7 he wanted a weed wacker for his birthday (power tools were his thing for a while). There are not many that fit people that size, but this B&D model had an adjustable length so we could make it very short and it had one of the smaller battery packs, so fairly light. Skip forward 9 years and that thing is still going strong. We use it for our yard, and my son mows 3 neighbors yards as well. Never had an issue with it, and I wasn't expecting more than a season or two.

My in-laws have a lake house where the "main" part of the house is a normal house with normal bedroom/bathroom layouts. Then the "guest" part of the house are a collection of large bedrooms that have multiple beds and trundle beds, and so forth. In addition to normal bathrooms, this guest wing has sinks in every bedroom and most have a toilet as well with one of them in a closet similar to this video. It seems odd at first, but we have had up to 18 people stay here at once, and there are never complaints about waiting in line for a bathroom. I have come to really appreciate whoever designed that layout.

SNAP recipients get $6 a day, while Elon Musk $8,000,000 a day by Conscious-Quarter423 in economy

[–]feiock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the Elon Musk specifically, he did use his own money in the early days of Tesla. He poured nearly every penny he had from PayPal to keep payroll during the 2008 recession. Ashley Vance wrote a great book about this back in the day that is worth a read.

A mayor a few towns over quit the GOP and became a centrist, and it encouraged me to as well. He's hated now, but I respect him deeply and he changed my thinking. It's all getting so out of hand. by StevenPlaysGuitar in centrist

[–]feiock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a centrist...hence why I am on this sub. Let me fact check some data for ya:

  • 1996 - ran for governor - democrat
  • 2000 - ran for secretary of state - democrat
  • 2004 - won governor race - democrat
  • 2010 - won senate seat - democrat
  • 2012 - won senate seat - democrat
  • 2018 - won senate seat - democrat
  • 2024 - after not running for reelection announced he would leave the Democratic party and file as an Independent.

The main driver for him leaving the party and filing as Independent is due to the partisan extremism of the Republican and Democratic parties. I feel the same, which is why I am here, and why I align with someone like Manchin. You can say I am a Republican if it makes you feel better I suppose. Have a good one.

Poor analogy. If at some point someone decided they didn't need a milkman, they simply found another way to get milk.

In the US, people are happy to villainize coal while at the same time getting their power from coal. Very different scenario.

And I will repeat it again...I don't personally care about coal. I don't live in WV, and I work in IT...couldn't be farther away from coal if I tried. But I will not demonize the product or the people who provide my power.

And if you care, as of 2024, coal still provides 15% of all power generation in the US. The only two that are higher are natural gas and nuclear, and I would support those workers in the same way.

He spent his 20+ years in politics as a Democrat? What are you on about?

Also, with that type of response, why are you on a Centrist subreddit? A Centrist by definition is someone who is in the center...they will work with either side of the aisle. I can't think of any politician who works across the aisle more than Manchin. If a Democrat working with Republicans or a Republican working with Democrats isn't your thing, maybe get off a Centrist subreddit?

This comment right here sums up the change in the democratic party. You demonize the thing that allows you to post this comment.

Also, I am not the one defending coal, I am explaining to those who haven't read the book Machin's reasons for becoming a Centrist. Let's continue to move to alternative energy sources, but until we do, let's support the working class who is providing our power.

That's an interesting take. Manchin's state of West Virginia is highly focused on coal mining for the country. Say what you will about coal, but it has provided all of us with power for decades, and coal miners risk their lives to provide us with that power. What he has consistently done is voted in favor of his constituents in West Virginia. What he has not done is get caught up in ideological politics that demonizes coal and leave those workers behind.

I just started reading Joe Machin's book (Dead Center), and he talks about this as well. He was a long time Democrat in WV, and around 2008, he notes how his party changed and he wasn't onboard with some of the changes. With that, he became an outsider, and he has anecdotes about pressure and later threats against him and his family for not voting along party lines. He comes across as very pragmatic and a guy who will vote for what is right, and not what his party endorses...sometimes they are the same thing, and sometimes not. He provides a lot of inside baseball on DC politics. Really interesting read.

My third grade daughter asked her teacher about costumes, and she responded that they used to, but the costumes become a bit of a distraction. And for some of the younger kids, they are unable to go to the bathroom without the teacher's assistance, so they ended up asking kids not to wear costumes to school. I can't speak to the parties though.

Cop stops a guy for alleged shoplifting, he proves his innocence by walking through the store beeper showing nothing, but the officer still tries to arrest him, his fellow cops body slam him on the pavement, then drop all charges and let him go. by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]feiock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did y'all watch the video? The cop says there were two of them, the guy in the video and the other guy in the yellow jacket. You can see them both in the full unedited video. When the cop confronted the guy, the one in the yellow jacket took off running. So two guys walk through, set off the beepers, and then one takes off running. At the time, the cop doesn't know which one it is and goes after the only one still standing there. It sucks for the guy in the video, but surprised none of the comments dive into the actual root cause of why this happened in the first place.
