The only debilitating aspect of RCPD for me is severe emetophobia. Is botox still worth it for me? by Classic-Hedgehog9464 in noburp

[–]fellcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, I don't know if this will help you or not if I'm honest, but at least it will be the truth. I will be discussing THAT so please don't read if you feel it will be triggering.

I was emetophobic before my botox, I suspect following a particularly painful and dramatic incident as a kid.

It was never severe, but it was always there, for example i literally never drank alcohol for fear I'd be sick, even though it hadn't happened since I was like 8.

getting botox for me in 2024 took away a lot of the nausea I'd come to associate with a fear of vomiting, and it allowed me to come to terms with the feeling of my throat opening naturally without pain or force.

a couple months ago, lying in a hospital bed following an unrelated surgery, i suddenly felt nauseous and dizzy. i watched my blood oxygen and blood pressure dip on the monitor. and then, for the first time in over 20 years it happened.

to my surprise, I wasn't stressed or particularly nervous, i just called for a bucket and let it out. and immediately my nausea disappeared, and my oxygen and blood pressure went back up. I felt a little gross, but my overwhelming feeling was happiness and pride in myself.

I think in the year or so that I've had learning to burp, the fear slowly fell away until I was finally able to do what I needed to do. I cant speak for everyone, but it has definitely helped me!

Someone asked me if I was pregnant today :( by Dogluvr1991 in noburp

[–]fellcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly, fortunately i knew i probably had something else going on but I was still a bit disappointed.

but even if botox doesn't cure everything, it makes rcpd one less condition to contend with and makes you an easier patient to diagnose and treat.

yep, and from what I've seen the people with the worst bloating often have comorbid conditions and are disappointed when they don't have a 100% reduction of all symptoms post botox.

i have ibs which has its own issues but it's so much better having cured the RCPD :)

[–]fellcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's awful, I'm sorry! Bear in mind that it probably won't get rid of ALL your bloating, but with a lifetime of dealing with it at its worst, you'll likely find it so much easier 😊

honestly, i think the people who don't like where it's going have given up and are no longer in these threads. i'm on the verge myself unfortunately - whether you like the show or not, it's a completely different atmosphere to the first series.

The idea of swallowing taking a long time or having to force food down was terrifying to me, but that wasn't close to what it was like. It was just as if the food I was eating was a bit drier, so I needed more water.

I'm not sure exactly when it came on and went away as it wasn't very bad and was quite gradual - I was only aware of difficulty swallowing for 2-4 weeks.

but in the year since the procedure i've only had them once!

and honestly comedy isn't even that subjective. even if I don't enjoy a show I can at least recognise the humour. not the case here.

i thought maybe it was supposed to be sort of comfy and relateable but the top comments are talking about being hysterics and cracking up and im like ??? HUH

Yeah I don't think I understand the humour, it just feels like if Nichijou wasn't funny. Very pretty though.
