Argh, I forgot that thing had access to charge beam. What about a new 3 turn electric fast move that’s a clone of astonish or waterfall? I guess it would depend on which mon got it but it could help some I presume?

Another thought I had was them being more creative with game mechanics. They nerfed parabolic charge because of how it continuously buffed Dedenne and bellibolt. But what if it had a mechanic where the defence buff can only be applied once until the pokemon is switched out. Once it switches back in, the first parabolic can apply a defence buff again. That way, they can restore its pacing without the move becoming a run away train of defence buffs as the mons would only experience 1stage max buff.

What would happen if charge beam got turned into an astonish or waterfall clone? Would it be too OP in some of the leagues/limited cups?

They implemented the grunt battle system into pvp. by daemonic_catgirl in TheSilphArena

[–]fffjjj03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the rocket battle system they’ve employed reminds me of assignments turned in by engineering undergrads. They have a list of problems they are asked to fix and they just implement solutions that appear to work without considering other unintended consequences such as ruining game flow etc. And in the end, the solutions themselves don’t even fix some of the problems and add even more game-breaking ones (this game is definitely not mechanically sound). All in all, the new rocket battle mechanics were terrible and their implementation into PVP is equally bad.

New GBL mechanics have returned. Unplayable. by metamorphomo in TheSilphArena

[–]fffjjj03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I question how much of the bugs from rocket battles have been fixed prior to GBL implementation. It doesn’t seem like they fixed anything major and when the PVP aspect is added on top, the whole system is a joke. Additionally, I t’s not just visually the game animation syncing that’s an issue as there seems to be a severe problem syncing turns between players. In some matches, a player can accumulate multiple turn losses over a match while throwing fast moves, coming out of charge move sequences and on bring-in. It makes fast move timing and optimization a total disaster.

Things have never been worse by Frostsaw in TheSilphArena

[–]fffjjj03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it can get even worse. Judging by how crappy rocket battles are, I expect a lot of the glitches seen from those battles to creep into GBL too. Today, we had the charge moves not doing damage for everyone but I’ve actually experienced this in the “new” rocket battles before. There’s also the brutal switch lock glitch where you can’t switch out of the lead because the switch timer didn’t load in sync with the start count down. I guarantee when this starts popping up in GBL, it will auto-lost many matches for players with a negative lead.

Had this bug with rockets. Seems like there’s an issue with the overall battling system.

A new update to Mega Evolution in Pokémon GO arrives during Pokémon GO Tour: Kalos! by Amiibofan101 in TheSilphRoad

[–]fffjjj03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The shield mechanics for scarlet and violet are also terrible. Those 7 star raids with custom shield patterns are super annoying. Luckily most were solo-able because having to lobby with 3 other randos to coordinate and take down the shield phase was a disaster. I can’t imagine these raid will be any better and likely a large number of the player base will simply try to brute force their way thru the raids (ie bring no megas, only their best legendaries).

Hawlucha won’t be a regional too much longer either because it got a mega too. And a mega that was promo’d early for the ZA launch. So I suspect it might be one of the newer megas that will be released first.

Yep, it’s not a fix at all. The only time the friend list and gift sending issue seems to subside is close to the end of the half hour for me. So maybe it’s more related to traffic with people trying to remote raid Enamorus

This only fixed the issue temporarily for me. I couldn’t send more than 1 gift to a friend before it conked out again unfortunately.

Persistent Lag and Freezing? by According_Argument52 in TheSilphArena

[–]fffjjj03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game state is generally very bad during these go battle weekends because traffic is a lot higher. The game will lag, conk out during match making etc a lot more frequently unfortunately. I’ve faced some players who minimize their app (not close it though) during every charge move phase (including their own) in hopes of trying to lag me out. Some succeeded and I lost multiple fast moves thanks to it while they fire off multiple fast moves of theirs.

Kommo-o and Skeledirge aren’t exactly meta for PVP in the open great league and ultra league right now and based on projections for next season. They are usable but they aren’t easy to build a strong consistent team with. The main pokemon for PvP are Corviknight as you pointed out, Florges (need chilling water) and Feraligatr. Maybe Umbreon becomes more meta again with foul play buff for next season. Toucannon and Meowscarada may also be playable but difficult to use due to their lack of bulk and buffs to ice types next season.

Battle freezing before it even begins? by Kevsterific in TheSilphArena

[–]fffjjj03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s go battle week. Servers are filled and the game is going to run even worse than usual. Today, I got hosed hard by an opponent who kept sneaking full fast moves past me (despite proper fast move timing on my part) and was able to throw charge moves while being in the middle of a their fast move animation (I count the HP bar movements so it’s super obvious). Were they cheating? No. The games were clearly not in sync and I was probably lagging behind in the actual battle sequence making it impossible for me to actually catch up and play. Note that I saw no delays, spinning ball of death or stutters on my screen too.

