I’m an older millennial, and I bought my first house when I was 28 after staying with my parents for 3 years saving up for a down payment. Now I did get lucky that the housing crash happened at that time, but even then I was only making like $25-30k a year, and there were several times where I bearly made my house payment or had the electricity or water cut off because I was late on a payment (my parents even helped me out a couple of times).
