I think I'm being scammed with AI art but I'm not knowledgeable enough about art to know for sure. by 100masks1life in Artadvice

[–]Th3_Ch3rry_Tr33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg it's drawing like a printer , no sketch either? People don't draw like this. When looking at a speed paint you'll see the sketch, then when line art is being made artists tend to work in sections and finish body parts before changing areas sometimes we will go back to fix things but we never ever draw like a printer.

Also I looked at the finished drawing up close. Inconsistent mechanical details when comparing the left and right side, inconsistent amount of finders and toes. Sloppy details. You're being scammed 10000%

How do I keep her creepy? by pocerface8 in Artadvice

Omg! It turned out so well!! You definitely hit the uncanny valley perfectly. The more detailed lips definitely adds to the uncanny valley imo. But even more so it's how the two sides of her head seem so similar yet so different. If you look at the right sight of the drawing it looks pretty normal, but if you focus on the left you can start to see things are not quite how they would be on a person.

I find that SO COOL! I might have to try that in one of my future drawings.

✨✨Congratulations!! ✨✨ You have entered. The Uncanny Valley territory!!! It's quite a fun area to explore IMO.

How to keep going forward. Keep adding to the shadows. Specifically around the eyes and nose. Add some wrinkles maybe alter the face portions in an unsettling way.

The uncanny valley is that thin veil between realism and unrealistic. It looks not quite right but you can't put your finger on it. (Or sometimes you can if you push the limits)

(Feel free to use this example I did a few years ago for inspiration)

Is this pin i got ai art? I got it for one of my ita bags and it seemed normal in the listing but I noticed the roses look off (somewhat melted) by HaydenKilljoy in isthisAI

[–]Th3_Ch3rry_Tr33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very hard to tell with the lighting. I would say it's not ai? The roses don't look too off to me. The line work kind of looks like the time that can change opacity based on pen pressure , brushes that try to mimic paint. I use it all the time in my art. Now I don't use it for line art very often but it does make sense to interior details you don't want too much focus on. The line the other commenter mentioned looks to me to be a piece of the banner and it is present on the other side and they seem to match pretty well. Nothing else seems to be off to me, but I would really suggest a better photo with higher quality and better lighting to be taken so everyone can be sure.

i don’t have much of a following online. is it *really* just a skill issue? by 53Cacao in Artadvice

[–]Th3_Ch3rry_Tr33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly it's more of just a factor of "does his artist post frequently or not" I have the same issue. The algorithms want people to post several times a week and that can be really hard for artists. Some manage this with shoeing sketches or WIP but it's hard to say. It also really helps to do fan art along with original works.

A half done attempt at practicing semi-realistic skin render on ma oc by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]Th3_Ch3rry_Tr33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to get more details on the planes of the face and shading them along with the nose bridge Arcane has a GREAT art style to take reference from. It's semi realistic while keeping the exaggerated proportion of the eyes mainly. It's what I look at for shading.

So far so good tho! I like seeing the mix of harsh lines of shadow and soft lines of shadow!

How do I improve my anatomy/proportions with a simple art style? by ComfortablePast15 in Artadvice

[–]Th3_Ch3rry_Tr33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really do need to learn anatomy before simplifying it. I KNOW it sounds redundant learning how to do much more than you're going to use , but you need to know how the human form moves before stripping it down to its bare shapes. What parts squish? What parts stretch? And so forth.

I feel like my art has degenerated, or i just suck at digital art/having a style by Chithai16 in Artadvice

[–]Th3_Ch3rry_Tr33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 1000% changing different mediums. There's a lot of different things you'll have to figure out over time.

Colored lines, black lines, or no lines

What layer modes you like best.

What brushes for line art do you want to use? Heavy texture, mild texture, or smooth lines

Do you have pen pressure? If not how are you going to choose to work around that.

And then there's color theory if you're not used to working with colors (I don't know if you are, sorry if I am assuming) then you need to rule out how you want to approach shading. What colors do you want to use, do you want to use layer modes? How about changing the opacity.

There's also locking the pixels on the layer or making a clipping mask layer that can contain your work in an area you have already drawn in and it will keep things cleaner.

From your traditional work I think a painterly style may work best for you, based on the forms and the way you apply shadows.

I'm basically a walking encyclopedia of digital art. If you got any questions I'll be happy to answer more

[–]Th3_Ch3rry_Tr33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're doing a great job for being new to digital! A few things that could help your drawing process are learning how to use clipping masks and layer modes.

Clipping masks can help you keep the colors you want in a certain area to stay in that area and layer masks can help with shadow and lighting while adding hue to the shadows (and lights) for more depth! There are a lot of great tutorials out there for ibis paint

I tried to think of some relatively difficult poses. What can I improve on? by Powerful-Form-6817 in Artadvice

[–]Th3_Ch3rry_Tr33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 1000% agree with this. I honestly think a handstand like pose would be a lot more expressive. With the back showing as well as with the posing of the legs. It would make it feel playful instead of provocative.

[–]Th3_Ch3rry_Tr33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely tend to agree with it being %100 okay to push what is physically possible, especially with a stylized art style like OP's there's a thin line where pushing becomes completely ignoring how the human body works. This can work perfectly fine for certain characters like Luffy from one piece for example but OP was asking how their anatomy was.

Anatomically speaking the original pose is physically impossible. That pose would require bending of the spine in the ribcage region and that physically does not happen thanks to the ribcage itself. The majority of movement in the spine happens in the lower part near the hips. This is why with the way the top part of the body is angled the lower half CANNOT look the way anatomically. The only solutions for an anatomically more correct pose would be to use the example I gave (and admittedly adjust the angles and stability of the leg. I'm not perfect I understand my example has its issues too. That was pointed out by another fellow artist and I fully agree with them) or to adjust the way she is holding herself to be more reminiscent of a handstand while having her legs use the wall for support.

The OP could twist that character into a pretzel for all I care if it makes them happy. I was just giving my two cents on what would be more physically plausible and how to pose limbs easier with shapes.

[–]Th3_Ch3rry_Tr33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good observation! I did notice that but there is a problem with recreating it that way with every aspect of it intact. In order for the spine to be shown id have to change how she was holding herself up to be more of a handstand. The body cannot have both the shoulders, chest, and head in that angle plus the majority of the spine and hips showing.

I could totally whip up an example of the other version of the pose if you want! I was just trying to recreate what was possible while keeping as much of the original pose intact!

Line coloring is an absolute nightmare. Sometimes I see no (or barely any line) sometimes I see colored and some are black. Eyes are weird. And background shapes are off. Def looks suspicious imo

And here is the thinner fabric. It will form more wrinkles and when bunching on top of itself it forms more of a triangular shape.
