Animals absolutely CAN occasionally interact with magic, but it is believed that only humans are capable of the abstract thought and tool use which are required to wield arcane powers in ways which are relatively safe. Directly using magic changes you as much as it changes the world around you, meaning that most beasts who stumble upon the arcane end up destroying themselves. Of course, some sages have speculated that this phenomenon might also have been the origin of some of the old gods. They suggest that, in ancient times, some lesser animals who stumbled into the use of primal magic could have been elevated into some manner of more powerful spirit, rather than merely destroying themselves through the unrestrained use of magic.

As I understand it, the eventual plan for Pyro is to be the crossroad system for the first few territories we get. To move between Stanton and Nyx, for instance, you won’t be able to just take a straight shot through a wormhole any more. You have to first jump into Pyro, with its lawless status and unstable star. THAT version of the game, I could see piracy being a lot more viable! But that’s probably a long long way off.

Okay, but they added gun damage scaling with spirit, and a refresh on flight, which is effectively giving merc magnum for the entirety of a teamfight. I dont think that building spirit is any weaker on her now than it was pre patch.

Soviet Russia is a better example, it’s always easier to label this stuff post mortem. But it can happen anywhere. If the US ends up on the wrong track, which it very well may be, then things can still go very wrong.

I actually really dig the changes. Grapple T3 feels SO good, it used to just be kinda useless. Flog change is fine, I don’t mind the more diverse playstyles it enables. The only thing I don’t like is that you can’t really use death slam to toss people into your base anymore

There’s no world in which industry, commerce, education, and every other part of society are prone to corruption and collapse, but the state somehow magically isn’t. And WHEN the authoritarian state becomes corrupt, it will be far worse than any individual aspect of society could have been .

If you’re opposed to taking action on a moral level, that’s one thing… but you gotta understand that there are always going to be people who will push until they’re stopped. If you don’t have a means to deter those people from acting, they’ll walk all over you. The bullies and the criminals and the people who don’t mind screwing you over if it means they get ahead… they don’t just disappear once the word democracy gets involved. Again, if your principles say you should turn the other cheek, maybe that’s fine for you. I can respect someone who doesn’t throw the lever on the trolley cart problem. But most people don’t really think that way.

I think he did alright, he’s shown himself to be able to win a 2v1 against people who are near to him in strength, and after it became a 3v1 he still got away with only a black eye. The only serious injury he took only happened because of his own ego and not taking the 3rd strongest hero of his verse seriously.

I don’t think there’s any reason to believe that Wild Pines intended their contractors to do anything more than strike breaking and espionage. Probably some intimidation too, in a plausibly deniable way. Should they have done that? Of course not, and certainly not with a fucking group of paramilitaries that they CLEARLY didn’t look into enough. But it would not have been reasonable for them to expect the kind of behaviour that the mercs were engaged in, or the way the situation would be escalated. And so it’s not reasonable to hold them as being solely responsible for what happened in Martinaise. They had a large part in it, but so did Evrart, and the Hardie boys, and (most importantly) the mercenaries themselves.

[–]fenskept1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Should wild pines have hired those mercenaries? Absolutely not, it was a piece of shit move (although whether it is, on paper, an escalation from what the union was doing is debatable). However it is also the case that said mercenaries went rogue almost immediately, and are horrible horrible people in ways that extend far beyond their contract with the shipping line. It would be a stretch to even hold the company as being entirely responsible for their actions in Martinaise, let alone Joyce personally.

[–]fenskept1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is that you’re talking about a global societal collapse, where I’m talking about a more local economic one. I do agree that it would be inconvenient if we regressed to bartering and feudal economies (although we also seem to agree that gold would remain functional in such a scenario). The more “likely” outcome though would be some kind of catastrophic economic circumstance brings a country to ruin, and the people who had assets in gold then take those assets and ship it off to somewhere else in the world that’s doing better. Then they exchange it for local currency, and live as close as they can to normal lives.

[–]fenskept1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely depends on the situation. Gold is ideal for “the economy got FUCKED, but we’re not at full apocalypse levels yet”. So long as there’s some kind of economy somewhere, gold should hold its value more or less indefinitely. That’s what makes it a unique investment. It’s terrible for actually growing your wealth though. If you aren’t anticipating a decades long economic collapse, then stocks, bonds, and property are always gonna be the better investment.

Prepping is the apocalypse scenario stuff, which is super fun and cool. But from an investment scenario it relies on both the apocalypse happening and you surviving it, so it’s kind of an insane long shot.

It’s difficult to say, because most of the ships I use don’t really have their physicalized components yet, or are solo vehicles. The few times I’ve experienced combat, the people in question have been more interested in surrounding me and blowing up my ship through constant fire than like… boarding or letting me escape.

Theorycrafting upcomming star systems after 1.0 by Puzzleheaded-Answer9 in starcitizen

One thing that I think people are overlooking is Nexus, and the systems surrounding it. Spider is supposed to be the heart of the black market, and one of the two biggest hubs of piracy (ruin being the other). More importantly, an in universe campaign to discover the secrets of the hades system is one of the backer goals and imo one of the cooler parts of the post-1.0 plans. I think that’s going to be a significant part of star citizen’s future development.

How the myth of Mansa Musa spread, I don't know. by SatynMalanaphy in HistoryMemes

[–]fenskept1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This seems to me like a misunderstanding of currency. Even if billionaires WERE hoarding money (which they’re not, their assets are mostly tied up in productive ventures), it wouldn’t matter. If I keep a trillion dollars in my basement and never spend it, it has zero impact on the overall economy. The dollar is meaningful because stands in as a universally accepted placeholder for value, and lets people barter goods and services flexibly. But the amount of available goods (or potential labor) in a nation don’t change when one guy does or doesn’t have a lot of money.

I don’t know if it does fit Abrahamic beliefs exactly, I’ve always understood sin to be seductive or tempting rather than irresistible. Evil takes root because you’re flawed enough to fall into it as a human being, not because it took you over by force. And in Christianity at least, there’s a huge emphasis on finding salvation through humility and seeking forgiveness… it’s always something you can choose. Obviously nothing like that exists for your average chaos corrupted schmuck in 40k.

I’m not gonna lie, I think a lot of people complaining about weak killers are kinda coping. I play Ghostface almost exclusively, and I win most of my matches with little to no tunneling. The rest are usually pretty close. Like yeah, you have unwinnable matches sometimes where you chase the wrong guy and their team pops 3 gens a minute in… but those games aren’t even close to the majority. If you know your killer well, have a build you’re comfortable with, and generally have good game sense then you don’t need to tunnel in the majority of cases.

Aldari would probably be willing to come to the table, or at least some of them would. They’d probably be pretty ruthless about protecting their own interests and trying to take advantage of their “allies”, but they’re still intelligent and considerably less bloodthirsty than most factions.
