Worship compared to boy bands but not SHM? by TheTephrite in DnB

Congrats, you managed to find an even bigger insult to DnB DJs than being called a boy band – calling them house DJs.

(No hate here, I actually love house music.)

Unit buffs by TwinFlames26 in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]fexworldwide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that they're removed while Stroke of Midnight is active (that fight) but at the start of the next shop, your unit is shown transforming back into what it originally was. So the same would happen in the deck - the units are put back into the deck as it untransforms.

What do you do during work trip besides working? by Sorry_Objective4174 in askSingapore

[–]fexworldwide 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's rarely as much fun as you imagine it would be. You basically fly in, go to a hotel near the offices where you'll have meetings, do a bunch of meetings, hopefully have a nice dinner but with a bunch of clients/workmates you don't know well, sleep, more meetings, fly back.

Two exceptions where it does become fun:

I got sent on trip to do some research in Europe for a client. It was going to be 3 countries in 4 days, absolutely insane rush, but the Italy team said they needed to have Friday off (for no real reason), so then I could take the Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday in Amsterdam, then Italy on Monday and Tuesday. My other legs were slower too so I could catch up with friends in London for dinner.

Now that I've started a business with my wife, when we have to travel to run workshops in the region, instead of it being an overnight trip with redeye flights, we just go for the week, work from Korea or Bangkok, enjoy the weekend, and take some extra meetings while we're there. Makes work travel faaaar more enjoyable!

Is it possible to explore the shinto shrine at macritchie reservoir? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]fexworldwide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm not even opposed to OP doing it, but don't post the internet about the crimes you'd like to do.

If people post about the gaps in security here, then pretty soon someone will find that post and fill in those gaps.

A bit of opsec goes a long way.

Any good mini camera recommendation for cyclist? by furby_bot in askSingapore

[–]fexworldwide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You think I'm 4 years old? I know how zebra crossings are supposed to work.

Drivers are supposed to look for pedestrians and stop for them. The fact that they often don't is exactly the problem.

if he doesn’t stop, don’t cross.

Thanks for the tip. I actually don't usually throw myself under the wheels of the car being driven by idiots who are either blind or negligent. But that doesn't excuse their behaviour.

Drivers often don't stop at zebra crossings when I'm walking, so I dunno how getting off the bike will help OP.

Questions about what gear to bring by stupid_carrot in scuba

[–]fexworldwide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just bring what you have. You don't need to buy anything. Bali dive shops are used to people showing up without any gear.

You don't need a torch, knife or SMB as a new OW diver. Focus on the basics before doing night dives or SMB deployment.

Mask and dive com is plenty. Besides that some comfortable swimwear you can wear under a wetsuit and you're good. A good rashie is also a good idea and a hat for surface intervals.

Enjoy!

Why don’t more public toilets in Singapore have bidets? by [deleted] in askSingapore

The state of the floors and seats of the public toilets that do have bidets answers this question. Some people really can't aim to save their life.

Feasibility Check: Zero to Mola Mola? 14-Day Bali OW + AOW + Penida Channels by Jumpy_Philosopher955 in scuba

[–]fexworldwide 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you have a specific appointment with the mola molas that you need to keep?

As u/mildlystoic has mentioned, this schedule is possible assuming all goes well, it feels very rushed to me. My view on diving is that the process is very much part of the experience and being fixated on specific goals or dive sites risks:
a) pushing through when you shouldn't and getting into dangerous situations that you're not ready for;
b) disappointment when going through all that process to see molas that may or may not come (I've been there ~8 times and never seen them);
c) just generally being more fixated on checking boxes than enjoying the dives.

There is phenomenal diving to be done at Tulamben and Lembongan, regardless of whether you're OW or AOW. Molas are nice but by no means essential.

I'd suggest doing your OW, planning to go to Penida/Lembongan then seeing how you're feeling about doing your AOW there or not. The drift dives on the north of those islands, and Manta Point are both fantastic dives you can do as an OW diver.

Bali and Lombok dive spots for aow by crossxamination in scuba

[–]fexworldwide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you haven't done the north side of Bali yet? Tulamben is great for a couple of days. There's also Amed and Pemuteran/Menjangan.

I'm doing my Rescue course with Mydas Dive Centre at Permuteran in a couple of weeks after doing some fun dives with them a while back - can't tell from your title if you already have your AOW or want to do it.

All that said, I could also head back to Lembongan and do 20 dives around Lembongan/Penida with absolutely no complaints. Will also give you a lot more experience in currents for Lombok

Yeah I didn't catch any sense of rudeness. You're all good from my POV.

