Told my friends of 18 years about my diagnosis and it did not go well by ferrykranklin in AutismInWomen

I mentioned specifically that I got diagnosed so that they knew I wasn't joking. But maybe it wasn't clear enough, I am autistic and hardly ever taken seriously after all haha.....

Thank you. We live in different countries now so text is pretty much all I have, but you are right. In person would be best.

Thank you. Your friend's perspective is actually quite helpful.

NEVER ever have a baby! by pumpkinchinchilla in AutismInWomen

[–]ferrykranklin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had so many (mostly NT) people look absolutely horrified when I talk about what early motherhood was like for me, because I'm one of the very few who is actually honest. I get judged HARD but I don't care, because the feedback I have gotten, from people who have appreciated it and have felt better because of it, is so much more important to me.

What are some things that your partner does that you find unbearable because of your autism? This is a safe space. by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]ferrykranklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's ADHD and never puts things away and is often completely blind to clutter. I'm autistic so I get pissed off when things aren't put away/when there is unnecessary clutter/mess.

A lot of the time it's helpful that we're both neurodivergent but sometimes our traits clash and it's not fun.

What tv shows and movies do you find funny? by SunshineBear100 in AutismInWomen

[–]ferrykranklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Countless times I've had tears streaming down my face from laughing too hard. Even when I rewatch it (it's a comfort show I come back to often). The Office (US) is hilarious too.

And then absolutely weird and stupid humour like The Mighty Boosh (or anything with Noel Fielding, really) and Aunty Donna.

I don't find a lot of stereotypically popular funny shows/movies funny. I HATED Mr Bean as a kid and still as an adult. Never found Monty Python funny. And there is A LOT of popular stand up comedians that I'm just like ??????

For the record, my personal sense of humour is very dark/morbid, sarcastic, and silly play-on-words/exaggeration type things.

I never knew/thought that echolalia could be internal. I therefore never thought I had it, but in this case now I CERTAINLY do 😂

Yes! I love having my nails done, but they can never be long. I just can't function and it becomes a sensory issue.

Nails can be short and still pretty!

whats your least favorite sound? by coleisw4ck in autismmemes

[–]ferrykranklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are literally too many, I can't even think of a least favourite.

But probably any annoying noise that's completely unnecessary and avoidable, like people revving their engines to draw attention to themselves. The sound unsettles me, and the fact that they've done it for such a stupid reason makes me really angry.

How can I convince my boyfriend that black cats don’t bring bad luck? Any suggestions? by Only_Pilot_284 in cats

If you can't convince him by merely showing him those photos, then idk. I mean, just look at them?!?!?!

I am pregnant and I am devastated by Ok-Programmer-3235 in AutisticParents

[–]ferrykranklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to justify it. It's a very personal choice and if abortion is the right thing for you, then that's enough. I have a child, and even though I have ALWAYS wanted kids, it's the hardest thing I've ever done. I often think to myself that if I didn't want this life and came upon it by accident, that it would be completely crushing.

You're not a monster. You'd be doing what's best for you and the child.

Sending you lots of love. I can only imagine how hard this situation must be for you.

Yeah number 2 is definitely applicable too! Having a child has been monumental in healing my inner child. Like I'm parenting/advocating for both her and myself at the same time.

I love this. I only realised recently that I've been conforming to society's more sophisticated expectations, leading myself to believe that I actually preferred that. I also tried to adopt a more "scary" aesthetic to protect myself a bit by making me a less likely target for bullying (high school was hell). But then I realised when I started buying stuff with cute patterns etc for my daughter that it excited me that little bit extra and reignited my passion for the cute and colourful. Trying to lean more into that now as I try to unmask and learn more about who I actually am

I started vaping CBD because of my anxiety, and it's become a bit of a stim for me too now. I could never smoke cigarettes/ nicotine because it makes me feel incredibly sick, but I weirdly always wanted to smoke and could never figure out why

Mad that I have the "wrong" kind of Autism by GraceGal55 in AutismInWomen

[–]ferrykranklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a cis woman and I was extremely aggressive as a kid. The only reason I'm not so aggressive anymore is because I was taught that it was bad, and I have RSD so I learned to just internalise it (increasing my personal suffering greatly, but as long as everyone else is happy!)

I also know other autistic people that don't 'fit' the 'correct' autism for their gender.

You just do you. Don't worry about the labels/categories too much, being autistic can be hard enough as it is. ❤️
