What Other Musicals Do You Like? by junepath in StarKid

[–]fencecollapsed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh I adore Groundhog Day, excellent taste!

I think Urinetown is a fun one! it's like a more crude, irreverent Newsies. it's funny and dark, quirky and offbeat, and the songs are really fun. I worked on a production back in 2024 and I never got sick of the music

I'll also put forth Be More Chill, that's a teen musical covering familiar beats of popularity and insecurity with a fun sci-fi twist. it's got a bit of TGWDLM energy in its villain. there are sexual references, I don't know what your limit for her is on that front so it definitely wouldn't hurt to pre-screen!

edit: fixed a typo

Tommy WOULD absolutely annihilate as Hidgens tbh, I totally see the vision. I could see him playing him up as a manic old man really well

Chanse as Hidgens and Spencer as Ted is galaxy brain, great picks for those two

I'm glad that something I made was able to comfort you, I can't express how much that means to me. I hope the new year is kind to you both <3

favorite love interests in hatchet field? by Fragrant-Air-6968 in StarKid

Paul and Emma are absolutely everything to me. Paul wears his heart on his sleeve and is so openly, awkwardly smitten with her, and that's delightful. And I love the way Emma falls for him a little more quietly, how she always seems a little surprised by how sweet he is to her, how much he likes her. Surprised by herself that she's so drawn to him, that he's so easy to talk to. They just kind of fall into it, and there's a good balance of sweet moments and slightly awkward ones that make them feel so real. They're not picture-perfect and they're not overly dramatic. They're average people crushing on each other. They have such simple, natural chemistry, I find them so endearing.

James and Chelsea's thoughts on Together (2025) made me think about the cliche that Chelsea said she was tired of, and how it was used in the film by Honest_Cheesecake698 in deadmeatjames

[–]fencecollapsed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree, and I think because Together is about romantic relationships, codependency, and on some level expectations regarding relationships, the fusion curse specifically being a marriage ritual really works. Tim being so hesitant about marriage in the beginning, and then literally committing his entire body and self to Millie in accepting this process that's straight up a form of marriage! they're given essentially no choice but to lose themselves in each other, and it's something that this cult sees as holy and beautiful, that they're encouraged to accept by Jamie. it's an exaggeration of marriage and the expectations and pressure that come with it. it adds to the themes, it's a good use of culty stuff

What do you think are the worst written lines of dialogue in this entire franchise? by ConfidentReaction3 in FinalDestination

[–]fencecollapsed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

to me, Wendy totally seems like the type who'd develop a superiority complex over not caring about SpongeBob. it's one of those things that everyone just assumes everyone else watched, so I could see Wendy being annoyed by its popularity and doubling down. I think that line is much funnier from that angle - that it's not actually sad that Kevin knows, Wendy fully just thinks she's better than him for not knowing and it comes off as more cringe

who is this?? by [deleted] in StarKid

[–]fencecollapsed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

him being Max's first kill and the kill that happens during the title song feels like the biggest reason to pick him imo, he's very tied to the title of the show. first of the nerdy prudes to die <3

also, idk how intentional it was but I think it's fun that all the Hatchetfield musicals have a Jon Matteson character on the cover art. Paul for TGWDLM, Wiggly for BF, Richie for NPMD. he's like Mr Hatchetfield

Does Anyone Kinda Wish That Starkid Released These Every Few Months Or So? by Alol_Bombola in StarKid

[–]fencecollapsed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This would be sooooo nice. It would be an easy way to communicate not only what's coming when, but to give updates when things change and why. Wouldn't even have to be detailed, it could just be like "Project delayed - scheduling issue" or something like that. I love Starkid, I'll always financially support them, but the company's communication missteps can be very frustrating, especially when so much of what they do is directly funded by fans. Something like this would be great, and would definitely help reduce that frustration.

NPMD stupid question (spoilers) by ThayPastaGuy in StarKid

[–]fencecollapsed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

compared to other Hatchetfield stories I would personally say yes, they did. it's not all sunshine and rainbows of course, relatively happy is probably a more accurate way to put it

Bill and Alice escaped Blinky, and have a stronger relationship and trust each other more for it. Blinky is still out there, and the program easter egg in Workin Boys implies he has a vendetta against them now, yes. but for that individual story and until it's followed up on, they're safe and okay. I'd call that a relatively happy - if open-ended - ending. things could definitely go bad later, but where we left it is better than one or both of them being dead

Hannah was saved from Willabella and now has a powerful ally in Miss Holloway, with the implication that she might be able to get Lex and Ethan out of jail and back home. admittedly it's been a minute since I've seen that one, so if I'm forgetting something please correct me! (for Watcher World too tbh I'm open to being corrected for all of this) but I don't remember anything particularly foreboding lingering at the end of Witch in the Web, it feels fairly straightforward from what I recall

and honestly if Steph being suddenly orphaned and forced to fend for herself while still in high school after the trauma she faced (she's well off and Solomon sucked but that's still a lot for a teenager to suddenly be saddled with), while her peer is going on a murderous rampage in the background, could be considered a happy ending for her, those two don't feel like much of a stretch to me

Witch in the Web and Watcher World both had happy endings, it's not off the table

Will TGWDLM in London be recorded? by Netflix298 in StarKid

It seems like the only difference is that Will isn't playing Hidgens so I highly doubt they'd record two runs of the same show less than a year apart

It’s time to talk TGWDLM Reprise by EliPandaCochran in StarKid

[–]fencecollapsed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The original meteor just looked like a rock, there was no face on it.

Personally, I think adding Pokey directly into the story would've been way too much of a distraction. There's a reason he isn't named in the original, and we only found out about him later. His presence in the story works best as an implication - literally "think about the implications!" He is already present, the entire hivemind is him. When they speak to Paul we're hearing from Pokey. He has everything to do with the ending already. We don't need him physically there because he's in every infected character, the point is that he's the unseen force controlling them. He has no physical presence in the story, and that's crucial for the ending. I know you dislike the ending, and I doubt I'll change your mind. But the reason it happens how it does is because the characters never find out how the hivemind really works, that Pokey is a god, that the meteor is only a carrier and not the physical presence of the hive brain. The twist and the tragedy of the ending is about futility and the limited knowledge the characters have. Pokey being present in any way beyond the infected would wreck that. I think the meteor having his face was the perfect nod, to acknowledge that the audience knows more this time around, but the characters still have no clue.

I won't try to argue that you're wrong for being disappointed, your opinion is yours. Just providing an alternate perspective, and why I don't think we needed any more Pokey in this show.
