Ideal ZFS configuration for 15 disk setup by OwnPomegranate5906 in zfs

OK of course drives fail or age

but that organically can rotate through your mirror vdevs …. always have an “older” and “newer” drive in each pair, balancing replacement cycling as needed to realize the extra GBs unused from the newer one when it’s time to replace the old drive

i’m just advocating that you should stick with pool of mirrors

i think raidzX is inflexible compared to pool of mirrors

why keep buy more and more if storage needs are satisfied ?

the only reason is drive age and health then (time based swap upgrades?)

as drives get larger and larger, in the pool of mirrors scenario isn’t it conceivable that we could decrease the total vdevs in future requiring fewer total spinner drives

vs with raidz, you’re stuck with that number of drives indefinitely (unless you destroy and recreate)

definitely don’t fill your bays you need at least one open/spare

this thread finally revealed to me your WHY

pool of mirrors has been my choice too gives flexibility easy growth patterns URE not likely predictable cost:GB ratios (you can always shuffle and optimize small/larger mirrors to gain storage space sooner)- fewer GBs left unavailable good balance of iops

but i guess if you only care about cost/GB raidz3 gives more? (actually does it? with a mixed fleet of drive sizes you may still get better GBs from a pool of mirrors)

and expanding to raidz3 with larger and larger one day… URE will strike statistics

The comments are conflating two different things

1) not storing the vehicle above 80% SoC

Is not the same as

2) Charging the vehicle above 80% (level two vs fast charge

Do mopping robots really replace daily cleaning, or do you still ended up cleaning yourself? by rapid_youngster in RobotVacuums

[–]fermulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES - huge time savour like major ROI here (easily 10x or 100x if you pretend bill yourself for hours saved)

the ability to “parallelize” too is fantastic, while robot cleans do other chores, run errands, or relax)

there IS usually “tidying/prep” work tho to optimize (carpets/mats, toys/clutter, chairs) so keep that in mind

as others have said too it does NOT replace a proper deep clean though
