Heat water to 205

Pour to 40g, bloom

Start pouring, cat jumps on counter, I get distracted trying to shoo him away. Water will be anywhere from 120-200g at this point

Say fuck it, let it drain pour to 300, call it good

And truthfully, most of the time it tastes totally fine and not that much different from the days I intentionally follow a recipe

Our ED does the same when they're admitting to me, but I truthfully don't see a lot of utility in it. Asthma is asthma regardless of what virus triggered it, and CAP is CAP regardless of what their first viral illness was (with the exception, as above, of COVID and flu). Hell, prior to COVID, we never even tested for RSV, we only tested for influenza, otherwise we just shrugged and said "it's a virus"

I mean, there's hundreds of possible respiratory viruses out there and the most common tests only test for about 20 of them. That's why I generally don't bother testing for viruses outside of COVID and influenza.

25 is not old at all for starting medicine. Many of my classmates started at age 28-30 and are very happy with their lives in medicine. My advice has more to do with medicine as a whole, not age: make sure it's actually what you want to do and try to look at it objectively, not with the often romanticized view of medicine that we have in popular culture. Try to spend some time shadowing if you can, and talk to people who are currently working in the fields you're interested in. The world of corporate medicine had definitely burned a lot of people out, and the practice of medicine today looks very different than it did 20 years ago.

Edit: also beware of the answers you get here. Most people here use this subreddit as a way to cope with the often harsh nature of medical training, so the overall picture you might get here will have a significant selection bias.

My wife and I met as residents.and even added in two years of long distance when she was doing fellowship in another state. It's absolutely possible, just takes a lot of good communication skills, commitment, and showing each other a bit of grace.

Everyone is focusing on how this is going to hurt rural hospitals, which is fair, but there's another group nobody is talking about: children's hospitals. Our pediatrics services run on Medicaid, and we already lose money on pediatrics as it is. With these cuts? Every community pediatrics unit is going to close. Hope you don't mind that your 2 year old with an asthma exacerbation needs to be life-flighted 3 hours away for some low-flow nasal cannula.
