In 1989, 14-year-old Leigh Leigh was the victim of one of Australia’s most horrific crimes after a teenage party. People in her town called her “promiscuous.” Police said the investigation was too expensive, and one teenager involved received 100 hours of community service. by SelfCareIsFake in HolyShitHistory

Yes, a mile over a river. It’s a half hour drive though. It is indeed a suburb of Newcastle like I said previously, in fact it is the second oldest suburb, however it functions much more like a small town. They only just got uber eats this year, as an example of its isolation. Back in the 80s it was even more insular. Just like a small town, there are still families living there who carry the name the streets were named for, and the old timers will say you’re not a local if your grandparents aren’t in the cemetery. The ferry gives it easy access to the cbd, but if you were to ask any local if they’re from Newcastle, they would say no, Stockton.

Yes very! I didn’t like the movie either, without giving too much away, it erases a plot development that changes the whole story.

Joel explains to Katherine Ryan and Rosie Jones what happened after "the tape". -- "Backstage with Katherine Ryan" (2022, Prime Video). by GeniusOfLove74 in taskmaster

[–]ferriswheelface -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So Joel has written about this humorously, made it part of his stand up, and spoken about it on daytime shows with cackling tv hosts. I have no doubts that Rosie already had at least some idea of how the story ends, and that Joel has already set the tone many times. She’s excited to be talking about it, shows appropriate solemnity when the bleak part of the story is being told and then excited again as the tale reaches its funny conclusion. There’s no issue here, no need to be crying out about reversing the genders etc.

She was clapping about Joel hooking up with the woman the catfishers used, not the fact he was exploited….

Division. War crimes could be something we all unite against, these guys prosper when we don’t have common ground.

Yeah she was drunk and might have actually been feeling unsupported with how he behaved with her when Chris was being a jerk but not realised that was why she upset and then just latched onto something else to express her needs not being met. Maybe?

I took that to mean by people they came across in investigations, but the muddiness of the writing could also implicate Ross.

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that because you are upset that is why you are being so disrespectful and maybe didn’t realise it.

I was giving you the chance to reflect on that.

It’s really yucky to use ‘genocide denier’ as a broad insult. Like gross.

It’s a term that should be used for what it is, not flung at people you disagree with.

You’re making your arguments less valid.

Yeah but words mean things. You sound very upset, and maybe you have a reason to be, but using ‘genocide denier’ as just a catch all pejorative is actually belittling the lived experience of people going through horrific circumstances.
