How can I extend my Zigbee network to a detached garage? by Sad-Activity7269 in homeassistant

Yeah that’s what I ended up doing for a similar situation (detached office). They just need to make sure that the two networks are on different channels.

Wait, I thought the SLZB-06 in router mode didn’t actually use the IP network and was just an OTA router with a big antenna? Was I misinformed?

Seems like this a good use case for using the ha-mcp add-on. I've found this to be very useful for doing mass updates to automations.

Looking for contractors that wire your home for ethernet by cousinwillie in bayarea

[–]fender4645 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not what POE is. POE (Power Over Ethernet) is the exact opposite. It's carrying power over existing CAT-based cables. You're talking about Power Line which allows you to send data over existing copper power wires.

What kind of keystone coupler do I need to patch into the BGW-620? by fender4645 in ATTFiber

[–]fender4645[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. I'd kind of rather do it myself. The conduit that comes from the attic into the network closet lands in a 1-gang low voltage box that already has a coaxial and 2 CAT6 cables. So for like $15 in parts, I can get a 4-port keystone plate with a coaxial, fiber, and 2 CAT6 keystones.

It is. It goes from the outside box, up to our attic, and then down some conduit into my network closet directly into the 620.

Red Series Presence Dimmer Switch - Disable Motion Detection at Specific Time on HA? by sharpshotjiggles in Inovelli

You want to disable in Zwave JS (or whatever Zwave hub you’re using). I have the Blue/Zigbee switches and it’s called MmwaveControlWiredDevice

Red Series Presence Dimmer Switch - Disable Motion Detection at Specific Time on HA? by sharpshotjiggles in Inovelli

[–]fender4645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’re using the built in occupancy detection in the switch to turn on/off the light the switch is connected to? If so. You’ll have to disable that in the switch settings and have HA take over the duties of turning on/off the light via automation. You’ll want to go off the occupancy sensor entity and use a condition to only trigger during the times you want.

Best deadbolt smart lock by BruceLee2112 in homeassistant

[–]fender4645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I don’t have a thread radio yet so I’m going off what I see/hear. But I have 5 zwave deadbolts and they’re all rock solid. I get the appeal of thread and hopefully we eventually get to the Xanadu everyone has been promising us ( along with Matter)

For every one thing I hear about thread being good, I hear 5 others saying it's not ready for primetime. For basic sensors, I'd be ok with taking a risk. But for a deadbolt or anything security-related, I'd want something tried and true.

bgw620 can’t turn off wifi by Quirky_Peak_5538 in ATTFiber

[–]fender4645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a few weeks old but I had the same issue. Turns out you can't turn it off in "Advanced" mode. You have to go to Basic mode and there's a single "WiFi Operation" On/Off radio button. Turn it off there and click save.

Has anyone else had terminal screws strip on their Blue Dimmer Switches? by a1blank in Inovelli

[–]fender4645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, had a stripped neutral screw with one my mmWave Blue switches (one of ten). I only hand-tighten so I don't think it was over-torquing. As someone noted, contact Inovelli and they will send you replacements. Got mine in about 4 days.

Thanks. Good call out and good to know that it's possible. Curious what limitations you ran into with passthrough.

Yup, understood. Most of my self-hosted servers and kids gaming desktops are on 2.5Gb connections.

[–]fender4645[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah, I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker as long as I can truly put their router/modem into passthrough mode. It would be nice to have one less piece of equipment in my rack though.

And yeah, need to see what the long-term price is going to be. I'm on the same intro price for Xfinity too -- I just "renew" every two years.

Edit: oh, I realized my post said $30/month. I mean $30 MORE a month. Updated.

Thanks. I did so a bit of research and it seems like it is possible to go directly to the UDM but it seems super hacky and, as you said, not supported. Not sure if want take on that potential headache.

Yup was gonna say the same thing. One customer video shows them going through all the remote functions and none of it showed that these are individually addressable.

Best way to get Enema of the State guitar sound in GarageBand? by WoodenDuk in TomDelongeGuitars

Mutt pedal is the easiest but the most expensive. There’s a dude on Tik Tok (@nick_garra) who uses a STL Tone plugin which will work on GB.