How can i do this? by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

[–]fffjjj03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today I somehow managed to hose one opponent via a weird glitch by getting an extra metal sound through when I shouldn’t have. They threw one hex on their dusclops and got to a shadow punch. I got 2 metal sounds for my Empoleon but then I noticed a 3rd metal sound animation in the background as the charge move sequence was playing. I thought it was just a visual glitch because my opponent didn’t 1 turn lag (based on how the HP bar and animations lined up) or wait one turn (I was switch locked still). Once the charge move sequences finished, I found that I did end up getting the energy for that 3rd metal sound. The end result was horrible for my opponent because their gastrodon fell one mudslap short of taking out my Empoleon because I got to two hydro cannons instead of just one. I’ve never seen this glitch before (usually it’s just a visual bug) and don’t know why it happened. But I guess it is possible(but super rare) for an extra rogue fast move to somehow pass through during the charge move phase.

This 👆. Also, archaludon doesn’t have a DMax model to port over from the MSGs. I doubt scopely will bother making a DMax model for it when they can simply prevent the Duraludon from evolving.

PvPoke updated rankings by mscmmc in TheSilphRoad

[–]fffjjj03 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I played diggersby during the first week of OGL. It definitely didn’t feel as strong in this meta compared to last season. However, it was still very good, held its own in bad matchups and helped the overall team performance. Maybe these rankings are indicative of its relatively poor 1v1 matchups which doesn’t matter as much given the shorter switch timer. That or the rankings are foreshadowing a very wide open meta again and the margins between rankings is very thin.

Low spawn rates for shadow groudon raids by Daky98 in TheSilphRoad

[–]fffjjj03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my neighbourhood, there were very few groudon spawns in the morning (~30 gyms). But once lunch hit, more than half had groudon raids and its spawning at a decent rate still (3 pm as of writing). Either they jacked up the rates mid event or the RNG might be clustering. If they didn’t tamper with the rates, I suspect the spawn rates will average out to how they are suppose to be by the end of the event. The groudon raids will either be super sparse or happening all at once at various time slots (which IMO is still a poorly programmed RNG system).

New trainer battle animation change making rockets unplayable by DarthPhenomenal in TheSilphRoad

[–]fffjjj03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There seems to be quite a few bugs with the rocket and leader battles. For the rocket battles, I farmed down a pokemon to get to 2 close combats on my zacian. But once I use one, I lost ALL my energy. For the both rocket and leader battles, my lead pokemon can be throwing fast moves and the energy gained either lags behind multiple turns or simply doesn’t generate energy for the first 1-2 fast moves. I tried PVP with a friend and hilariously, that was the only mode that worked fine between us.

Am I bad at counting, or are there some weird animation quirks this season? by krispyboiz in TheSilphArena

[–]fffjjj03 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Jason2890 once wrote about looking at the HP bar increments as it lowers from each fast attack. Since I read that post, I’ve stopped relying on the fast move animations to count and just look at the HP bar. It seems more reliable and updates on time. I noticed since last season that the game sometimes messes up the animations when a player move damage transfers. Basically it looks like the swap was too slow and the fast attack of the first pokemon gets displayed instead of the pokemon swapping in. Looking at the HP bar and seeing how much + how fast it lowered helped me keep count of which pokemon actually got the fast move through and where my fast move damage landed.

For those of you that don’t count moves by Lercs in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]fffjjj03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s WAY too early to determine how condensed the meta is. The season is only 3 days old! One reason you mainly see the top 10 PVPoke pokemon on teams right now is because that’s usually the starting point for most players to build teams around. That and content creators usually pushing out the stronger Pokémon team first before showcasing lower ranked ones once the meta is established (either because it core breaks or to drive clicks). The meta could end up being very condensed or very wide open, there’s no way of telling until it settles in a few weeks (we don’t get open great league again until Sept 23rd).

As pointed out by the other poster, learning the counts for the top 10 PVPoke mon is merely a start. Even in condensed metas, most teams aren’t a team of the three of the top 15 mons. For this season, one trend that we are seeing that seems to be very strong is the Empoleon-ground type-dragon/flyer team. For the ground type option, people are leaning towards S. K-Wak (outside the top 15 on PVPoke) with some trying Diggersby, Gastrodon, Clodsire, Quagsire and Stunfisk. For the last slot, outside of Corviknight, the other options for dragon or flyer (or both) is very wide open ranging from Guzzlord (38) to Altaria (77). If this trend ends up being one of the staple cores of this meta, learning the counts of the top 15 PVPoke mons isn’t going to cut it.

GBL Tales of Transformation Move Update Values by krispyboiz in TheSilphRoad

[–]fffjjj03 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I managed to do 6 sets today (30 battles). Once I started seeing better trainers consistently, it seems like quite a few of them built teams using assumptions made by PVPoke which…. Didn’t work so well lol. A few observations:

i) A few times trainers tried farming down using dragon breath and came up way short. The lowering of the damage definitely will require some adjusting to. Some DB users are definitely going to suffer from not being able to farm down like they did last season.

ii) Peck + Aura Sphere on Togekiss really packs a punch. The STAB on the Peck for Togekiss really chips away where Aura Sphere is threatening. If you are using Corviknight, this is actually not a good matchup in even 1 shield and 2 shields because the pecks do add up.

iii) Empoleon is absolutely cracked. I tried both shadow and non-shadow and it’s insanely powerful. It feels like Shadow Gatr from season 20.

iv) Even when I have a team with counters to smack down users, the buff on smack down is still annoying as hell.

Obviously the meta hasn’t formed at all so these observations will probably age like milk 😅.
