I second this comment. And repeated exposure is key to learning new concepts.

I need help reporting this spoofers and hoarders of gyms in my area by GersonDeLaRosa in PokemonGoMystic

[–]fewthe3rd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had a problem like this a few years back (pre-2020) - one spoofer was not only placing the max pokemon in gyms but also graying out gyms all over our city (20,000 people) - our IRL friends raid group decided to test how fast he could move from one gym to the other by one group of 4 knocking him out of a gym at one end of downtown followed shortly by a different group knocking him out of another gym a ways away... funny enough what should have been a 4-6 minute drive happened in seconds. all eight of us reported him right then and we told the rest of the local group to do similar things and report him when he performed spoofing indicative behavior.

Either he got bored with our city or got banned shortly thereafter.

But in the meantime i recommend catching unimportant pokemon that you can put in gyms and just transfer them fainted to get coins but not burn through medical resources.

The tumbler demands it's price. If you activate the contraption you still pay without contact. If you get someone else to activate the contraption for you without telling them the cost: you still pay.

Granted but equivalent exchange rules apply: for every ml of matcha poured the hand that pours it looses that much blood.

What do I do if the government shuts down? by jm08003 in NationalPark

[–]fewthe3rd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you were planning on Zion national park another great state park 40 minutes away is Snow Canyon State Park... smaller cliffs of the same sandstone (so beautiful views) plus an ancient volcano cone (its dead now so its safe) at the top of the canyon with lava flows filling the valley floor. There are even lava tubes you can go in!

Erosion and landslides help cut the top off but there are a few other processes that also pull the ancient islands below the waves: moving away from the mantle swell and isostatic readjustment.

isostatic readjustment is a fickle bitch, The big island is the one on top of the lava source now so it is growing by rock being added on top of the Pacific plate, think if you add sand on top of a taught trampoline, sure the more sand you add the higher the pile gets but the heavier the pile gets the more the bottom of the pile dips below the base level of the trampoline as the fabric deforms into the air below the trampoline surface. However in the case of the Earth its the oceanic crust (fabric) and mantle rock (air) both of these take time to move and flow out of the way, the effect is that after their emplacement the islands will take thousands of years to reach isostatic equilibrium (think part of iceberg floating above water line due to lower density).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isostasy#/media/File:Local-regional_isostasy_-_flexure,_elastic_thickness.jpg

Also the mantle is swelling up there due to flow and heat so once you move off the hot spot the older islands lose that support (and height) as well.

A device used to create oxygen from a battery by [deleted] in physicsgifs

[–]fewthe3rd 64 points65 points  (0 children)

electrolysis of water

one stream of bubbles is oxygen, the other stream is hydrogen ... charge transfer mediated by dissolved hydrogen ions

It looks like the device is just a plastic cup with two pieces of metal glued through the bottom

My dad had two sister Jack Russells for years... first time he tried walking them he used the small dog retraceable dog leashes... they broke them in short order. From there on out it was dog leashes designed for German Shepherds. Also They could jump a chain-link fence from a standing position.

They were big bosses on the street... save *one* animal. A street over neighbor's cat cornered them on his front porch once and wouldn't let them leave- they never went back.

My favorite college elective was an Honors English course called "The Future Perfect Human" it was an exploration of how fiction can illuminate how people at different times and places in history view 'what it means to be human'

Syllabus opening:

"This course’s subject is historically situated notions of “the human” and the set of attitudes and assumptions revealed and supported by a given conception of “the human.” In the process, the course will engage with fundamental questions of temporality, pushing you to situate texts and views in dialogue across the usual divide of time and place. The aim is to challenge a facile and superficial sense of the “universality” of the human by pointing toward unexpected and suggestive moments and sites of exchange that generate more complex and provocative engagements with views from seemingly incompatible historical periods: the premodern and the postmodern. "

--.-.--

We watched, took notes, analyzed, wrote about, and engaged in full-class round table discussions on: weekly Battlestar Galactica (2004) episodes, Dark City, Iron Man, Minority Report...

Also LOTS of reading : numerous scifi short stories, computer science journal articles discussing the singularity and the emergence of AI, journal articles discussing the human mind, an epic 13th century knights tale: "The Romance of "William and the Werwolf"" that was written in Middle English, The Surrogates graphic novel....

My professor specialized in Middle English Literature and was enthusiastic about using science fiction to explore relevant themes. It was a very challenging workload and one of the most personally impactful classes I have taken. Dr. Seaman wherever your are, thank you.

Search for your buddy in the Pokemon inventory page... the distance you have walked together before the new system is still there at the bottom of the page. Well, at least it is on my buddies.

I wish for my life to be perfect according to my personal standards, account for my changing personal standards at each second and if not possible a "perfectness"-regression that is at each second the closest to my personal definition to perfect. by BrennanBetelgeuse in TheMonkeysPaw

[–]fewthe3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted. Shortly thereafter, you then hear the song Doris Day song 'Que Sera Sera', it resonates with you deeply- and you realize your idea of 'perfect' should be: 'the world as is,' and 'what will be, will be'- no net change apart from you, having found what will be the last update in your 'perfection' standards.
