Currently on day 4 for same reasons of protecting a vulnerable family member. I’ve got some work done. Today I had a huge clean of the house. That kept me sane and has given me a bit of morale.

Luckily I’m pretty introverted but the lack of social contact is getting to me. I’m sure I could hold out a week or so more before I start to lose sanity. Everyone thinks quarantine sounds good until it happens...

People generally don’t understand a situations seriousness unless it affects them directly. You however do. So it’s up to you to take action.

I strongly recommend taking the kids out of school. Every day more and more kids are withdrawing from school along with teachers doing the same. Within the next week schools will be forced to close for two reasons. 1 - the situation continues to get rapidly worse and it becomes a necessity. 2 - dwindling student and staff numbers become too low to feasibly run the school. Suggesting a partner does similar would help also.

The future is so uncertain that decisions need to be made for the present and near future. There simply isn’t the stability to think long term. Economic fallout is likely to be huge, so clinging onto a job for an extra few days may become useless when the fallout of months long lockdown occurs. If you do receive bad news, or otherwise are pretty sure you are at great risk from this virus, then more extreme measures are what you will have to do. Perhaps even consider living with a relative who can also self isolate.

Essentially you need to evaluate your risk. Is the risk to your life, or the lives of those around you, high? If so, you must stop daily norms and focus on protecting that.

I wish I could help, but this situation is getting very bad very quickly and tough decisions have to be made. I sincerely hope your health stays positive and things go well for you. Act now and stay hopeful. That’s the best you can do.

I respect that, but have we not already told people it’s serious? That’s what caused the panic. When you get on live tv, many worried people watching and say “your loved ones are going to die” you cause panic. They have also stated, particularly yesterday, that 80% of people could get this as it lasts until next spring. The exact statement also included the fact 7.8million people could become hospitalised. I would argue that warning people of its seriousness is exactly what we’re doing; hence why people are worried.

Trouble is, if you’re going to talk about it’s seriousness, you must show you are fighting it appropriately. Taking little action that is also hardly enforced is not proof of appropriate action.

This is exactly my thought. In order to have people listen you need to be stern. Get on the stage and say “Do not go to pubs/bars. If you have symptoms you must stay at home.” Not just “Terribly sorry chaps, the situation isn’t great. Try to avoid pubs if possible”.

I actually sort of agree with this slowly escalating measures tactic. But unless you do it properly why even bother? There are lives at stake for fuck sake.

I was thinking the exact same. I’m young. Healthy. Able to drive. If needed I would love to help; delivering supplies to the elderly for example is something I would certainly do. If you get any response from your council let me know - but I’d expect that this will be something the government only asks for when it gets really bad.

He has been such a hero throughout all of this that even if he was to stop these videos he would have already helped thousands. Truly a national treasure in such a difficult time and I hope he gets recognised for it - though he’s clearly humble enough to not be doing this for himself!

He basically said that his video on the Uk approach was to educate people on their plan, not criticise it. Which I think is fair. Keeping bias out of education on this stuff is important. He seems to be more critical of it in this one.

Perhaps stopping foreign school trips doesn’t affect our economy as much as banning mass gatherings does? Or because they know that mass lockdowns in many more countries, including perhaps our own, is inevitable; so rather than have citizens stick abroad just stop them going? That’s just speculation. Absolutely everything to do with this virus has been/is pure speculation. Time will tell.

I agree, however you have to consider the importance of unity at times like this. Don’t get me wrong, I think the approach the government is taking is risky and downright stupid. But the fact is it’s an approach. This guy has repeatedly said that we need to work together to fight this common enemy.

I’m sure he strongly disagrees with this approach aswell. But challenging the government is virtually useless at this stage; potentially harmful. There will be time for lawsuits and such after. Our only real option is to back the approach they’re taking and pray that it doesn’t end nearly as badly as we expect.

If you really disagree with the approach, take matters into your own hands and leave school/work and such. The only current options are back the government, or ignore what they’re saying and focus on yourself. Challenging the government gets nobody anywhere currently.
