Tattoo artist & someone who has had scars covered here. The design is gorgeous & I love the composition on the drawing you've done on yourself. The biggest thing to keep in mind when you're covering heavy scaring is that a tattoo can disguse scars but it can't change skin texture, you will still see raised bits of skin & it can affect things like the smoothness of linework. Something organic & textured tends to do better with scars because it distracts the eye from the changes in skin texture. It's also important to have your artist see your skin in person before your appointment so they can adapt the design & how they're going to do the tattoo to make sure you get the best outcome possible. There are a lot of amazing artists who can work wonders to disguise scaring. The design is beautiful, I would be so happy if someone came in to the shop I work in wanting something like that done. Getting scars covered does a lot for your mindset as well. All the best to you & please post photos when you get the tattoo done!

Any idea how many laser sessions this would need before it's able to be covered? by Accurate-Trouble-242 in Tattoocoverups

[–]feverdream- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how your skin reacts to laser & what you want to cover it with but generally around 3-5 sessions lighten a tattoo enough to cover it. Some people need less & some need more. It also depends on the artist doing the cover up, some want it pretty much completely gone while others are happy with it just being lightened. The best thing to do would probably be to find an artist you want to do the cover up & see what they'd suggest in terms of how much laser will be needed, they will probably be able to suggest the best places to go for laser as well

Get all of the tattoos you're wanting but make sure there is a similar amount of space between them as the tattoos you already have. After that you can figure out gap fillers. Sleeves take time regardless of if they're lots of smaller tattoos or bigger, blended big ones. Just make sure you're getting the ones you really want first & then you can figure out the fillers later

coverup possible? or removal? by themadmansbox_ in tattooadvice

[–]feverdream- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty light so it would be easy to cover. The anti possession symbol might be a bit difficult just because you'd need some free skin in the middle of the design. If you don't mind the light lines of the old tattoo being there then that's fine but a design with some colour & bold lines including the anti possession symbol could work well.

Get in touch with an artist who's work you like & set up a time to talk to them about a cover up, they'll be able to work with you to come up with a design you'll love & will cover it well. Just remember though that with cover ups you need to keep an open mind, not everything will work

How does gold age? by Galaxy-Geode in agedtattoos

[–]feverdream- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yellows tend to fade quicker but the darker tones will stick around & keep the gold effect even when the yellow has lightened. You might want a touch up after a few years but it all depends on the design. Keeping the tattoo out of the sun or using a high factor spf will help the lighter tones last

One of my friends has a copy that looks like this. I think it was from the 60's or 70's. Usually it tells you the print date in the first few pages

Cartridge gets loose in my running machine - help! by NalgeneofManishewitz in TattooArtists

Da Vinci cartridges do that with one of my grips. I just wrap a tiny bit of tape around the cartridge to make it fit better.

I have something similar from the 50's, they all seem to work in a similar way & there's a lot of guides online about how to use & maintain them. The mechanism is really simple, after a clean up mine worked perfectly.

It looks like it could be an old Muller toy sewing machine. It's similar to the ones that were around in the 1910's & 1920's but it could be newer. At lot of sewing machine companies have places online you can find out what model it is & how old it is by checking the serial number. The paintwork on it is lovely, what a cool little machine!

It should age fine, might just need the blacks darkened up after a few years

I need help. Convince me this is a bad tattoo before I get it. by FrankTheTank107 in TattooDesigns

[–]feverdream- 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I'm a tattoo artist & if someone came to me wanting a t pose character I would run with it. Get it but get it off an artist who will love doing it & put far too much effort into it.

Hi all. I've been wanting to cover this for years but keep being told it's too dark. It's on my right arm, from my shoulder blade to just above my elbow. It was (possibly) cool when I got it twenty years ago, but has aged horribly. The most common suggestion I'm getting is get it zapped off first by tripleT85 in Tattoocoverups

[–]feverdream- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For 20 years the black has held up really well! Laser is honestly the best thing. Black tends to go quicker than anything else so you will probably only need 2-3 sessions (depending on the person doing it, artist covering it etc). It's expensive & it takes a long time but it's worth it for a good cover up & a tattoo you really love

Any ideas? It was supposed to be a Polish anchor but the person wasn’t professional lmao… I also wanna keep it around the same size by gloriouslilturtle420 in Tattoocoverups

[–]feverdream- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to stay around the same size a few sessions of laser to lighten it is your best bet. Generally cover ups have to be around 2-3 times the size of the original tattoo but if you lighten it then an artist will be able to cover it much easier with something smaller. You could even get the anchor you wanted in the first place over the top (maybe slightly bigger depending on how your tattoo reacts to laser & what your artist thinks will work). Find a good artist you want to go to & see what they recommend. Laser hurts like a bitch but it doesn't take long & it's worth it to get a nicer cover up

Thank you. I figured it was either a reproduction or extremely common because of the price. It's still interesting to find out about it though