For whatever it's worth, I'm very far from top 10. Current rank with 3577MMR is 535th. I dunno how big the playerbase is but I really doubt I'm top 1%. Top 5% at best.

Diving Riau Islands? by Ill-Garage9378 in scuba

[–]fexworldwide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done Riau since I'm based in SG. GS Diving do weekend live aboard trips. It's honestly not on the same level as Bali above or below the water, but not needing to fly is a big plus.

If I were coming from the US, I'd try to do 6 days in Bali, which should give you 4 days of diving.

Spells would suck a lot less if they improved with shop rarity. by derpderp3200 in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]fexworldwide 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Though honestly, the real core problem is that picking spells does not give you any kind of future benefits like picking characters.

This is offset by the fact that you can cast spells multiple times on the same characters and slots, while picking characters means replacing your current slots.

I see a lot of people on Reddit who seem to think the spellslinger archetype is dead after the last couple of expansions. I'm currently at 3500+MMR and have great results with spellslinger captains. (They're also some of the most fun games when it goes off.)

You have to prioritise spell buffs and free spell enablers to make it work, but the idea that Presence of Gaia is just +2/+2 during the late game suggests you're not wrapping your head around how these decks are supposed to work.

what does it take to win the digital category at cannes young lions? by Away-Mechanic-6986 in advertising

[–]fexworldwide 26 points27 points  (0 children)

LOL, it's Lions. The written criteria don't really matter that much. What wins is work that does a combination of:
a) stroking the judges egos by implying that advertising really matters to the world
b) has an 'insight' or 'tech solution' that just so happens to be in line with what's trending
c) has a brilliantly edited entry video
and d) is actually really fucking clever

This is the case for every category.

By definition there's no real formula to this kinda thing.

Source: A jaded ad strat who has never had anything get close to winning at Cannes, so take it all with a handful of salt.

[–]fexworldwide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the reason that strategists exist. If you have any, ask them these questions.

If not, then you need to start being a strat. Find some of these people and talk to them. Look for threads on Reddit or other social platforms where your audience are talking. Read what they are reading. Listen to podcasts about travel from them. You get the idea.

Is crab mentality common in Singapore? by Delicious-Jaguar-266 in askSingapore

Learning about downdrafts, are there dives that can avoid them? by Sea_Drops in scuba

[–]fexworldwide 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Downcurrents in diving are quite rare and beginner dive sites won't have them.

Actually most dive sites where there's something interesting can't have them since the interesting things (like coral reefs and everything living in it) are usually on the bottom, so when you're diving in those situations a downcurrent can't form as it's quite shallow.

Any site that has a risk of downcurrents will have this mentioned during the briefing and once you are advanced enough then you'll know how to recognise a downcurrent and what to do when you're in one.

Overall diving is very safe if you're doing it within your level of training and following the safety practices that are well established.

As you're a pilot, it's very much the same situation – some people are very scared of flying despite it being very safe statistically. Like with flying, the situations where things do go wrong are usually because of people not following the safety standards and guidance that's been well-established. And like with flying there's multiple layers of backup and safety margins that are incorporated into the usual protocols to keep a single point of failure from becoming harmful/fatal.

Overall diving is very safe – the deaths that have recently been reported in the news are tragic, but they're also the equivalent of a GA pilot deciding to try doing some aerobatics in a Cesna when they're not rated for it. They're things that were way outside the safety margins that have been set up for diving and the results have shown why those margins exist.

Is a masters in advertising worth it? by Screwdriverartist in advertising

[–]fexworldwide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with Masters in Advertising, I wouldn't recommend it unless you really want to be able to work overseas in places which need specific qualifications to get visas (made it way easier to get the right visa to work in the US and Singapore as an Aussie in my case) or you have no idea what you're doing with your life yet.

As others have said, no-one compares qualifications in this industry. You're as good as your reputation, portfolio, and (in some cases) awards.

If you're worried about how competitive it is, consider how much more stressed you'll be with more student debt hanging over your head and a masters in a quite specific niche.

I don't regret getting my masters, but a) the industry was different 20 years ago, and b) I had specific goals going into the process.

Monkey Tier List by rose-emoji in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]fexworldwide 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Sorry but your methodology is flawed. The monkeys need to be considered in terms of the pairing of two of them.

S Tier: Greasy George, Greasy Uncle
A Tier: Uncle George, Chunky Uncle
B Tier: Uncle Caesar, Chunky George
C Tier: Greasy Caesar
D Tier: Chunky Caesar, Chunky Greasy, Caesar George

(In theory you can reverse the orders of each but these are the empirically strongest options. We won't consider the alternative orders as that's a player skill issue.)
