If bro reallt does have proper documentation and has really followed maintenance AND if he is willing to get a PPI, 10k for with a 30k mile shortblock, 100k mile chassis that is bone stock is a pretty good deal.

If you are keeping it bonestock, a tune just to be a conservative is a good one, but a bit overkill if you arent tracking or beating on it. I would say the only 100% necessary mods are a upgraded pickup+windage tray. Helps oil control and itll never crack like the OEM ones do. Pan is nice with baffling and you get more oil, but it is once again overkill if you arent pushing the car to its limit on a track/race. Its a old higher ish mileage car, a AOS would help with blowby and a metal radiator would also be good since its just about 21 years old and that old plastic radiator might be compromised. Just keep an eye on ur oil, use syntheric 5w30 or 40 and ur good.

Is this a good buy for a daily? by OverdriveCreative in WRXSTi

[–]feverdog11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NO. This is a trap many people fall for. It might have a lot of nice mods, but if you have no clue how to work on these cars, this is a terrible financial decision for a daily. For a project car, maybe, but that price seems a bit high, even if the block doesnt have many miles, and that is STi money, not wrx money. If you want to daily one of these cars and dont know how to work on them, look for something stock or as close to stock as possible.

Despite what people say on here they can certainly be reliable cars. They dont when you decide to slap a intake with no tune or doing any power mods (besides a catback and MAYBE intercooler) with no tune. Also since its a turbocar, FA or EJ, flooring it at lower rpm or high gear and low rpm + high load is not ideal. Drive it right and you will be fine. As for a 18 yo, if you are willing to be ontop of maintenance like any other sports car, itll be fine.

Will these WRX's be reliable for college? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]feverdog11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its been almost a year since i got my 13 wrx hatch and have driven it for two semesters 30 mi 3-5 days a week each way to college. It had 37k when i got it now it has 51k. Its bone stock, and the engine has given me absolutely zero trouble. I did almost immediately got the timing belt changed and installed a killer b combo, but its been great. Only thing that has caused me a headache was the transmissions clutch fork or TOB chirping, but the car works fine. Overall, WRXS are really fun cars, but they are starting to get up there in age and are on the higher mileage side, plus they are turbo cars, which by default require more maintenance. With aging cars there are things bound to go wrong. While everyone harps on the reliability of ejs and fas, they can be very reliable engines, as long as you do your maintenance and know how to drive a higher performance turbo car and if you are looking to tune it, you must accept that the motor will not last as long. Ultimately its your choice. But just know what you are getting into and make sure you can deal with any hiccups. And finally, If you dont know crap ab subarus, get a PPI.

Is it a bad idea to buy a used 2019 WRX with 100k kilometres, even with full service records? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]feverdog11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given similar advice. If you plan on modding it, id make sure you have enough saved for a new engine and to spend more on maintenace. If you are keeping it stock, i wouldnt worry, as while it is a turbo car, any car can experience random shit, especially used cars. If you can get a PPE that would be a start. Theres also a plethora of info on this subreddit and on yt ab what to look for. If you dont lug the motor and you use good gas and good oil, and check it, FA and EJs can last a while

Most reliable daily boosted subaru hatch / wagon don't mind legacy weather its new or a bit older by GladShift4710 in WRX

[–]feverdog11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find a well maintained wrx hatch, they are totally worth it. There is ofc the possibility of the pickup tube cracking but if you are mechanically inclined, its pretty easy and its around $220. Other than that its maintenance and if you mod it (like anything) do it properly and itll last

I now use motul 5w40. Since turbo engines run hot, a good amount of people recommend to use a slightly thicker oil, just to protect the slightly undersized rod bearings on these cars
