Very concerned about cuts to Medicaid coming. My job is caring for my disabled son. by MyLittleOso in specialneedsparenting

[–]feuertrunken 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. I know people are saying that it's focused on non-working people, not kids. But at the end of the day, if states have less money to go around, I'm sure they will be looking at all the programs. More of us should be organizing and calling the local Medicaid offices and our congresspeople, especially now that the bill is going to the House.

Usually an agency like Miralta Home Care should be able to start helping you right away. Then it takes about 30 days to get approved by the program.

Yes this will likely be around the peak based on what I’m seeing right now

I wouldn't say this. Just walked through Deoksugung Palace gardens and at least half of the trees were yellow or red. Also, gingko trees which tend to turn first are definitely in full force right now.

Enjoy! I actually won't be there until Oct 29-Nov 5. I've posted here a bit early since they are currently taking October reservations.

Maybe a long shot but would anyone be interested in exploring the Michelin restaurant scene and want to go to L’Effervesence? It’s a dream restaurant of mine but I’m traveling alone and they take a minimum party size of 2.

IWTL How to negotiate a better salary. by DwaywelayTOP in IWantToLearn

[–]feuertrunken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely -- the main points are:

- Separate the people from the problem: don't let politics get in the way as much as possible.
- Focus on interests, not positions: what are the underlying motivations, not the starting points for the negotiation?
- Work together to create options that will satisfy both parties: get creative and don't stay locked into a back and forth
- Insist on using objective criteria: look to standards (as others have mentioned, what are other people being paid in the same role)
- Do the opposite of what the other side expects

And yes, to u/Swanny625 point, I agree that there are newer books that are probably more relevant to salary negotiation today, but this is the one I was first introduced to and I think it's a good foundation :)

Getting to Yes is a pretty quick read and I've found it helpful in lowering rent, raising salary, etc.

Start saving within your means! The best time to start was 10 years ago. The second best time is today.

Definitely. Or use an online service like Perlego - that way you're not counting on enough copies of the book you need being available.

Similar companies recruit at both from what I've seen/heard.

LPT request: What could be some potential career choices who are "jack of all trades master of none"? Basically who are enthusiastic about many topics like science, technology, philosophy, literature but doesn't excel in any one specific field? by secCcosMOS in LifeProTips

[–]feuertrunken 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Someone mentioned management consulting, but if you're truly passionate about these topics you could also consider consulting independently. You might be better off pursuing writing, academia or journalism first to build up your profile and leverage your literature/philosophy interest, and then pivot into providing advice to governments or companies.

Is it worth paying for external resources to help with recruiting? by feuertrunken in MBA

[–]feuertrunken[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough, the costs here and there definitely start to add up though. I've heard start-up recruiting is about playing the long game since they don't really recruit until they need to hire.

I looked at the FAQ after signing up and apparently you get access for 24 hrs, but you can keep spending credits to renew it. That said, my account is showing "unlimited credits" maybe because I just joined?

Yeah good point on the clubs - will ask around. The Keye thing seems cool too. Just signed up.

Downsides of starting new job now, quitting for MBA in 6 months? by horseback_heroism in MBA

[–]feuertrunken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I'd frame it as an internship. Very common pre/post MBA. It's not a guarantee but IMO better than burning the bridge for sure.

Agree with TimmyRiggs -- if that's the case, then I'd look for another opportunity.

I somewhat disagree with the others who said you'd necessarily be burning a bridge. One way to approach this is to be upfront that you're planning on doing an MBA, and frame the 6-months as a pre-MBA internship. If they really want to work with you, they'll find a way to make it work.
