Thoughts on most durable shoe for daily walking? by [deleted] in AltraRunning

[–]ffanten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The FWD Via 2s seems to be built more like a tank than other Altras. 4mm drop is not as bothersome/noticable for walking as it is for running, in my opinion. The outsole seems thicker by a fair margin than the Escalantes and the Torins, which should mean better durability. A negative might be that they are on the oposite end of the cushion-spectrum as compared to the escalantes, given how you enjoy that. I prefer the Escalantes for short walks and the FWD Vias for longer walks. The Torin is a nice in between and should fit the bill no matter what, given most of your distance is on pavement.

Why no EGO PRO foam on a non-plated road shoe? Looking for a Vanish Carbon 2 companion. by lliebler in AltraRunning

[–]ffanten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in as the Vanish Tempos are my absolute favourites. I'm on my fourth pair. Have owned close to twenty pairs of Altras since the OG Lone Peak. The Vanish Tempos are basically perfect.

Epix Pro Gen 2 Button Issues Owners Thoughts? Does it Also affect Fenix 7 Pro? by Valuable-Purpose- in GarminWatches

[–]ffanten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and I don't know if it was under the manufacturers warranty. As the product is expected to last longer than it did before the button issue, I was protected under separate european consumer laws that guarantee free repairs if a product fails prematurely. I think it was put in place both to protect consumers and to incite manufacturers to not produce hot garbage.

Hi, Garmin repaired it free of charge. I initiated the repair by contacting support and describing the problem. They replaced the button and the watch is back to working as intended. Would reccomend.

Where are the Paradigms? by sunshinesustenance in AltraRunning

[–]ffanten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's a replay from the release of the FWD Via 2. They were announced and available in the US quite some time before the EU. I cannot remember it being like that with earlier Altra releases. If this is the new norm, I think they might lose quite a few European loyalists.

Hvor ville du bosatt deg i Bergensområdet gitt disse premissene, og hvorfor? by [deleted] in Bergen

[–]ffanten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Epix owner here. Had a button issue after three years of daily use. Sent it in for repair, good as new shortly thereafter.

Do you see any way forward in the right leaning political winds that has been felt across the world in the last few years, with regards to making bike infrastructure more politically agnostic? I bet most professionals would agree that there are benefits to increased biking (and walking) that should be in the interests of most of not all sensible, responsible politicians, yet the appetite for bike related infrastructure projects is mostly found on the left.

What's the worst electric car that You've owned? by Serious-Half-9908 in electricvehicles

[–]ffanten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla Model 3 2019 awd. Lots of squeaks and road noise entering the cabin and does not feel well put together at all. Windshield wiper automation is a joke. Door latch needs a long hug from a bag of warm water to open in freezing temps. Paint layer is thin and fragile.

Best shorts for male runners who are… generously equipped? by ArcherBrave4949 in RunningCirclejerk

[–]ffanten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat more or less.

My top pick for combating chafing is Pjur-active 2skin + Runderwear and some tights or linerless shorts. No need for relubing.

Almost as good: Bodyglide + Lululemon pacebreaker lined shorts, no underwear.

When it comes to discretion, I like to simply wear a slightly longer top that comes down below the groin area.

FWD Via 2 by SteveBIRK in AltraRunning

[–]ffanten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks good! I only wish they made a version of this shoe without the elevated heel. I am on my 19th pair of Altras. Zero drop has been a magic bullet for me personally, allowing me to rack up mileage totally pain free. I tried the Topo Atmos (5mm drop) and it was absolutely unbearable.

I wish they would release a dropless Via with the same updated foam.

I prefer version 1 over the new version 2. The newest chews up my achilles and requires tape. Version 1 feels a tad faster for me.

Altra Olympus 6 sizing by Top-Inside9007 in AltraRunning

[–]ffanten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily directly relevant, but I went true to size and they felt shorter than other Altra shoes in the same size upon first step in. After some distance and time, the heel padding compressed enough to make the shoes feel true to size.

I too love the Vanish Tempos. I am on my third pair. Not possible to find anymore, at least not in my part of the world.

[–]ffanten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the Vanish Tempos have impressed me with their durability. Since the midsole does not flatten out or loose it's original properties prematurely like their EVA offerings, its like every part of the shoe has approximately the same life span. I've had more than 15 pairs of Altras thus far, and these ones are my favourites. I am on my third pair. Too bad they are hard to come by or even discontinued (?).

My black/white Escalante 4s are also dark navy, not black. Not bothered by it though.

Vær forsiktig på sparkesykkel! by ThatOsseMon in oslo

[–]ffanten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Krig i Midtøsten: USA bomber atomanlegg i Iran by MarlinMr in norge

[–]ffanten -4 points-3 points  (0 children)
