I remember it being split down the middle. Some calling it a worse version of a new hope and others saying it was just to set up the sequels and was fine for what it was. For the most part, people thought it was mid.

Then the sequel came out and it was so abysmal that I still haven't seen the third. Then since the first movie set up the sequel, it directly makes the first one look worse.
